Stunning Fist for Monk Alt Class

My monk didn't start with Stunning Fist.

If I take Stunning Fist as a general feat, can I use it 1/day for every 4 levels? Or a number of times per day per the Special section for Monks?

My understanding is that it would be your monk level, as it was balanced that way in 3.5 when stunning fist was just a feat. What you do NOT get is all the other status conditions that you can use instead.

How did you not start with stunning fist?

Some Monk Archetypes replace it. Hungry Ghost, Monk of the Four Winds, Monk of the Lotus, Weapon Adept, and Zen Archer.
