Wondering if i'm missing anything here but isn't the Qinggong monk making the standard completely obsolete?
A qinggong monk CAN select a ki power (see below) for which she qualifies in place of the following monk class abilities: ...
.. So if if i chose to never select a Ki Power I get the equivalent of a standard Monk... meaning that the Qinggong is just a superset of the standard Monk. Am I right?
I'm not complaining here. I love the Qingong and I find it gives the Monk more options without making him more powerful. I'm just wondering if i'm missing anything because Paizo had said in the past they didn't want to create prestige class that would simply be better than standard classes. This archetype is simply better than the normal Monk.

i like it because its not actually overpowering.
i look at it as a monk "patch"
besides, now everyone who wants a fire/earth/air/water bender or a DBZ character can quit whining and has some sort of official option of doing it
Monk of the Four Winds in the APG had a pretty heavy DBZ feel to it, especially the Aspect of the Ki-Rin.
"Aspect of the Ki-Rin: The monk's skin takes on a golden luminescence, and a silvery mane that cannot be bound grows atop his head. He gains a fly speed equal to his land speed, but he must end each turn on the ground. If the monk does not land by the end of his turn, he falls from whatever height he has attained. The ki-rin is honorable, honest, and self-sacrificing—a monk must be lawful good to take on the aspect of the ki-rin."
I haven't seen the Qingong monk yet, so maybe it's even more so.

At a glance, it looks like the Qinggong monk archetype doesn't stack with any archetypes, which would limit it some. That said, I love the feel of it. I'm not a big monk player, so I'll probably never use it, but the abilities are all fun and flavorful, and give more options outside of "I punch stuff with mah fists."

Hadn't thought about archetype stacking. Good thinking in bringing that up. However, to me this archetype seems to stack with ALL archetypes. The magic word is CAN.

Since i can decide to keep all the base Monk abilities, wouldn't this allow me to stack with any archetype?
..and same here. I do love the feal of this archetype. It's by far my favorite Monk archetype.

It makes me actually want to play a Monk. No longer needing any of the (rather underwhelming) class abilities, and substituting them with something more interesting and/or effective will allow me to make a viable character.
I liked abundant step, btw. It's a caster-killer, if performed correctly. But now I can keep it and still be effective at whatever it is I choose.

It's looking like it could really help. Still need to sit down and really look over all of the ki costs on those abilities though, because some of them seemed awful high for what they were.
It's a hell of a lot more versatile out of the box. I'm hoping it's easier to build than the standard monk too.

It works better if you take some of the new vows or use the one archetype that gives more ki points

you can swap put the ones you don't want and keep the ones you do. the reason there are ki versions of regular powers is you can always get them with a later swap.
really I think this is what the monk should have been from day 1. my weapon adept used the healing power all of once the whole time inlayed her swiping it out to shoot fire from my fingers? yes please.
