Hi there! I am kinda new to Pathfinder and have been using these forums to ask for advice on making a Range Cleric.
Recently a magical weapon property, Guided, was brought to my attention by james maissen.
Looking at http://www.d20pfsrd.com/extras/collaborators/review-queue/ap-10-magic-items , I noticed that it came from one of the adventure paths and the description says:
A weapon with the guided property allows its wielder to use his instinct when striking blows with it. Attacks from a guided weapon generally don’t strike hard, but they strike at precisely the right moment to maximize damage if in the hands of a particularly wise wielder. A character who attacks with a guided weapon modifies his attack rolls and weapon damage rolls with his Wisdom modifier, not his Strength modifier.
This modifier to damage is not adjusted for two-handed weapons or off-hand weapons—it always remains equal to the wielder’s Wisdom modifier. A guided weapon may be wielded as a normal weapon, using Strength to modify attack and damage rolls, but this goes against the weapon’s nature and imparts a –2 penalty on all attack rolls made in this manner.
Question: Can a bow/ranged weapon, etc, a longbow, which uses adds Dex to attack have the Guided applied to it?
And if so...
Question: Does it uses Wisdom or Dex to determine the attack?
Sorry if this question has been asked before. I tried searching the forums, but can't seem to find a proper answer.
Thank you!

This will kinda affect what my character can be. Does anyone know the answer? Or at least point me in the right direction?
There was a discussion about this some time ago, but there isn't any clear answer.
I think there most reasonable answer, is to allow guided on ranged weapons (which uses str for damage) but only use wisdom as a substitute for the damage bonus.

It seems that the intent might have been for melee only, but it does not say it. RAW you can use it with ranged weapons. I don't know if I would allow it though.

Hummm.... So there was talk about this weapon property before. Thanks for letting me know.
A weapon with the guided property allows its wielder to use his instinct when striking blows with it. A character who attacks with a guided weapon modifies his attack rolls and weapon damage rolls with his Wisdom modifier, not his Strength modifier.
Funny thing about this weapon property is that its description starts off contradicting itself. It says does not strike hard... seeming to suggest it allows a boost to attack but not damage... then follows it by saying that the damage is deals is maximized.
Feels like one should do a "will check" to make sure that the attack is "precisely the right moment" each time a player wants to attack... lol
Anyway thanks for clearing this up. I will have to ask my DM if its allowed. Thanks!

The intention does seem for it to be used with melee weapons. It would not allow you to replace bonuses for dex with your wisdom bonus as it specifically say:
"A character who attacks with a guided weapon modifies his attack rolls and weapon damage rolls with his Wisdom modifier, not his Strength modifier."
Only attack and damage rolls based on str would be affected. A club used in melee would use replace attack and damage with str bonus, where as if you threw the club as a ranged weapon your attack roll would be based off Dex as normal but the damage would still be modified by Wis if you apply RAW.
It is further reinforced that it is for melee type weapons as there is no caveat in the last sentence if you choose to use the weapon as normal and use dex to hit instead of Wis ie for a ranged weapon.
" A guided weapon may be wielded as a normal weapon, using Strength to modify attack and damage rolls, but this goes against the weapon’s nature and imparts a –2 penalty on all attack rolls made in this manner."
It is unclear whether bows would add the wis bonus for damage if it could be used on a ranged weapon. Would it add the full wis bonus or only the wis bonus up to the max strength allowed by a might bow? Would it add to bows that dont add Str to damage?
