I've had hardly any experience at all with PBP (and none on Paizo's boards), but my urge to game and limited pool of local gamers with schedules complimentary to my own has finally convinced me to try my hand at it. I'm looking for a group of 4, maybe 5, players who can reliably post on a regular basis, and I'll be accepting character submissions for the next several days or until I've pulled a solid group together.
I'll be running Rise of the Runelords with Pathfinder rules here on the Paizo forums. Characters will be point built at level 1 with 15 points, average wealth by class, and 2 traits. Anything from the Core Rulebook or Advanced Player's Guide is fine, but I'd like to avoid the playtest classes and non-core races for the time being.
Please submit characters here with a brief description of their appearance and personalities along with a backstory. Please also include in the character's background a reason for being in the town of Sandpoint during the Swallowtail Festival, whether they are a local or a visitor.
Go ahead and post any questions or comments in this thread and I'll link to the PBP thread once the group is decided on.
Alyoma
I'll ask to join this game, if I might.
I'm fairly new also, but think that I can manage.
Introducing Alyoma, Varisian Sorceress and dancer.
She is in Sandpoint with her family (part of a wandering band of wagon traveling Varisians) for the Festival and to meet with family relations. She is just begining to come into her bloodline power, and (as a good Densa worshiper) feels that the goddess has blessed her with these sorcerous abilities.
More background coming later, if she meets with your approval.
Ringtail
Alyoma looks pretty good so far - picked one of my favorite bloodlines too. Feel free to start expanding on a background at your leisure.
Edit: Looking over her character sheet a bit more closely I think her modifier is off for sense motive, unless I'm missing something. Also her club should be at 1 lower to hit, since it isn't a light weapon for weapon finesse, however your melee touch to hit should be 1 greater.
Ansruath
Ansruath Gysselylth
Half-Elf
Ancestral Arms: Elven Curved Blade Variant
Fighter
Two Handed Variant
Traits: Poverty Stricken
Resilient
Ansruath Gysselylth is a half-elf that is about 6 foot tall with long black hair and emerald green eyes. He is well muscled young man. He has a solemn face that takes everything in before he moves. His elven features make his face look hawk like but his face is not as sharp as elves themselves. Ansruath rarely speaks he prefers to listen to what others have to say before saying his mind. He also does not make friends very easily but when he does he is loyal to the end.
Ansruath lived with mother in poverty for the first six years of his life. After he turned six murderers killed his mother for debt. They than turned to Ansruath to sell him to slavery but Ansruath ran from them. Being so small they had a hard time finding him. Eventually Ansruath made it to some families friends who than took Ansruath to his father's people. The elves hearing the story of what happened Ansruath took the boy in. They taught him the way of the Elven curved blade so he could protect himself. After years of training Ansruath left to find some peace from the nightmares of having seen his mother killed before him. Ansruath had heard of a festival that released butterfly’s for a goddess so hoping to find peace in this he journeyed to the town where the festival was to be held.

I'd like to join.
Like the others, I'm new to PbP, but eager to try it out. I've a lot of experience with the game, and I've played a few Pathfinder campaigns, but I have yet to try an adventure path, organized play or even a game set in Golarion. I suppose that makes me a newbee x3.
I've got a copy of the Runelords player's guide so, I'll give it a quick read and come back with a character concept as soon as I get a handle on the setting.

I've had a witch I wanted to play for like forever. Here's the rundown.
He mentored beneath a shoanti druid that had been adopted into the clan, as well as beneath the tribe's seer (a sorcerer) and he began to adopt his own style of spellcasting that incorporated both of their teachings.
Dherisan eventually left the clan, not really feeling at home there, and began wandering Varisia, serving as a mediator for various tribes and factions. He has a strong belief in the intrinsic value of life, and serves as a wise-man and taveling soothsayer to a number of Varisian Clans and Shoanti tribes. He often works as a go-between in dealings between such people. He has averted small-scale conflicts between the Varisians, the Shoanti (including internal wars between Shoanti tribes), and even the occasional band of goblins, as he would prefer to see all cultures preserved.
Dherisan has come to the festival because he spends much of his time in the wilds, he needs to stop in a town now and again to resupply. With all the merchants rolling out their wares at the Festival (and pricing them competitively), it's an ideal time for this.
He's a devote follower of Pharasma, but tends to focus on the more benevolent aspects of her portfolio. He believes there is wisdom in allowing things to unfold along their natural course and timeline, especially life and death. In this respect, his mindset is similar to that of the classical druid, but he also considers the supernatural a normal part of the natural order. There is very little that offends him by its very nature, the sole exception being the undead.
When dealing with others, Dherisan is quite amicable. He is quick to make friends, as he tends to see the best in people. He sees quirks and flaws as being very natural (and often times amusing) and is more likely to respond to ill manners with a bemused smile than with anger. However, though he is quite adept at offering counsel to others, he speaks little of himself. He is something of an observer in demihuman society, and finds that it is easier to react to things in a fair and objective fashion when he minimizes his attachment to any one individual.
He favors simple utilitarian clothes that reflect his affinity for things both natural and supernatural. He sports an open black robe that covers most of body, though its hardly the same cloth worn by erudite scholars. His clothing has clearly seen use, and is decorated with pale blue or purple patches in several places. Several shamanic fetishes dangle from his clothing, especially on the sturdy walking staff he carries with him, most of them made of carved bone.
His familiar, a fox named Ember, is a most unusual animal. It has ash-grey fur with red "socks," making it appear as some sort of "reverse fox." It's clearly more intelligent than the average animal, and at times it seems that it's trying to engage others in conversation with its high-pitched barks.

I fixed the club, and changed to the Alertness Feat, losing the Weapon Finess Feat (for right now).
The Sense Motive addition comes from the trait Suspicious.Still working on background.

Hi Ringtail!!!
I know you have 4 applicants at the moment, but I'd like to ask if you could consdier another pair of adventurers?
Me and my friend are eager to play a pair of characters. We're both good posters and writers, and extra willing to put in effort in this game.
We'd be playing a halfling ranger and a half-orc alchemist. More detail to follow in just a second!!!
If nothing else, its easier to scale encounters for 6 PCs!!! :p
DarkestHeart
Greetings,
I am Poets friend, DH! Yes, we would indeed love to join your PbP!
Our characters are a pair of Bounty/Monster hunters seeking to put an end to bad guys and bring peace and safety to the world. I will be playing the part of Ranger Flitter Whistle, if you so choose to allow us to join you.
Tardek Skarn
Here is VP's part of the indubitable duo.
Tardek Skarn, alchemist and consultant for Flit Enterprises.
My stats and background are in my profile.
Tardek is as shy as Flit is boisterous, but he's a good investigator and knows much about magic lore to cover Flits bases when investigations encounter such things.
LastNameOnEarth
I will be playing Gorgoron, a dwarven cleric of Sarenrae.
He is very young by dwarven standards, and an unusually kind and gregarious dwarf. He has a firm belief that no form of hard work in beneath an honest man, and is just as quick to pick up a hammer for pounding nails as he is to raise one in combat. He has a great soft spot for children, and he is in Sandpoint offering his help to those in need, particularly children needing safe escort to those places they can be raised safely and receive food and care.
Stats and a more detailed background will be available in his profile (as soon as I figure out how to make one).

Everyone's characters sound great so far. Looking at the applications, all of the characters sound like a ton of fun and the 6 right here look to make a pretty well rounded group. Running for 6 shouldn't be a problem - the group I play with offline (when we can actually get together) is generally much larger anyway. Once everyone has their backgrounds and character sheets finalized we can begin. This filled much faster than I expected.
Ringtail
Awesome! I'm really looking forward to it, and we seem to have a remarkably well-rounded party here. I assume that everything with Dherisan is in order? Please let me know if there's anything that needs changing.
Mostly. I think your perception modifier is off. I count 1 from a rank and 2 from alertness, and 2 from elven senses, which should come out to +5 with your familiar and +3 without, but you have +6 listed. Also, I think your Reflex save should be 2 higher with your familiar about, but I'm not sure if it is listed incorrectly, or if you didn't add in the modifier because it may not always be about.

Fixed!
So I hate to drag the metagame into this, but I was wondering how we'll be handling hit points an xp? (especially xp, since the values given are balanced for a 4-person party in 3.5)
Ringtail
Is there anything wrong with Ansruath also? I have keep changing different things because I remembered different parts I forgot to add or did not add in all the modifiers.
Your speed is listed as 30. It should be 20 in the armor you listed until you pick up armor training in a few levels. You may have listed it as your base and are going to take it into account during movement, but I wanted to mention it for completeness sake. Also your curve blade's damage is listed as +5, with a 17 Str it should be +4 (3 + half rounded down of 1).

When I run PF, since XP isn't expended on item creation or spell effects, I find it unnecessary to track it. So I'll just tell everyone when to level their characters rather than hand out XP, unless someone has a strong aversion to that method. As far as HP totals go. I'l be keeping track of everyone's HP in my DM notes along with other character information I need to quick reference, but I would urge you to track current HP totals by editing it into your characters' profiles as well.
Ringtail
Happens there are a lot of them but hey at least it lets people play a character that better suits them.
Yeah. I'm a big fan of many of the archtypes. It lets prestige classes actually reference membership in organizations as opposed to being necessary base classes + and lets players work with their concept right from the start. I just hope if Paizo plans on pushing out many more they are presented a little better, preferably in the form of charts, with modular abilities.
Tardek Skarn
Huzzah!!!
I think Tardek is fairly okay in terms of stats and mechanics, but if you notice something amiss, please call me on it. I was thinking of taking the chirugeon archetype myself, but I'm not sure exactly what that will entail and Ultimate Magic isn't out until next week?
Would I be able to take it retroactively? It may only affect me in a slight way, but I reckon it will replace bombs with something else, and I like the idea of being the surgical/CSI part of Flit's operation.

Everything on Tardek's sheet seems to be in order to me. As long as it is a balanced archetype (which I think is fairly likely) it should be fine to retcon. With the mutable nature of alchemists it shouldn't be to hard to explain away in game and keep immersion. My group did something similar when the APG came out and it worked fine.
Ringtail
I believe Gorgoron is finished. Have a look and let me know if there is anything wrong with any of the numbers.
Gorgoron looks good. Just to note, I see you are planning on using a heavy shield. Keep in mind that if you have he heavy shield out along with a weapon you'll need to put one or the other away to cast. Other than that, all he needs is a reason to be in Sandpoint during the Swallowtail festival.
Gorgoron
Good point about casting. He'll add the Weapon Cord item from the APG to his Scimitar and warhammer. It allows him to drop a weapon and leave it dangling from his wrist. He can then recover it as a swift action.
As for the swallowtail festival? When crowds gather, so do the needy, so he'll have come here for the festival in order to try and find beggers or urchins that might come to the festival to beg from the more fortunate, or in some cases, steal from them. In either case, he will be there to lend them some aid, and hopefully show those who have turned to thieving a better option. With your approval, he may have also been given some cash or resources to distribute on behalf of the church.

Not a bad idea. Free food and drink will be prevalent during the festival, but it is likely that with autumn starting the church of Sarenrae would have supplied him with extra bundles of warm clothes and blankets to distribute to the needy before winter sets in and spread the warmth of Sarenrae's light even when it is the most fleeting.

Ringtail's Rise of the Runelords
While we are still waiting on Alyoma's background there is enough information for everyone to get started. Link above.
