Ma Kent vs. Aunt May!

Comics

Martha "Ma" Kent is the adoptive mother of Kal-El, who she (with her husband Johnthan "Pa" Kent) names Clark Kent. He would later assume the identity of Superman, who is considered a "superhero" by the general public. Her husband is currently dead, and she lives alone with a "super" dog as her only companion.

May Reilly Parker-Jameson, commonly known as Aunt May, is aunt-by-marriage and adoptive mother of Peter Parker, who leads a secret life as Spider-Man. She is nurturing and supportive of Peter although, throughout most of Spider-Man's history, she has not known of his secret life and considers Spider-Man frightening.

Both of this women are considered elderly at the present time. Ma Kent was raised on a farm, but she has done little work since she adopted Kal-El. With his super powers he does all of the farm work for her, so she basically just sits home, knits, cooks, and watches TV.

Aunt May has had to work for most her life in various occupations. She currently works in a homeless shelter. She has fought, and dated, supervillains. She is also very tough, and the only person she is frightened of is Spider-Man.

In the fight between them, Aunt May would beat down Ma Kent. She would start off by scratching and pulling Martha's hair. Then, she would start punnching Ma Kent, until she fell down. Finally, a few well placed kicks would put Ma Kent down for good.

They wouldn't fight at all, they would have tea and quilt a rug.

+1 to that!

Liberty's Edge

Please, Ma Kent has at least a hundred pounds on that scrawny bitty. Not only that, but since Clark left for Metroplois, her and Pa have had to pick up the slack around the farm, so she has been working out. Not to mention, Ma and Pa Kent don't seem the type to just lay around while their son does all the work in the first place.

You are wrong on all your points. First, Ma Kent is fat, so that is 100 pounds of fat for the very muscular and athletic Aunt May to beat on. Second, due to Kal-El's super flight and superspeed, he has continued to do all of the work on the farm. Third, yes, the Kents are the type to just sit around and be lazy. When Pa Kent was alive, he liked to smoke and drink too much, which caused his heart attack. Don't believe the lies that the DC editors tell you...

okay the moment this fight got serious, Ma kent would shout for help, and with super hearing, her son would hear it and come running.

After reading Blackest Night...

No contest, Ma Kent.

just from an intellegence point of veiw here.
Ma Kent for the win.
She knows about her sons powers and helped shape his id since birth plus in the original story line she even made his costume once he heat visioned his old babby blanket into a pile of thread.

Aunt May on the other hand doesn't seem too bright. She has a super hero living under her roof. Peters "strange" behavior has never once caused her to question him, even when he disapeared because he had six arms and couldn't be seen as peter.

Her dateimng habits lead to yet another question? why are all these horrible men interested in her? If she bothered to think she would realise that thye ALL have spiderman as an enemy.

Honestly aunt may has just never been portraid as being overly swift.

+1, absolutely.

Though I have to also agree that in all likelihood they'd just have tea and quilt.

Aunt May was once the Herald of Galactus. That's got to be worth something.

Im sure Ma Kent knows how to use Pa Kent's shotgun. End of story.

Wouldn't Spider-Man just make a deal with the devil to make sure Aunt May won?

Well played.

Okay so we have come to understand this contest will never be decided by a test of arms.

So I say we settle this with.... A BAKING CONTEST!

Scarab Sages

Hang on, let me consult my team of experts....

shakes magic 8-ball

pulls name out of hat

flips coin

Yup, just as I thought. Ma Kent wins every time.

Worst storyline ever!

Although, sadly this entire thread has been rendered moot by Ma Kent's Badass thread, a true chronicle about just how awesome she is.

Yes, but then Aunt May would soundly beat Ma Kent at a game of pinochle. Ma Kent would retaliate by dominating in several rounds of Scrabble.

Ma Kent over the addled Aunt May any day. However, when you consider dead father figures, Uncle Ben is much, much, cooler than Jonathan Kent. Or maybe that would be was.

And by 'cooler', you mean 'much less significant in the shaping of the person', right? Clark had his dad around to talk to for years into his heroing days. Spidey, not so much. All that Ben does is serve as a catalyst to the story for Spideys first villain takedown.

I think the best contest between Aunt May and Martha Kent would be a parent swap.

First off, I'll mention that I've always believed Aunt May knew all along that Peter was Spiderman and just kept talking about that "Horrible Spiderman" as a passive-aggressive way to let Peter know that she didn't approve. In any case, she'd do the same with Clark, telling stories about "That awful Superman!" so he'd know not to pull a costume change in front of her. She'd then follow the next part of her M.O. and start into some geriatric cougar action on Supe's prime villain and within one or two issues would be married to Lex Luthor, helping him with plans to destroy Superman while broadly hinting to Clark to stay in the closet and keep his job as a reporter.

Martha Kent, meanwhile, would move into the family house in Queens and would probably shock Peter by washing and ironing his Spiderman costume while keeping a police scanner tuned to crime reports so she could tip him off on anything that he should be doing. She'd also have a faithful heart-to-heart with Peter about his grief and guilt over Uncle Ben's death and she'd let him finally have a good cry with a lot of tea and sympathy. Then she'd follow this up with a lot of American patriotism about doing the right thing because it was the right thing, not because of guilt, and would probably see about getting Peter to talk to Captain America.

I'd say Ma Kent wins.

Your description of Ma Kent here is almost exactly what Ultimate Aunt May is doing right now.

No. His guilt over his uncle's death remains a present motivating factor.

Which is depressing. You wish she'd go back to dating the Vulture.

Eh, matter of opinion I suppose. I kinda dig where they've taken Ultimate Aunt May, and Ultimate Spider-Man in general.

A present motivating factor without which, there would be no Spiderman.

In either case, this isnt a Jonathan vs Ben fight, so I guess it doesnt really matter.

And as I said before, Martha surely knows how to use Jonathan's shotgun, lol.
