Hey Jormungandr...Thanks for the acceptance, but I had another game I had applied to first accept Darcy today also. I think the party makeup for that game probably fits Darcy better anyway. Again thanks for the opportunity, but I'll open the spot, and give someone else a try. Good gaming, and I'll keep track...
Hey I didn't mean that "next plane out" bit to be taken literelly!
:)Have fun in the other game.

Ok. Because the coffee kicked in and I have some time. I went through the thread and noted the non-slected applicants. I think I found everybody.
In no order.
Rautha Draces - Human Necromancer
Dariyia - Change ling/Human Ninja/Rogue
Raveneth - Dhampyre of no fixed profession.
Thannic - Half-Orc Oracle of Battle
Catman - Arcane Duelist
F. Castor - Expressed interest
Diskordant - Fugg??
I think these are the current candidates.
My two cents: Necromancy is fun but would a wizard step on the Sumoners toes?
We could use something like a Rogue. I am not familiar enough with the Ninja to comment.
A Dhampyre in Carrion Crown. Need stock up on torches and pitchforks. I predict a bull market.
A second oracle....Hmmm. Granted a battle oracle is a very different beast. Would this hamper our stone oracle or would the friction brive them forward?
Two bards, admittedly two very different bards. Could work, be odd, but it could work. Want to make a comment about Creel providing the spotlight and the bards as backup-singers but it's not coming together.
What in the name off our precious bodily fluids is a Fugg?
F. Castor, if you can hear me send more info!
That is all, hope it helped.

Fugg is a Half-orc druid from my Serpent's Skull game, basically it was Diskordant just letting me know who he was :)
I'm liking Tharnik but yeah I'm not sure about two oracles, talk, make sure you guys aren't stepping on each others toes and I'll make Tharnik the replacement.
Also, no ninja...

Wondering about lack of roguish goodness. May be a concern. :/
Also at high level we will be packing enough divine magic to resurrect disco. Also Creel is done 'cept for appearance and personality notes. Care to give it a once over?

I can't speak for the other Oracle (obviously), but I'm definitely focused on combat/combat support with heals as a backup only when absolutely necessary. In fact, my spells (burning disarm and magic stone) should make that fairly evident. CLW is only there because I have to choose cure or inflict. If need be, I can certainly switch over to inflict and focus 100% on combat.
(Ironically, in terms of builds, both Battle and Stone are combat orientated, with Battle having more "healing" options. Heh. Go figure).
EDIT I've also played around with the idea of a duel class as an oracle/fighter, too. If I did, I'd probably take Improved Initiative and Toughness to make Tharkik more "frontline."

I'm just sad at the loss of my flanking buddy.
So if my opinion counts for anything :
No necromancers please. My character has enough issues with the undead to have someone parading around their zombie army.
The Dhampyre: With no fixed profession he can be roguish if we absolutely need. I honestly like the potential interactions between Rendel and Ravenath. Rendel doesn't "hate" undead so much as pity them.
Oracle: Oracles can be very different even more so than clerics. The one in my game is path of bones at 8th level and is currently sporting a wizard necromancer cohort with half dragon fast zombie minion a fire giant fast zombie of his own and a fast zombie chuul he has dubbed Mr. Pinchy. He doesn't do combat. He lets the enemy do combat for him.
No ninja's either. It feels so out of flavor in this group. Rogues are fine honestly. Key thing to remember is that we are mostly LG.
As for the druid we've got divine magic flying out of our ears. And outdoorsy specialist doesn't hurt but I'm grabbing survival anyway simply because of track.
Honestly I'd vote for the dhampyreif he went with something roguish.

Key thing to remember is that we are mostly LG.
Is the whole group LG? Man, talk about some role-play between the Pally and I! I'd be curious as to how "alignment" is dealt with, too. Do we assume because someone is NE we can just off them or will the GM require "evil acts."
I'm curious because playing the redemption angle (which I'd love to do) could be cut pretty short by an over zealous paladin with detect evil.
Of course, it would be interesting to be present at the professor's funeral when we all met..

Serad Rocide |

Er, is this game still open? I'm suddenly finding the Carrion Crown games far and few between. As I said on another thread, putting all one's eggs in one basket isn't a wise move.
I'd like to offer this fellow up for the game. All the main information is in the profile, but the main idea is an eccentric fighter who focuses on adaptability--improvised weapons in particular. He's Lawful Neutral to the core (although his personality can sometimes give the air of a more chaotic nature).

Creel |

I'm just sad at the loss of my flanking buddy.
I'll do what I can. I am aiming for "swift aid" and "gang up" over the next several levels. Creel is a, hold this ground and let the battle come to me sort of person.
You might also want to look at Gang Up. It grants flank if 2 allies threaten the target. Where the allies are does not matter.
Could be fun

At least two of us.
Speaking as the Paladin you will get Detect sent your way the first time you do something I consider questionable. However no action will be taken until you endanger other folks lives or property beyond what is warranted by the current situation. Creel believes in redemption and I hate intra- party conflict. Besides I have too few smites to burn them on party members.~Creel.
PS. No promises as to how the Inquisitor will see things those guys are hardcore.
PPS. To DM. Final version of Creel under name. I realized I was min-maxing rather than letting things flow more naturally. I think everything adds up.

Saturday gets so busy for me, it's hard to deal with sometimes.
I'm trying to be combat-oriented, moreso with melee and cranking my AC with flavor and everything (note the +1 nat armor feat).
I'm going to be a heavy-hitter eventually, but for now I'm all about 'using a sword versus stone - it doesn't work.'
While you'd be on my toes, by all means, play what you will - I probably will be using self-buffs more than anything, since we have access to all cleric lists... and a lot of those spells can be amazing.

Tharnik of Clan Black Sun |

Well, I certainly don't want to be on your toes! In fact, I'll make sure I wear small shoes! ;) Seriously, I think there's a LOT of access to divine magic in the party, so I don't have a problem filling out some of the arcane/auxillary roles, either. I could, if it served the party, shift to another Mystery (Lore or Air) without upsetting the theme too much. I was just figuring that being a half-orc from Belkzen, he'd be more inclined to manifest the Battle Mystery.
That being said, an overall question for the group:
You have a LOT of combat characters with access to divine magic. Will people be focused on healing themselves or will there be a dedicated "healer" for the party?
Alignment
Oh, and Creel, that's good to hear. I'm more interested in the play side of the PbP than people getting stuck in mechanical roles. That's a relief and I think leads into a better dynamic!! ;)

Torthen Azduum |

Actually, I need to correct myself. I was very tired when I made my statement, and need to realize a few things.
1) I made a mistake with his statistic, since oracles are CHA based. If I don't fix it, I never get 9th level spells until 20 (without items).
2) I forgot I was supposed to be a caster first and melee second. Go ahead with the Battle mystery if you will, I'm going to go fix my boo-boo now.
As for Alignment issues - I've never believed it to be just to just kill evil for being evil. Some people say 'nip it in the bud', but that's evil in itself. No, my paladins wait for you to do something stupid, and then you're done.

No problem tweaking your sheet for Torthen, its what this stage of the process is for :)
Also, yeah sorry Kobold but I'm full at the moment, if you're interested in a Module you can apply for my module game at Cult of the Ebon Destroyers.

Hey guys, since we're not looking for any additional players at this stage I thought I'd change us over to a OOC Discussion Thread.

![]() |

Attention! Attention! PbP under new management! Recruiting two (yes, 2) new players for the ongoing Carrion Crown PbP!! Click the spoiler for details!!
1) If you applied for this PbP and were not selected in the past, you will have some preference, but ultimately I'll still grab the characters that fit best with the group.
2) Sadly, we're only taking classes out of the published books. So, the APG and Core book. No ninjas, gunslingers, samurai, and the like. Sorry.
3) The group would really shine with a dedicated rogue build. Just saying.
4) The PbP has started, so a separate scene would bring these new characters into the fold. Characters should still know of Professor Lorrimor, hearing of his untimely death and perhaps electing to pay respects. I'd love to see a pair of characters from the University of Lepidstadt.
5) New characters should be point-buy (20 points) and should link ASAP. I'll be closing the recruitment on Friday.
Good luck, good gaming!!

I'll submit this guy for the rogue part! He was originally submitted for a 25 poiont buy game so I need to adjust his stats; which I can do this evening when I get home. As well as his background needs to be adjusted.
I am also unfamiliar with Carrion Crown so as long as thats not an issue...
Thanks!

Submit away. I'll have a look when I get home tonight.

I've got this cleric of Pharesma who would be suitable for such a game, although it needs working on to get it sorted out. The current background is set up for Curse of the Crimson Throne, which he didn't quite get into. I'll change his focus to be more death and necromantic for this game, as it seems more appropriate.
I'll get to flesh him out and change as required, probably on Wednesday, got to prepare for my RL group tonight, as I'm running the LOF AP.

Just a note for those interested in increasing their chances. The party includes:
An Inquisitor of Iomedae
A Paladin of Undetermined religion.
A dwarven druid
An Oracle of Battle(will eventually leave as this is the GM's former pc in this game)
A Summoner/Bard with gunslinger inclinations.
We've got charisma scores dripping out of our ears here...

Speaking as the Paladin in question. I second Replacements word on a rogue.

Greetings! Due to people moving and schedules futzing about my RL games have all dried up and I am in need of a channel. I am a long-term gamer and strong writer, and I wish to humbly submit the following character as a possible addition to this campaign:
A young, bespectacled Varisian man in scholarly attire sits poring laboriously over a heavy tome, not seeming to notice the candle flickering as you enter. Nor does he take note that he is alone until you clear your throat. Loudly. Twice.
He looks up in startlement. "Oh. Oh! Welcome! Please, forgive me, I knew you were coming but I lost track of time! Um... here, sit, please!" A small avalanche of books reveals a chair for you. "And tea! Oh. The tea's gone cold. Oh, you didn't want any anyway? That's nice of you. Um... yes. Hello. My name is Vaghn. Vaghn der Grafft, junior professor in the studies of the Arcane and Ethereal Realms here at the University of Lepidstadt." His handshake is surprisingly firm, his gaze direct. You can see that, while he may not be a statesman, he is a likeable sort and probably well thought of by his students. "I just received the news. Poor Professor Lorrimor! The man was like a father to me! His theories on the nature of ethereal conflux were what made me decide to take up the mantle of scholarhood myself! Erm... I am terribly sorry I missed the funeral. I was busy writing a treatise and the missive got temporarily misplaced. I am sure the Professor would have understood! Anyhow, my treatise is complete and I have been hard at work setting everything to rights. I have filed an extended leave of absence with the University, purchased and packed a number of supplies that should see me through the journey, and am ready to go!" He enthusiastically jumps up and starts pulling various pouches and oddments from piles around the room. At the last he curiously hangs a bullwhip at his hip and places a hat upon his head. "So, um... where are we going?"

Vaghn der Grafft |

About to attempt to get some sleep, but just wanted to say that my roommate just pointed out that my character concept is, indeed, Nerdy Indiana Jones. And you know what? I am at peace with that. I think after the first couple levels he can "take a level in badass" and start multiclassing as a rogue and focus and blending the loremaster with the dungeon delving, giant boulder dodging archetype. :P Check the profile for a cleaned up version of the character sheet I posted btw. Thank you, and good night!

Well, you certainly started off on the right foot! Where is the Archivist class? Is it 3.5 (I seem to remember one) or an alternate build for a bard/wizard.

Asuna |

Archivist is a Bard archetype from APG. I'd also like to submit myself for consideration for this one. I have Asuna (Variant Tiefling Cleric of Sarenrae, or several rebuild options), and I have a variety of other options I've been thinking about playing. I know you're looking for a Rogue-ly type. In addition to Asuna, the following are things I've been thinking about:
The Elf Rogue's backstory currently has her as a "priestess" of Calistria. I've also been bouncing the idea of playing a Goblin Rogue.

For a long time, Gumz Bigtracker was a fairly typical Goblin. He ran around with the others, causing mayhem and tracking the Longshanks. Gumz in particular was excellent at sneaking up on people and at hitting people with the shortbow. He was always a bit different from the others, though, because he wasn't afraid of the Longshanks the way the others were. Gumz was fascinated by things that he found, especially the books. He never held with the common Goblin belief that writing steals the words out of your head. He couldn't read, though, so he horded his secret stash of books for a long time. He thought that one day, if he learned to read them, he could be the best Goblin ever.
One day, Gumz was out searching for food and hiding from the others. He had one of his favorite books with him (he liked the pictures), when he came across an old human being menaced by a rabid dog. Gumz knew how to deal with that. He quickly whipped out his shortbow and shot the thing dead. Then he started talking with the old human. The man's name was Lorrimor. Gumz was initially wary of the taller being, but Lorrimor overcame that when he noticed the book at Gumz's side. He offered to teach Gumz to read it. Gumz quickly seized on this opportunity, and went with the Longshanks. It was an illustrated book of children's fairy tales. Gumz was astonished. When he mentioned his people's fear of writing, and worried that the book had stolen the words from the writer's head, Lorrimor laughed. He then closed the book, and told Gumz to think about the story. Gumz thought about it, and then told the human what he thought. The human wrote down what he said, then showed him how he could still think about it even though the words were now on the page. Gumz was dumbfounded.
From that day forth, Gumz carried his Book everywhere. He never lost his talents from his days of being a non-reading Goblin (as he came to think of them). He made himself the best, sneakiest, smartest Goblin he could, and he always kept in touch with his friend Lorrimor, who also taught him to write as time went by. When Gumz heard that Lorrimor was dead, he was very sad, and thought he must go to the funeral to pay tribute to the Longshanks who opened his eyes and taught him to read.
If people don't get picked for this one (including myself), I have another recruitment thread going looking for players and a GM. Best of luck.

Here is the background for Dillan, if its good and he can join the group i'll finish everything else. :D
Growing up in Ustalav isn't a pleasant experience for most and for some few, like half-breeds, its worse. Its not uncommon for a few bastards to be just hanging around, begging for their copper, or just waiting to die. You see most people here don't care about them. Some so much go out of their way to chase the half-breeds out, accuse them of sharing demon blood or worse.
Dillan was one of those unfortunates. He didn't choose to be a half-elf and just as suredly didn't ask to be in Caliphas. All he really remembers was the orphanage, though that was more of a lesson in beatings. The 'Mother' had named him Surestep as he was sure to step into trouble each day. As time went on Dillan began to wonder about the troubles and wondered if all he had done wrong was being born; being a half-elf.
He left the orphanage as soon as possible attempting to work out an existence on his own. He scrounged for food, stole, and enjoyed what little merriment he could find - granted most of such merriment was with the comfort of women. It was after one of these encounters he met Professor Lorrimer.
She was a constables wife, apparently he wasn't caring for her as she would of cared for and well Dillan not wanting to see a woman cry took to comforting. Escaping in the early morning, during the fog, when her husband returned home. He initially thought himself free until the man came barging back out the house screaming for more 'law' officials, next he knew he was running. Turning a few corners and ducking into many allies he soon ended his running crashing into Professor Lorrimer. Seeing his fear and knowing what the 'law' would most likely do to this half-elf he created the lie that would be Dillan forever in his debt. The constable arrived shortly afterwards certain Dillan was the subject but Professor Lorrimer assured him he was innocent and infact was one of his servants sent out to fetch him fresh breads for breakfast.
Dillan was surprised this man wanting nothing more, he simply said, "Be ready if I ever need you." Left alone in the fog Dillan spent the rest of his life in fear, fear that this man could one day go back on his word turn him in for the act and he would soon be dead. After all why would they waste jail space on a half-elf...
His campaign trait will be Making Good on Promises

Heaven's Agent |

Name Eingal Barringald
Race Dwarf
Class Wizard, possibly entering eldritch knight prc
Bond Item bond, ring
Campaign Trait Making Good on Promises
I'll see if I can't get the character fully stated up by the end of the week. I'm looking at building Eingal as a spellcaster/archer, and as such the character's focus will be staying out of the fight and attacking at range. I'll probably pick up a level of fighter at some point to gain bow proficiencies, and enter the eldritch knight prestige class if the campaign takes us in a direction that would support such character development. I'm likely to take Craft Magic Arms and Armor at some point, if for no other reason than to craft my own ammunition; magic arrows are somewhat inexpensive to create and don't take too long to complete, but can greatly improve the capabilities of an archer.
After the ring's completion, Lorrimor took the item and promised to return it when he next passed through the region. When that time came, Lorrimor had added a brilliant sapphire to the setting, as well as an enchantment. The Professor told the dwarf to present it to her love, and not too worry about repaying the debt; he would one day call upon her services.
Barringald had just finished his formal training when the maiden presented him with the gift. As soon as he took the item, it grew warm, and an engraved message appeared inside the band. Eingal had been taken by the young woman's looks for some time now, admiring her from afar, and was now rendered speechless by the gift; the two married within the year.
Eingal and his new bride settled in Tar-Kazmukh, where Eingal began training to one day join the Blue Warders, a sect of librarians based in the city. However, after two years tragedy struck, and his wife was killed by monsters attacking from the Darklands. Shortly thereafter, a message arrived from Ustalav, addressed to his dead bride. Eingal has heard about how Professor Lorrimor had brought the two dwarves together, and upon reading the summons to serve at the man's funeral Barringald decided it fell to him to fulfill his late wife's debt.

Hey dont worry bout considering me. Applying to a Rise of the Runelords game and I only want to be in 2 (and I really want to play that one honestly)
*runs off*
I doubt anyone here will blame you. There's been a Rise of the Runelords and a Curse of the Crimson Throne recruitment recently. I would have loved to be in either game.

The archivist, is, as has been pointed out, an archetype for bard as detailed in the APG (though I believe you are also right, that there was a 3.5 base class of the same name from the Heroes of Horror book... how appropriate for this campaign!). They mostly gain the same general abilities as a regular bard, albeit in a different order, some highly amusing bardic performances (I love pedantic lecture!) and the ability to disable magical traps like a rogue.
Good luck and happy gaming all!

Well, I'm definitely leaning in the direction of the Archivist and the Goblin. I'd love to see a creative effort between the two of you, merging the concepts so that I could bring them in together!
For instance, would you be willing to have worked alongside the goblin, writing a lengthy piece on the social structure of goblin society or perhaps something on goblins in myth and legend?
Would he (Gumz) have studied at the University of Lepidstadt? Might Gumz have been the university's only goblin student, a curiosity that delighted the scholars? May have the professor, at some point, have introduced the two and they've just recently decided to travel together to honor his life?

Well, I'm definitely leaning in the direction of the Archivist and the Goblin.
Those are your choices then? should the rest of us still be trying to get into the game?
Giving such precise instruction to specific concepts makes it seems like you've already made your decision. That's fine, but it'd be nice to know if that's the case. Some of us spend a lot of time when fleshing out a character.
