Where oh where is the Dig spell?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

booger=boy took on an army and used the Dig spell. It seemed dorky that he had it. What the h&8!@ am I going to do with a spell that moves earth?

Dig!

It left the Dnd spell canon at some point, not sure where, and has been missed ever since. My guess is some game designer in 2nd edition cut it because he never ever used it and understood the fun that Dig could inflict. Maybe the Pathfindnders who seem the wisest dnders I've seen in awhile will let it come home?

It's called Expeditious Excavation and it's in the APG.

err weird, but thanks! I'm not going to ask that it be renamed.

Guys if you have the chance to take Dig(excrement excavation) do it. When your in the wilderness and have a 100 orcs coming your way just dig a pit under their feet and run for it!

I recall Dig doing a lot more than a 5 foot cube but mabe I am thinking of move earth or a lyre of building.

You're right. Reviewing my older books, Dig was a 4th level spell. It moved a lot more earth, and lasted rounds per level.

I can't find my ol players handbook but yeah I remember putting tall buggers in the pit!

It sounds like its been nerfed, which is sad but that's what happens these days.

Maybe the Excavation spellie isn't really the ol Dig but something that does something similar? Hence the different name.

The spell seemed dumb in the day until you started digging. Then years latter you have fond memories.

Create Pit? Acid Pit? Spiked Pit? Hungry Pit?

Actually, the answer lies within your question. The spell is now called Move Earth. It is now a 6th level wizard/druid spell.

I don't think that is Dig, the casting takes 10 minutes!

Dig was a quickie and a good one for the outside adventurer. I never got a chance to try it in the underdark. I guess it would depend upon the composition down there.

ha ha ha! A Pit was something I made with Dig. If we it needed to be filled with Acid, have spikes in it or maybe add a big stomach to it than that's something that needed to be done separately.

Morbidly curious whether that was intentional.

Yeah, not the same spell exactly; 10 min casting time and 6th level... But that's where the old Dig spell got (officially) folded into after 2E AD&D, as far as I know.

I never know why these things get changed. Dig wasn't exactly this overwhelming powerful spell. Usually when I've played "dnd" its been a fight for survival. I've actually seen my characters die! Part of a theory I've been kicking around is that it isn't "Imbalances" that make a game bad its "Bad Gamemastering".

Move Earth was in 1E/2E AD&D. The Dig spell just disappeared without a trace.

You think that's strange that Dig just went bomph! I've heard Fly in the "Other Game" has been turned into an Epic level spell! I don't know what's happened/ing to our gaming universe.
