I would say not, myself. I would say that in order to don it normally, you would have to take it off first.
There is a reason behind this.
According to the section about donning armor, some armor can *only* be donned hastily by yourself. Half-plate or full-plate. They require someone to help you don your armor in order to prevent the penalties. By allowing a transition from don hastily to just don, you're effectively removing that specific penalty entirely.

I wonder what other awesome names are buried in the rules...And anyway, check with your GM. I agree with Magicdealer, though if it were my own game, I'd allow the re-adjusting with armor that doesn't need help for donning.
