Are you coming to Paizocon? If so, how long after Paizocon will you be flying home?

I will not, but Doug Miles (name drop) and my wife will most certainly.

Dear Kyle,

With the ramifications to soon follow with the recent rulings about Animal Int, do you think more players are going to be willing to use Raise Dead on their Animal Companions instead of letting them rot in the turn style that the Animal Companion currently is?

I think most GM's will continue to be unaware of the implications of the change and will ignore players not using Handle Animal. GM's like Doug Miles (name drop) and myself will be some of the few who do.

Players who want to use their companions as meat shields will continue to do so.

Does poor grammar and spelling make you cringe? If so, what sort of punishment would you exact upon those who violate your sanity and patience?

Poor spelling and grammar in "teh interwebs" doesn't bother me at all (unlike Doug Miles (name drop)). Poor spelling in a work email (which has spell check), drives me insane. I can't comment much on grammar since I'm an engineer and not an English major.

Perhaps I can not, but Doug Miles (name drop) knows the secret to keep you quiet. I shall consult with him tomorrow night.

Yes, I am coming to PaizoCon, and sharing a room with Doug Miles (name drop). We both are leaving the Coast Bellevue around 7:30 on Sunday night.

Dear Kyle,

Why do you hate plants? What did hippies ever do to you?

Grand Lodge 3/5

Kyle, why are you not recognized as the fun-loving, hug-giving, flower-sniffing, poetry-reading quasi-Canadian that you are; while Massacre Miles gets a SantaClaus-like reputation?

I know which one killed my character.

Why does Todd make so many lists?

Mark Garringer wrote:

I have hated plant ever since a GM described an Assassin Vine as asparagus shortly before he nearly TPK'd us (no, not Doug Miles (name drop)).

I never said I hated hippies!

Technically Doug Miles (name drop) lives closer to Canada, so he should be considered the quasi-Canadian, despite my love of beer and hockey. Doug Miles (name drop) could be confused with Santa Claus due to gray hair and his belly that shakes like a bowl full of jelly!

Todd makes so many lists because he's Todd, and he's EPIC.

How many sessions are you removed from your 4th star?

Wouldn't you rather run these sessions than answer questions?

Yes, Doug Miles (name drop) and I talk frequently. Mostly about you.

Trick question! Detroit, also home of Venture Captain Doug Miles (name drop), will be victorious in 6 games assuming they figure out a way past SJ.

Last I checked I was five scenarios away from my 4th star. Since Gamicon in February I've been really busy and have only run a handful of games. Thankfully Doug Miles (name drop) has been helping arrange tables for me to run and I should have it later this month (perhaps on the 22nd when I run Cult of the Ebon Destroyers).

I'm hopeful that Hyrum and/or Mark have something cool planned for the 4-star folk who show up at PaizoCon. I know Jason is going. Not sure about Stephen. I know BobBob dropped out due to some other lame responsiblities.

that's what happens when you have a ball and chain

Kyle - which is better .. to be tied down and not be "allowed" to go to a convention, or to be single and go to all the conventions you want?

The Exchange 3/5

Kyle--

It is well known that you are a merciless GM who delights in a sponge bath using the character sheets of those you have slain.

Let me pose the following hypothetical question:

Suppose you are GMing 2 parties in the same PFS scenario back to back.

Suppose, for the most part, die rolls are pretty much the same on both tables.

Suppose also that the average party levels and composition of the two tables is pretty identical.

However, one table roleplays the heck out of their characters and tries to have a good time, but doesn't have minmaxed characters. The other table is a mixture of power and meta gamers who delights in 'winning' with little roleplay.

Is one table more likely to die than the other? If so, why?

In your vision of PFS, does/should roleplay have a benefit (outside of fun, I mean)?

-Pain

p.s. For me, the answer is heck yes.

The Exchange 5/5

Kyle .. why aren't you posting as much today? Doug Miles (name drop) have you tied up elsewhere?

And can I have pics please.

The Exchange 5/5

He's getting ready to run Fortune's Blight tonight & probably hard at work on some cool handouts and custom made props. He also may be at Walmart buying some bubble bath to use with his dead-PC loofah afterward. He's found the bubble bath instructions are easier to follow than the ones on his shampoo.

gotcha .. bubble bath doesn't have the whole "rinse and repeat" thing to get him stuck in a loop .. tho with Trish gone for the month he really has nothing better to do does he?

I'm sure Doug Miles (name drop) will tell you it's better to be single so you can do whatever the heck you want, but deep down, I think he wishes he had a ball and probably not a chain. Perhaps two balls would be better?

Personally I prefer my situation, having a wife with her own hobbies so she can respect my hobbies and the need to drive 12 hours through the night to get to a Con. It also helps that scrapbooking is her favorite hobby so I get to use all her crafts for Pathfinder.

p.s. For me, the answer is heck yes.

You can NOT answer your own question! Bad Pain!

I have stated elsewhere that role play does have its benefits. GM's are well within their right to apply minor bonuses (boni?) and penalties as they see fit. Doug Miles (name drop) does it all the time for role play.

Mechanically, I will often apply anywhere from a +1 to a +4 for a certain situation. Want to dive across the table, between the enemies legs and stab him in the back (and you've described it yourself w/o someone telling you to do that)? Go for it, make an acrobatics check. What I won't tell them is that they're likely to succeed if they're an acrobatic character type and they roll reasonably well. What I won't do, however, is allow for good roleplaying PLAYERS to completely negate their CHARACTER's weaknesses. If you play a 5 Charisma dwarf, you'd better keep your mouth shut at the table when negotiations are taking place. (actually I would assume you WOULDN'T keep your mouth shut since your table manners are probably lacking. Thus you'd probably be hurting your party by your mere presense) If the DC is 20 and you have a negative Charisma modifier, there is nothing you can say that will help you make that check. You chose to dump that stat, and the character needs to deal with it.

I think it's important to point out that both tables will likely have equal amounts of fun.

In regards to death, the table that likes to "win" will usually have a higher death count. That's mostly to do with there likely being more combat encounters. What I also find is that the vast majority of those who have combat optimized characters aren't optimized players. Probably 90% of player deaths I see are caused by player errors, no matter what their character build is.

In summary:

1) Yes
2) Yes, within reasonable limits.

Why would Doug Miles (name drop) tell you he's not your friend? Silly question D-Moon!

Yes you should feel less loved because Doug Miles (name drop) isn't your friend. Everyone in the world should pine for Doug Miles's (name drop) affection.

Do you enjoy playing "good" NPCs or "evil" NPCs? How about PCs? Why?

Did you DM "Hook Mountain Massacre"? Is so, did you enjoy roleplaying Mama Graul? Did you make your player's want to vomit in their mouths? Did you make any PCs "squeal like a pig"?

I enjoy playing all NPCs regardless of alignment as long as they have interesting motivations. I usually find the most entertainment out of neutral NPCs because PCs never know what to expect out of them.

I've never had the chance to play an evil PC. With a controlled group of players, I think I would enjoy the opportunity to stop the good guys from winning. The problem with a uncontrolled player base is that too many people think playing an evil PC means you have to be a d-bag to the rest of your party.

I don't usually think about alignment much with my characters. Much like a cavalier, each character has a set of beliefs and a personal code of conduct they stick to. Whether that's labeled LG, N, or CN doesn't matter to me unless someone's casting Unholy Blight. ;-)

I have not run or played Hook Mountain Massacre. Perhaps Douglas Miles (name drop) has. If he did, I'm sure he made his players actually vomit at the table. Of course it also had nothing to do with the module in question.

Dear Kyle,

This is actually a serious question as it seems you may actually have input that I may find useful..;)

I see that you bring your wife to conventions, I have not been able to find myself doing the same, not because my wife does not want to go, but because I am worried that I will not be able to give her any attention during the convention and she will not enjoy her time there. Did you face similar concerns before you first started to bring your wife to cons and how did you deal with them?

MarmaladeDog memory:

GM Kyle quickly setting up the board with the party and the friendly city guards. I comment that our cavalier would like a charging lane. Kyle smiles and said not to worry about it. No words but 'this is not a combat'.

Party interacts with town guards. No one in the party speaks (quiet table). So my Cha 6 dwarf speaks up.

Kyle: "What! You're letting the dwarf speak?"

Kyle rolls some dice.

Kyle: "Roll initiative"

So my question is this: Kyle, do you see this kind of stupid interaction happen a lot and does it usually turn out poorly for the party?
