Hey
as a GM for the last 7 years I decided to expand my horizons into the realm of online forum gaming - play by post according to the local terms, or so I understand.
the PBP will be of the Paizo official AP Carrion Crown, though keep in mind I reserve (and will use) the right to make thorough changes to plot, characters and locals according to my own judgment.
Now, as fan as PFRPG is as a tabletop roleplaying game is, it just won't work as an online game. a single battle could take us a month of posting realtively pointless massages: "I swing my greatsword at the Dire Puppy. 17." that's not all that fun,
SO - despite the fact that it will force me to change some things radicaly, I will cut all dungeon crawls out of the AP. having the game take place in a forum allows for some great things that are hard to achieve in a table top game. The AP will be very horror oriented, direct confrontations with unnatrual forces will be short, sparse and deadly.
if you are intrested tp join , please post a comment stating so on this thread. I am aiming for a group numbering 3 to 5 players (not including me). I have no preferances for players, so the first to post are the selected players. Please join only if you are serious about playing.
when I'll have my group of players I'll post what I expect of each player before we start (something along the lines of reading the players guide for the AP, creating crunch and fluff and so on).
donato Contributor
I'm definitely in! I have my character done already!
Dhampyre magus!
This is his sheet. I'm translating the background and description to english right now (it's in spanish).
I really like his background, by the way. I also rather like the fact that he uses the royal banner as a cape. It's a neat idea that I might steal for a Cavalier I'm playing.
scranford
I'd like to play. Guess a melee character of some sort, maybe a combination Ranger/paladin.
One question. Much of the experience and treasure from these AP's comes from the Dungeon crawls. Were you planning on increasing the other encounters, or just not worried about experience / treasure. I'm good with either, just a little concerned that the challenges might outscale the players.

I have a lot of experience in PBP games and I have to tell you that, with the players warned, the combat can go at a 1 round each 24 hours. The one who hasn't posted his actions by that time is PNJted by the master.
Edited: but playing this kind of PBP game, not combat oriented, could be a good experience indeed ^_^.

you guys are in for posting first. congrats, you got it!
other people - sorry, missed the chance. please do not keep commenting about wanting to join!
alright people, let's get down to buisness:
each of you should send all of the following staff to me as personal massages.
A)read the player's guide
B)full character background. don't make it all too lengthy - remember that the PC's legend should develop along with the camiagn itself. also, remember to tiw your PC with the proffesor.
c)a short (roughly one paragraph) description of the PC's personality, just so that both you and I have something initial to expect
d) full caharcter stats according to the PFRPG Core Rulebook and Advanced rulebook. if you use any metirial outside of these two books, please add a full description of it, since I don't own any further rulebooks. no Homebrew stuff please. your PC is a 1st level character.
I want to make a democratic vote on the next matter. how many opoints do you think will be apropriate?
in my opinion this is a perfect oppertunity to use a 15 points system - we are playing a combat light, heavy roleplaying horror game where you heroes shouldn't be really larger than life. but this is up to you so please vote ASAP so we can commance on character creation.
thanks and good gaming for all!

By personal message do you mean a spoilered post, email? I don't think this forum supports personal messages.
Oh and 15-points is fine with me.
How about the playtest classes...Magus, Gunslinger, Samurai, Ninja?

Ok, it seems that 15 will be the final amount. That means that I have to make some changes to the sheet. I'm on it right now.
About the beta classes, the only one mentioned in the players guide is the magus, which I have chosen. But I have to use the beta document, so no archetypes for me :D
I want a clarification about the "personal messages" thing too, please.

Alright, also, by personal message I mean use a spoiler tag.
please do not read other people's characters! . your PCs should not know anything about each other when the adventure starts! (unless two of you specifically decide otherwise and combine your backgrounds - in that case make it crystal clear to me)

There is a treat in Pathfinder Companion: Second Darkness Player’s Guide that says "Benefit: You gain a +1 bonus on Diplomacy checks, and Diplomacy is always a class skill for you.". This is a trait that comes great for my character concept, being him the son of a countess. Can I use that trait for my character, please? I want also use a trait of the Carrion Crown Player's Guide.
Question: Is this the OOC thread of this game?
Papa-DRB
No problem. I just knew that when I removed the avatar that I was using stuff like this might happen.
I have to get ready to spend the day at my volunteer job. I'll put something together tonight or first thing tomorrow (Friday) as my wife wants to go to a lecture tonight and drag me along....

Background
"Dragos is the son of the countess of Suquerova, Ileana Moldoban. She was a woman who doesn't cared about getting married because the hell of marriage that his mother has. But, she was having strange dreams with a handsome aristocratic man who seduce her and lay with her in his bed each full moon.
The terrible truth of his dreams emerged when his belly began to grow. Everyone in his lands thought that pregnancy to be a miracle. But the miracle turned a haunt when the baby born. A baby that wasn't totally alive. A baby who was hurt with the bright light. A baby who was waken up in the middle of the night by the scent of the blood.
Everybody noticed the terrible truth. A vampire enchanted the countess each full moon and seduce her, having this son as a result.
His mother raised him the better she could, but she was in an internal fight almost everytime between the mother's love and the hatred of a dishonoured aristocratic woman. And as much as Dragos growth, the worst turned the situation, because that son was too similar to his father, that seductive and powerful creature that visited her in her dreams.
Dragos suffered seeing the ostracism that the towns people gifted to his mother. He knew it was his fault. But he was developing a desire to fit in the society, to restore in his mother the pride for his son. And that was the fuel of his efforts to focus his vampiric power at the service of his community and the town nearby. This grant him the tolerance of the towns people (not his love).
In the eagerness of self development, he attended a lot of classes in the University of Lepidstadt, where Professor Lorrimor itself taught some of them. That was the way they meet each other. Lorrimor never saw a dhampire before and focused his attention in Dragos for a couple of months. But, the most interesting fact about Dragos was his determination of fit in the society that always repudiate him. They became friends until the Lorrimor's studies brought him to distant lands once again."
Personality
"Dragos suffered a lot because the ostracism his town people grant him and his mother, but he felt that this situation could change. He is always in the mood of help other people, even when they don't appreciate his help. He want to make great things and tell everybody that the Moldoban house did it. He doesn't do it for his own fame. He do it for his mother honour to return. He don't want her to be remembered for giving birth to a monster. He wants her to be remembered for giving birth to a saviour of his people."

Ravenath-
first, I'd like to thank you for the lightning speed comment, that is exactly what I am looking for in a player - the will to invest small yet significant amounts of time in the game to make it great.
I do have a couple of issues though:
1. Please spell check your English. This is not criticism but your syntax is often confused and it makes your stuff hard to read. I am saying this as a non-English speaker, and I want you to know that I do that all the time. It's just more reader friendly. Thanks and please don't take this the wrong way.
2.I am not familiar with the race d'hmpair... I assume it is a child born a vampire. if you could please state where you found this race and send me a personal message (meaning spoiler tag it) with the crunch and fluff? Remember that as awesome as it is I will not allow it if it's homebrew.
3.The inline character sheet you linked contains only the same text as that in the spoiler tag. Did you link to the wrong doc? I need the crunch of the character too.
other then that it's pretty cool.

Hey, sure, I'm all for you volunteering, go community go. And wives, I am told, are pretty important. So enjoy the lecture. I myself will probably not be online the next couple of days since I am meeting my girlfriend. Question: Is this the OOC thread of this game?
Ravenath-
Oops! Read through your online character sheet and its fine. Just a quick question: did you use the playtest Magus or the actual thing? If the latter, are there notable changes I should be aware of?
Also: the trait you took is fine.
All -
Just a few notes I forgot to include in previous posts:
A) This is the OOC (Out Of Character) thread. this means if you have any comment you want to make that has nothing to do with the game or that is meta game (for example: If you want to consult each other about what skills you should increase when leveling up etc.)that way we keep the actual game thread (I'll open it when the time comes) crunch free and roleplay focused.
B) All playtest classes are OK for play
c) each of you is entitled for 2 traits. you could use all traits from all player guides and from the Advanced rule book.

About the grammar thing, you are totally right. I shouldn't make complex phrases if I haven't master the language. I'll solve this writing short ones, but well constructed.
About the Dhampire, it's one of the two recommended races in the Carrion Crown Player's Guide. The other one is the Changeling. His characteristics are detailed in the Bestiary 2, but I'll write it down here:
+2 Dexterity, +2 Charisma, –2 Constitution: Dhampirs are
fast and seductive, but closer to death than most mortals.
Senses: Low-light vision and darkvision 60 feet.
Manipulative: +2 racial bonus on Bluff and Perception.
Undead Resistance: Dhampirs gain a +2 racial bonus on
saving throws against disease and mind-affecting effects.
Light Sensitivity, Negative Energy Affinity.
Spell-Like Ability: A dhampir can use detect undead three
times per day as a spell-like ability. The caster level for this
ability equals the dhampir’s class level.
Resist Level Drain.
Languages: Dhampirs begin play speaking Common.
Those with high Intelligence can choose any language as a
bonus language (except druidic and other secret languages).
About the Magus, I have used the latest Magus document, the one located in the Round 3. This is the last valid magus reference document until the release of Ultimate Magic.

Alright, I would want to point out that so far we have 2 arcane/melee types (dragon disciple and magus), a sneaky type (yet to be determined), an inquisitor and an all out melee type.
You might come on a little short on healing and divine might, but it seems OK.
I believe the Melee fighter was my original concept, since changed to the sneaky one. I count (2) Inquisitiors, (1) Dragon disciple (Starting as Ranger), 1 Magus, and sneaky type.

Hmm, I didn't realize that we had another inquisitor. But I like the build concept, so I think I'm going to stick with it. I'm not sure how well we're going to do with all hybrid classes (we don't have any straight melee or 9-level full casting classes), but the campaign is mostly roleplay based anyway... I'm not sure we need to worry too much about power level from what I understand

I am sorry Darcy, but we are already at max player capacity. you are too late to join.
I wished to inform you all that I have just recived my "will be shipped sometime in the next 2-6 buisness days" notice in my email. Haunt of Harrowstone is coming, baby!
when it hits my download page I want to be able to start as soon as possible, so please take note to yourself that you have probably less than a week to finish working on your characters.

Snow,
I am sorry, but I can't play in this pbp. One of my players wants to run Carrion Crown as soon as all the books are out, and my guys and I have a deal. If you are a player you keep out of the relevant Paizo threads, and also don't play in that AP's pbp. They have all honored the deal and kept out of Legacy of Fire and now Kingmaker, and I have honored it by keeping out of Serpent's Skull, and now I need to keep out of Carrion Crown.
Good luck, and I hope everything goes well!

Description
Exelar is a relatively young aasimar who uses a celestial name to honor his mother and the godess who sent her to give birth to him. He is tall and fair, a shining example of an attractive man, as dictated by his celestial heritage. He wears a simple breastplate, with a travelers cloak wrapped around his armor and belongings. He travels light, relying on the church to provide shelter and food in cities and his own skills to provide them if he has to pitch camp in the woods. He is suspicious of strangers, but can be quite lighthearted with those he trusts. Honor and loyalty guide his actions, but he always remembers that his first duty is to his goddess. He can be reckless in his pursuits, but his intentions are always pure.
Background
Exelar is the son of an angel and a paladin in the service of Iomedae. He grew up at a temple of Iomedae deep in the countryside of Ustalav, raised by his father, Valakin. The priests and paladins considered him a gift from their godess and he was groomed from an early age to uphold her principles. However, by the time his son reached the age of training, Valakin had grown disillusioned with his order. He did not want to have a life of conflict and death. With no end to their hunt in sight, he could not see how his life could turn out different with the paladins of Iomedae. He urged his son to join the priesthood, perhaps to travel to the big city and become a religious leader. He told him that he could serve his godess in other ways.
But the celestial blood running through Exelar's veins led him to a different path. In a tragic battle two years after he began the training of a preacher, his father fell and his spirit was whisked away as his body rose in the form of an abominable undead. Overcome with grief, Exelar swore to carry on his father's fight and avenge him, perhaps even liberate his soul by slaying the abomination he had become. All of the sudden, he was calm. He felt such a surge of inner strength that he could not deny this impulse. He joined the paladins on their hunts, drawing what little divine training he had had. He quickly discovered that he could draw on the strength of his celestial blood for many things that others could not do. He did not restrain himself in the same way the paladins did, he let his insincts take over to find his quarry and slay it.
He worked on his own style of hunting, eventually teaching several other youths in the church to follow in his ways. He established his own small group that worked together and distanced itself from the rigid code of the paladins. They took more liberties in their hunts and they were more suspicious of those around them. A hunt once took him to the big city, where he had the chance to encounter Professor Lorrimor, a sage of great wisdom, who greatly impressed him. He inspired Exelar to pick up some books and increase his knowledge as a way to supplement his ample natural abilities. He returned to the professor time and time again for help with difficult hunts.
Today he still leads a small group of inquisitors, fighters, and rangers in the service of Iomedae. He has instilled a new tradition in the church, deviating from the core of paladins and clerics. His celestial furor has not faded and he still finds himself flying to a rage in combat, though he's learned to tone down his emotions lest an intelligent foe takes advantage of it.

Do you still need a healer or tank type of character? If so, I'll gladly join in if you'll have me. I'm an old timer who cut his teeth on Basic back in '83 and fell in love with Pathfinder when it was released at Gen Con two years past.
I can post every day, but during the work week, posting times are limited to early morning and late evenings; on weekends I can post just about any time of the day.
Let me know if I can get in. Thanks!

Great! I have a character already built for another game that I never used. If you check my aliases, look at Durgan Stoneshield. I'll need to redo his stats for a 15-point buy and adjust his skills and background, but all of the other stuff is pretty much there.
If you prefer a different build, just let me know.

Here we go!
http://www.dndsheets.net/view.php?id=14079
Background Story
I died many years ago. I was left by my so called friends and I passed away.
The man I was, used to run with bandits all about the countryside. From Caliphas to Redleaf, we were living off everyone's wealth and hard work. This was just fine with me. We made enough to survive and nobody got hurt. However, one day, Darrick pushed things too far. He wanted to steal from a nearby orphanage. Kids, for Shelyn's sake! That's where I had to draw the line. However, I would never expect them to have to make me choose between helping ourselves or helping the children. I had made my choice and this pleased no one else.I was left behind with a sword in my side and spit in my face.
As I lay there dying, a vision of a great silver dragon came to me. It called to me, to fly in the sky with its kin. Magnificently, it roared my name, calling me its brother. I reached out to join it, but my hand met a face. My vision slipped and I saw an older man, leaning over me, just a began to fall asleep.
When I woke sometime later, my wounds were healed and my body was able and well. I learned the man who found me went by the name of Professor Lorrimor. He was a very kind man with a gentle face. This was the man that gave me a new life. After about a week, I felt ready to return to the outside world. During this time, the Professor and I spoke a lot and become friends. As I left, he told me one last thing. He told me I owed him one. Personally, I felt as if I owed him my life, but he was a very generous man and I was more than grateful.
I returned to the wilderness and began to live on my own, the entire time with two fears in my heart- that I would find Darrick and the others again and that I would not be able to live up to the Professor's request. However, it's been many years and neither of these have come to face me. The only thing I've seen of those days is the silver dragon. It visits me in my dreams, always imploring me to join it in the heavens. The dreams have led me to the church in hopes for answers. I learned from a cleric that my dreams were telling I was blessed by a lineage of dragons. Soon enough, I came to learn of the dragon god Apsu and began to follow his teachings.
After all this time, I've finally received a letter. The Professor has passed and I've been asked to come to his service. I don't know how he found me, but I don't doubt for a second that he could. I am in his debt, and the least I could do is honor his memory.
Personality
Devrin is a very good man, as of late that is. When presented with new people, he will be very cautious and closed to them at first. If he sees they are also good-natured people he will open up and even try to befriend them. He has become rather untrusting of newcomers due to the incident with his previous group. He is very intent on helping those in need or those who cannot defend themselves, as a means to make up for his mistakes in the past. He is also somewhat serious, but it is not uncommon to find him cracking a good joke once in a while.
