Collected Adventure Paths?

Pathfinder Adventure Path General Discussion

Sczarni

I've been playing Pathfinder for over a year and a half, and really enjoy the game. So much so, in fact, that I've introduced some friends to the game. Rather than write my own game, I picked up the first Rise of the Runelords module and ran it for them.

They've really enjoyed the path and are nearing the end. My LGS doesn't have the other modules on the shelves, and they're out of print online. While I can download the pdf from Paizo, I typically prefer to DM with paper copies rather than using a computer.

I was wondering if there were any plans, or interest, in reprinting some of the earlier adventure paths, perhaps updating the ones that functioned in 3.5 to fit in the current Pathfinder mechanics.

They'd likely come out to somewhere around 600 pages, estimating roughly 100 pages per module. However, you could likely cut the short stories or bestiaries if you were so inclined, since the creatures are now in the Bestiary and Bestiary 2.

While it's just a thought, I know that I'd definitely love to run some of these earlier Pathfinder adventure paths for my groups, and would willingly drop 40 or 50 dollars on a collected edition. Not sure if I'm the only person who prefers paper at the table over a computer, but I just thought I might toss the idea out there, even if it's a bad one.

This is a topic that comes up a lot, so if you get some snarky replies, don't take it personal.

I don't recall the exact responce that is generally given from the powers that be...but I think it's something along the lines of "we're more concerned with producing new content than revisiting older stuff, though we are giving it serious thought." In other words, maybe some day, but you might not want to hold your breath.

There have been a number of good conversions online, both here and other sites. But yeah, if you want to run the rest of the AP, you're pretty much stuck buying the PDFs, or paying collector type prices on ebay.

The last time this came up, Vic directed people here. The gist is that, if people know they can wait and get a hardcover, fewer people will subscribe to the issues as they come out, and Paizo will go out of business before they can get to the compilation. (Plus, the price point for such a hardback would be higher than most people expect/have said they'd pay.)

That said, Rise of the Runelords, most of whose issues have are sold out and being the first AP, is eventually likely to see the light of day as a hardcover compilation but is not yet on the schedule -- and no promises when/if it will be.

Liberty's Edge

Given those replies, if I were you, I'd buy the PDFs of the ones you can't get and either print them out, or use them in electronic form.

My guess is that we might see something like this only as a commemorative release.

Something like a 5th Anniversary hardback Rise of the Runelords updated to Pathfiner RPG.

It would have to be a release which made it clear that waiting for hardback compilations is not a viable alternative to subscribing.

Yup. General consensus is the only one we might ever see as a hardback update/compilation is Rise of the Rune Lords. Maaaaaaybe if that sells really well they might do Curse of the Crimson Throne, but don't hold your breath for either one.

I'd buy either of those in a heartbeat.

Wasn't there a sale some time last year where you could buy all six issues of Curse of the Crimson Throne (say) at a discounted price?

For the Christmas sale, they offered all the books, the cards, the maps, and the guide to book for like 85 bucks. I remember that because I bought that bundle. Amazing deal. Not sure if they will have enough copies left to do that this Christmas, but I'd keep my eye out.

Just a note - this was still more than you would have paid if you had subscribed to the AP at the time (which would have been about a dollar cheaper plus you would have had access to the PDFs)

Oh, I do subscribe. That particular path was given to a friend who was running the adventure. I subsequently moved, and needed to replace it.

Even though I have the AP Rise of the Runelord, I would gladly pay the price for a hardbound updated copy! Especially an Anniversary issue!:) Maybe even signed by some of the staff! (Just add to my Wish list)
