Advice

So, I am going to run a game, and I have most everything lined up, except for what you would think would be the easiest part.

I want to have the characters collect items that represent the aspects/domains of their deity (custom home brew mythos).

They deity they have has the following Domains: Death*, Nobility, Repose, Strength, & War.

I think the easiest is War. I could have them collect a sword, helmet, shield, or something like that.

But I wanted to get input on the other things. What do you think?

Windquake

*one thing to keep in mind...in my mythos Death and Undeath are as different as Life and Death.

Only have a couple of quick ideas...not for all of them, mind.

Death or Repose: Shroud (like the Shroud of Turin)
Strength: Girdle
Nobility: Scepter (Such as the ones that are badges of rulers)

A bit more background...it is a higher level game, so plane jumping, big bad demon fighting (or angels!), etc is all on the table.

Repose: A relic of a great hero

Thanks Cydeth, I was thinking of the Scepter (or Crown) angle as well. I actually like the crown a bit better. Scepter, to me, still seems warlike, not nobility.

Can we "fantastic" this up a bit? Like the Crown of what? From who?

What would you think of something like the Crown from the first Elven King who is buried under what is now the largest tree in Elysium?

What about a signet ring of a lost royal family.

Death: An Urn or a Shroudas Cydeth proposed
Nobility: Crown, Royal clothing, Signet Ring (a personal favorite), etc.
Repose: Honestly don't have anything particular coming to mind.
Strength: Gauntlets, Gloves, Belt or Girdle
War: I think you have it covered but if you're looking for one item a couple other suggestions would be, a military banner or war journal from a general.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: Ninja'd... somewhat :p

Well, without the world it's hard to really say which. And then comes the question, how high of fantasy? Because...it could be to the point of, 'the crown of the previous god of Nobility'.

Ha, good point. It would take a lot to explain...so keeping it generically high fantasy would be best for now. :)

War: Tabard from a battle field of a historic war.

Strength: Canopic Jar (heart) from the plane of earth.
Ladies Favor (the scarf tied around a jousters lance) of a famous knight, Ysgard.
Smith's Hammer, City of Brass.

Repose: the root of a twisted tree grown through a cemetery, into an underground cavern, plane of limbo. The tree, cemetery, and and cavern entrance would be difficult to find, and would be the reward, not the fight, other than some nasty twisted BBEG inside the cavern.

Death:
Shackles of a damned lich, Tarterian Depths of Canceri. (Dead and damned, not undead)

EDIT: added 1 or 2 more, will move to next post for any more

Here is what I have so far:

Death - The burial shroud of the original leader of the "deathdealers". The original leader later assumed the mantle of the very deity they are working for. Of course you can't desacrate their temple/your deity's temple...should be interesting.

Nobility - The crown of the first elven king. He is buried under the largest tree in Elysium. This will lead to some confrontation with some Azata of course...

Repose - Drink some tea with an old man in the middle of the Maelstrom/Limbo. Some calm in the chaos. I need to work on the details a bit on this one.

Strength - The Heart of Jah-Harray (the strongest Earth Elemental). Basically he will be an Elemental Lord.

War - I think I will go with finding a sword of some kind.

What do you think about those?

*edited to adjust for Stubs' idea..

Death: A cog, or mechanical being that has stopped functioning from the Clockwork Nirvana of Mechanus.

Sounds like fun btw :P

Well, let's think, then...and realize, I'm going to be making some assumptions here.

The Ivory Crown - Carved of the wood of Yggdrasil, this crown of thorns was the favored crown of Arkrandoth, an ancient king of the Azata.

Livania's Shroud - The burial shroud of a High Priestess from 500 years back, Livania was said to have stopped an army of undead in their tracks by sacrificing her life to raise a long-dead hero who was too old to have been resurrected from the dead. This shroud is said to be imbued with some of her power, and the strength of her sacrifice.

Anyway, a couple of ideas.

Might suggest having Nobility have to do with the living... being rewarded with the current king of the Azata's crown after deposing him and putting in place the rightful ruler (a child?) Political intrigue + social skills required, fighting would occur in a more "civilized" fashion, if at all.

Well, my first thoughts on those things might just reveal something about how big a dick I can be when I DM, but that's kind of how my group rolls.

Death - A full-sized marble gravestone that is magically enchanted in some weird way and weighs 300 lbs (just to see how they handle that)

Nobility - Someone has to actually marry into a royal family. An entire quest of social skill checks? Yes, I would do that.

Repose - I loved your idea.

Strength - Someone has to accomplish an amazing feat of strength. I would leave it intentionally vague and follow the cues of the group to make it up on the fly. That would really, really depend on your group.

War - That would be the name of a very ornery, mean, magical trouble-making war horse. Nearly impossible to ride and magically cursed to attract evil creatures if removed from a magical grotto or whatever. He must be defended and also controlled then entire way back (which, of course, would involve plenty of rivers, quicksand, cliffs, etc).

Lol, beautiful.. I was thinking about the heavy stone gravestone myself, or a stone coffin, something far too big to fit in a bag of holding or portable hole, but decided it might come across wrong :P

Awesome.

Thanks everyone.

I have some really great ideas now.

I will post the full story when it is done in a few months (the campaign).

Its under the effect of dimentional anchor and other similar effects.

Cant levitate it, teleport it, or use magic to move it.
