Hey guys!
Part of Mark's post from today in the Additional Resources thread:
We have updated the Additional Resources list for Pathfinder Society Organized Play. Changes include the following:
Added Pathfinder Module: Tomb of the Iron Medusa... to the Additional Chronicles section.
Tomb of the Iron Medusa is for 14th level characters!
And from the PFS rules download for Tomb of the Iron Medusa:
Players have two legal options when playing Tomb of the
Iron Medusa for Pathfinder Society credit:• A player may use an existing Pathfinder Society
character of 12th level who has completed a full, four-part
Tier 12 retirement arc.• A player may also create a new 14th-level Pathfinder
Society character for use in the module. A PC created in
this manner has wealth equivalent to 185,000 gp but no
single item may cost more than 92,500 gp. Newly created
14th-level characters have no Prestige.
So have fun all you folks wanting more high level adventuring! :)

I saw it, but is it wrong that I'm less excited about it?
While I want these extra mods to mean something, they have that silly "no death, no-consumables" thing that means I can't muster the excitement for them.
Rather than giving us an experience to truly be proud of (I survived XYZ! I died in XYZ..it was awesome!), we get mods played in Sumo suits.
Yeah, I'm old and grumpy.
Your reality may vary. I just don't believe in reward without risk.

Did you read over the guidelines for play for this one?
Conditions, Death, and Expendables
For players using a 14th-level PC, no conditions (including
death) carry beyond the end of a module. Likewise, any
wealth spent or resources expended during the course of
the adventure are considered unspent upon the module’s
completion. ***Players using retired 12th-level PCs handle
death, wealth, and conditions as normal.***
Granted, nobody has a retired 12th level PC yet...

No, I missed that. Thanks for pointing that out.
Consider me much less grumpy.
Thanks.

I know of a group of players who will have retired June 5th.

My cleric and Chris' paladin will level to 12 at the Siege. Arlene's druid is one or two modules behind, so as soon as we get to play the 12th level arc, we'll be retired, too.
|
Question: I'm going to be applying this module's experience to my 9th-Level character. How do I determine how much treasure he should receive, since it doesn't make sense to talk about "playing up" or "playing down"?
From the rules in the Download of the Chronicle Sheet
When a PC’s level falls between two tiers, the player always rounds down, receiving wealth for the lower tier.
So Tier 7-8.

Our group in STL have at least three characters that are looking to retire at GenCon (assuming a level 12 arc is offered)...we're 11s now.
My wife and I are talking about doing that. I just hope that BobBob ends up being our GM.
Hey Bob, how 'bout it? Want a level 12 Trisha at your table? :-)

Alternatively, if Bob doesn't get a chance to play first, I could run you four through it during midnight madness at GC, you know, after I've had some whiskey...

Just my two cents but May's Pathfinder module is Academy of Secrets and its for 13th-level characters. Maybe they could await so PCs can play this and then play Tomb of the Iron Medusa.
Mike
Nope,
It's always been known that 12 was the limit. The line had to be drawn somewhere. Complaining about it now is just silly.

Playing continually capped at 12th will probably mean your gear will start to get crazy compared to the avg. 12th level character.

Strange, what I saw was not a complaint, but a fairly reasonable suggestion:
Delay playing Tomb of the Iron Maiden (14) with your 12th level retired PCs until AFTER you play Academy of Secrets (13) with your 12th level retired PCs.
Playing up one level is well within reason, and the extra gold gained from that would make playing up two levels a little bit more reasonable....
At least, that is what Qstor's suggestion looks like to me...

+1, that's exactly how I interpreted Qstor's comments as well, and I agree that a logical progression is to get to 12th level, play the Eyes of the Ten arc, then Academy of Secrets, and finally Tomb of the Iron Maiden. The order of release of the modules is not important to me.

What I think you meant to say was--
"It's always been known that 12 was the limit. The line had to be drawn somewhere. UNLESS, of course, a module comes out that is above 12th level and we need to make a one time exception so as to shoehorn the module into Society play. Then we move the line--but just for that one time . . . until we have a 18th level module, then that will be the only (or nearly only exception.)

TBH, I had mixed up my threads :P

Granted, nobody has a retired 12th level PC yet...
I'm actually running a group of 6 through the Eyes of Ten in June and another group of 5 in July. I anticipate being able to run these a third time in September for yet another group here in the Atlanta area.
I plan to run the higher level mods in August and Sept.
|
Callarek others that's what I was suggesting. :)
Mark had said that all of the "stand alone" store Pathfinder mods in the future were going to be adapted for PFS and I thought it was logical to go from the 12th level PFS module series to the 13th level mod to the 14th level mod. Thus giving the "appearance" of leveling to a point.
I wasn't gripping.
I'm very glad that Hyrum, Mark and others have opened the "store" mods for PFS play. It helps promote Paizo products.
I suggested to Erik Mona a while ago that they adopt the Kobold King series since they were low level. I guess they didn't want to go the 3.5e conversion.

we don't get to actually "level up" though right?
if you play Academy of Secrets with your retired character, he doesn't level up to 13th, and then play tomb of the iron maiden to "reach" 14th level?
they just get the gold and not the exp b/c they're retired characters?

I just read through the free pdf that goes along with Tomb of the Iron Medusa. Correct, you do not level up your retired character if using that character to play this adventure.
