New official rules? When did this happen?

Rules Questions

"Fully revised to match the new Pathfinder RPG rules, this definitive volume contains..."

Are there 2 sets of Pathfinder rules? What is the dividing line between them? How can you tell old rules products from new rules products? What changes were made between Pathfinder 1.0 and Pathfinder 2.0?
-panic mode off-

Please provide a link so that it can be evaluated.

There is only one set of Pathfinder rules, although there are a few bits of errata.

Perhaps the quote refers to the "new Pathfinder rules" as opposed to the "old 3.5 rules". That would make sense if it was a quote from a third party publisher.

Context might reveal more.

I'm not sure where you saw this but there is no new core rules set, there is a small amount of errata but it's maybe 4 pages tops.

Without knowing where you saw this quote I would suggest the 'new' rules would likely be from the APG.

I think I've seen the quote accompanying a few Paizo products as well. You've got it correct, Are; the quote means the product uses the Pathfinder rule set, rather than the D&D 3.5 rules.

Grand Lodge

I think that he is talking about the Pathfinder Society for Organized Play guide that was just re-released under a new edition number. Which IS a set of rules for Organized Play only. At least I think that is what he is thinking since it was featured in a blog recently that was released.

So some Pathfinder products use 3.5, some Pathfinder rules? How much difference does that make?

(picked up an assortment of Pathfinder books at a garage sale, new to Pathfinder)

Ah!

This simply means the 'new' Pathfinder RPG as opposed to the 'old' 3.5 rules.

The Inner Sea World Guide is all Pathfinder RPG - you're good to go!

Welcome to the message boards, by the way!

What is the cutoff between 3.5 rules and Pathfinder rules? 2008 sometime? How can I tell the difference? Is there some indication on the books themselves? I picked up quite an assortment, and would like to at least separate them by rule set

Older content is still good, especially stuff like Adventure Paths, or non-mechanical story/fluff books. Running an old AP all I really need to change is adding a bit of HP to the monsters, figuring out CMB/CMD, and having my players roll perception instead of spot (or whatever). The SRD also has some really handy monster/NPC conversions, too.

Check the back for an OGL badge or something saying 3.5, for the older books. Newer ones should say Pathfinder or "Pathfinder RPG" or PFRPG.

If you still can't tell, look for a stat block. If it has CMB/CMD it's new, if it has spot/listen/hide skills, it's old.

Yes.

Nice! So anything not on the list you just gave me would be PFRPG rules?

OK, I understand the particular instance now. The World Guide is meant to replace an older book, the Pathfinder Chronicles: Campaign Setting. The Campaign Setting (CS) was written before the Pathfinder Rules were released, and as such was written using the 3.5 rule set. In this instance the quote indicates the contents of the CS have been updated from 3.5 to Pathfinder.

As an aside, the Wikia Pathfinder project is several months defunct. The editors have moved, along with the project's content, to PathfinderWiki.

Thanks for all the great info!

Yes :)

So, follow-up question: How can I find out what exactly is available under PFRPG rules? Is there a comprehensive list somewhere?

I had seen that, but surely the 22 products listed there isn't everything PFRPG? Would this list be comprehensive?

Also, from this page you can find all of Paizo's Pathfinder product lines.

Within the page for each product line, you can see the 3.5 products or PFRPG products separately. For instance, the Pathfinder Campaign Setting page has a link to the 3.5 products for the line, and a link to the PFRPG products for the line.

Thanks!

Shadow Lodge

Okay, I first admit I suck at posting links in these things! :) On topic, there is also a free pdf for converting the 3.5 stuff (Paizo and any others) to PFRPG rules. not a huge thing either, just a few pages.
