** spoiler omitted **

Thank you for the breakdown.

Can you do one more thing for me? How much weight is he carrying, armor and all? I'm curious when I saw the Javelins, Chain, Shield and others and his 8 str. :D

Light Load for a person with 9 str is 30lb or less. (My backpack gives me a +1)

The Chain shirt is 25 lbs. Javelins are 2lbs each. Sword Cane is 4lbs. Shield is 6lbs. I think i'm going to drop the javelins. That puts me at 36lbs plus miscellaneous gear. No way the rest of the list weighs 24 lbs.

He's a professor so I could conceivably see him finding a use for this "other" stuff. But I'm sure it puts me into medium load nonetheless. I haven't had to deal with weight much before. Sorry!

I shall take Hanali. I remember the name vaguely from some lore long ago. =)

Silver Crusade

Hey Guys & Gals. Hey Sunny/Xane. Thanks Azoun for DMing & the invite. :) Has your wife decided on what she wants to play? I am leaning towards Divine Nature oriented caster (Druid or Cleric). Really wish they would make a Wizard type of Divine caster....

Anyways will watch for another day or two then post.

Most likely she will make a Ranger or Rogue with alterations from the APG or throw me for a total loop and make a monk. In the past, she's never played PRPG rules, she always made Scouts. But alas the class is gone.

Either way don't expect her to make a caster, she was never comfortable with the spells. ;D

Been monitoring this for a while, and was wondering what were your thoughts on lycans? i saw that Bestiary races were allowed, but I don't know that this applies to lycans as well.

If you're game to considering it, take a look at Bear (but avoid looking at his character sheet as is… I'm keeping his personality/story, but gutting his class choices).

Bear:
Build
Beargle "Bear" Zstellian is a modified Were-bear human.
Take Human as base creature, tag on the Were-wolf template, dropping DR to either 1/2 hit die or dropping it entirely, then dropping the trip attack thing entirely as well.
He'll level as a ranger.
Personality/history
Bear is… well… a bear of a man. Huge, blunt, loving the outdoors and adventure.
He grew up training to be a horse trader (read: horse thief), and is one of the better trackers of his family/community. He's the oldest of his brothers, all of whom have been killed or imprisoned because of their "family business".

He's rough, he's tough, and he just loves a good time. He's got a surprisingly tender heart for people in need, especially the kiddo's. And he's ridiculously loyal to those he deems "his own".

He was built to run with Udaya, and he did in antoer game. They were a fun pair to play… which is why i'm tossing my hat in here.

My goal for the guy would be to keep the power-level in check (by dropping or removing the DR and choosing an animal with under a CR of 1.. .in this particular character's situation, re-skinnign a regular wolf's stats to say it's a small bear.

my thought on DR:
DR has always been the biggest hurtle when using low CR critters to make lycans. Everything else balances out with the hit to your level, but that stupid DR/5 or DR/10 is just too powerful at low levels. My thought is to either remove it entirely or do a DR/(1/2 Hit Die). This means if the character has one class level (one hit die), the dR wold only be one. Once he hits level 4, DR goes up to DR/2. And so on and so on. Much less difficult for the DM to build balance dparty encounters for.

Well, dang... if your wife goes ranger, that might make Bear unnecessary, huh?

Sorry but the group is full.

We've got:
Elven Cavalier
Human Sorcerer
Human Bard
Tiefling Bard
Aasimer Paladin
(wifes char)
(LostSouls Char)

That puts the party at 7 PC's and I don't want to go beyond that at this point. Again sorry and thank you for the interest.

I'm thinking right now i'm going to start you and the Professor knowing one another. In a fashion.

Doh! That's what I get for not triple-checking when I update an online character sheet... UU is a Paladin of Sunar. I'll update my sheet and background with that info. If you could send me some place-names that would fit her background so I can make her backstory jive with your world, that would be great. No rush on that... just crossing T's as it were.

Her homeland and city should be from a desert region (so a vaguely arabic or bedouin sort of culture) and hopefully it is relatively far from where they are now.

I'm all about tie-ins, so if I know 'Doc' that is fine with me! :)

Sorry but its not going to be an arabic nation. And Sunar is still fine! I'm playing into the Aasimer side heavily on your location. I'll post more of the city and kingdom when I get home to all my information.

Not a problem, Azoun. I can work with what you have going on culturally. I figure you have to have some light-fighter/equestrian culture somewhere in your world that I can tap into. The salient point being that UU is a lightly-armored mobile fighter. She's not your 'shiny platemail' Paladin.

Total aside - are there multiple 'human' languages or just Common?

EDIT - One last thing... Let me know when you've checked the math on my equipment. I'd like to rearrange the equipment and strip out the price list when it's no longer needed. Thanks!

Rolling for 2nd level HD.

1d6 ⇒ 6

Yay! Updated profile will be up shortly.

Okay I think the character sheet is updated now - still needs equipment adjusted for new wealth, but that shouldn't change any of the numbers. I also adjusted the backstory a little.

Let me know if you have any concerns!

Udaya looks fine, except for one area that I have a Q about. Battle Arrows and Grapple Arrows? I'm not finding them in the Core or the APG. Am I just blind (which can happen with lack of sleep) or am I missing something?

Common and Sea Common. I was working on regional dialects but have ceased that. I may put thought back into that area again, but right now i'm focused on the other aspects.

The City you are from will be Pilaxious which is also the capital of the same kingdom. I will post more on that later.

Everything is looking good thus far.

Question on your backstory:
Are you solid on the 'left home aspect'? I was thinking of altering it in...family dead sole survivor, raised somewhere else then headed out on own. The rest of travelling merchant still being there, just the early part and basic upbringing being altered?

There are some issues with Crystal:

You spent 26 pts for stats. I'm only allowing 20. I need those stats redone as well as the equipment. Definitely not enough spent there, remember you have 1,000gp to spend on equipment.

Statistics:
Strength:.....15 costs = 7
Dexterity:....15(13) costs = 3
Constitution:.13 costs = 3
Intelligence:.12(10) costs = 0
Wisdom:.......10 costs = 0
Charisma:.....15(17) costs = 13

Total 26

Sorry for the confusion... Battle arrows are just regular old arrows. I was calling them Battle Arrows to distinguish them from Grappling Arrows which are out of the Adventurer's Armory, I think. You can find a reference to them HERE. Sadly, I can't link to the exact entry, it is one of the first explanation sections after you pass all of the tables. Basically, you tie a silk line to an arrow that carries a small grappling head. It has a range increment of 30'.

If you don't want us using anything from the Adventurer's Armory, no problem. I'll dump the arrows and get my 2 GP back. :)

I think that bottom line is wrong. Isn't that base Cha of 15 = 7 points? Then she's ok. I'm assuming the parenthetical modifiers are racial.

Actually, Azoun's figures are correct. Tiefling get a -2 on CHA... so the total cost of her character is 26 points... to buy up the CHA from 8 to 15. If her character had a CHA of 13, the cost would be 20 total.

Ok, i'm good with the hook, but I do have some questions about it.

What is the size of the grappling hook on the arrow? What kind of weight can this grappling hook hold?

I'm envisioning it as no bigger than say a mouse (computer type).

More info for Hanali

Spoiler:

Hanali Celanil
Goddess of Romantic Love and Beauty
Alignment: CG
Domains: Chaos, Good, Magic, Protection, and Charm
Holy Symbol: Heart of Gold
Hanali Celanil is predominantly depicted as feminine, though on rare occasions it is said she has appeared as a male. Hanali influences the spheres of love and beauty, and is widely recered by many of the elves. She owns an immense crystal fountain and pool with which she keeps watch over her followers, as if using a crystal ball. When she bathes herself in the waters of the pool (called the “Evergold”), her charisma increases by 75% allowing her to inspire awe in all who view her. These is only effective against elves and half-elves.

Yes, that's the Hanali I remember. Along with a certain black and white illustration from a Dragon Magazine, many moons ago...;)

Working the character up slowly. Shift work being a slight problem. Getting things done. *Curtsies*

I absolutley understand shift work, did it for 12 years!

I took a quick glance at Crystal, her stats are fixed. thank you for that.

Her languages don't match, in one spot it says Common, Infernal and in another it says Common and Elven. So which is it?

Don't forget the money is NOT in addition to starting wealth for a 1st lvl character, it totally replaces it since you are starting off at 2nd lvl.

*Nods* As I said, slowly working through things. Will deduct previous incarnations money from your 1000 etc.

With an Int of 14 she has a +2 so that's to extra language slots, so she should be able to have Common, Elven AND Infernal....yes?

DM Azoun wrote:

I've done a bit of research on this... unfortunately the information in the Adventurer's Armory is pretty thin, which is also true for the Core books regarding the grappling hook.

Grappling Hook weight: 4 lbs
Grappling Arrow weight: .5 lbs
Grappling Hook range mod: 10'
Grappling Arrow range mod: 30'

There is no information on sizes or load capacities for either really. I think it comes down to DM discretion and somewhat based on the type of rope used. In reality, the strength of a hook/rope will depend on how it is set and how the weight/pressure is applied. As a general rule, using a silk rope, with a grappling hook properly set, I would think you could reasonably carry the steady weight of 3 or maybe 4 people - assuming you don't 'shock' the load. Scaling down based on the weight of the grappling device, I would think a grappling arrow could carry 1 person with some flexibility for a 'shock' load of 1.5 x the weight of a standard character. I just can't imagine anyone would build a grapnel that will break as soon it shocked by a single person falling 10'. That is just my thought on it but it really does come down to DM judgment. The only obvious in-game 'mechanical' way to determine load capacities would be to figure out the hardness and HPs of a grappling hook and then decide what kind of persistent damage is caused by X body weight being applied steadily to it or as a shock. And you'd want to run the same assessment on the rope... so you can figure out which would fail first. :) That seems like a lot of work to me, but whatever floats your boat.

Exactly, just wasn't sure if that was what you were going with. I didn't want to assume. :D

More of what i'm looking at is:

Do to the size of the Arrow Grappling Hook it can only support one humanoid at a time, or two small humanoids at a single time. If more than that is on the same rope at the same time there would be a chance for breaking. Not the Silk rope, but the smaller grappling hook.

Sound agreeable? Or is it ludicrous?

Aeldris Caresti and Crystal D'glaese

Spoiler:

The Great Elf Kingdom, located in the Elven Woods, houses the capital Seldarne. Seldarne is a typical elven city in that it is comprised of homes and building constructed within and around the existing trees. It is believed that to fully cross the breadth of the great city it would take a full days travel on foot. The elves here typical to their nature are very aloof and standoffish choosing to not mettle in the affairs of their neighbors. In honesty they have more to worry about in their own homeland. They keep a tight control on their borders and are known to punish intruders severely. Those fortunate enough to return after crossing their domains borders often times recall nothing of the event. Many outsiders belief the elves use magics to erase the minds of those they release. The truth in this is kept secret by the elves of the kingdom.

Knowing they couldn’t keep outsiders away forever they established the city Kelsinko. It is here that they entertain foreign dignitaries and hold court with ambassadors of the other races. It is a well known fact that those ambassadors and dignitaries actually have no dealing with King or Queen of the kingdom and instead deal with their vassals. Most political decisions involving their neighbors taking days or weeks to be resolved as messages must be sent back to Seldarne for approval and/or guidance. A few days travel east of Kelsinko is the elven port town sharing the same name. The elves did this intentionally as a test to outsiders. If one came to the port and believed that to be the capital of the kingdom the elves were content to not know anything further, nor share anything either. Most only make it to the city of Kelsinko with advanced knowledge of the difference.

Elves from the kingdom also share its secrets with a resolve that one learns with such a long life and often times elves that travel beyond the kingdom are well into their 300 years of age. The elves here contain a dark secret that the noble houses all agree would be a great stain on their kin if it were to get out.

Seldarne was founded during the Time of Faith, it is rumored Corellon helped with the planning and development of the city. The elves here prospered well sharing their life with the woods in equal harmony. The darkest part in elven history happened here as well. During the God War Lolth began her revolt, her views and will spread like a plague among the elves and even some of the woods itself. Near the end of the God War Corellon came down from the heavens and became directly involved in the battle that pushed Lolth to the mountains and sent those following her into the underdark.

Now in the Time of Affirmation dark things have began to stir again in the kingdom, mainly on its western border alongside the same mountain range Lolth and her faithful had escaped into. Queen Liryana, a renowned Oracle, has for seen the shadow growing and has shared these dreams with her consort the king.

I'm going to tie the two of you into together. Not long time friends or anything. I'm waiting till Crystal is complete before adding anything further to this, and to see what LostSoul makes.

By the By, the Wife is 99% going to be making a Gnome Ranger (Archery Focused).

Aeldris if you have any input on the spoiler or something you would like to see is there let me know! I'm always about input! :D

I think that is a fine system and keeps it simple. If you want to make it slightly more 'numeric' you could ascribe a max weight that the grapnel can carry before it risks breaking. Assuming it can carry 1 full size human male with a bit of equipment, you could say that the hook can carry 200 to 250 lbs. So one big human with little equipment, or a smaller human with a fair amount of equipment or possibly 3 gnomes-sized guys with a bit of equipment. Mind you, having 3 people climb a line at the same time carries other risks. :)

The nice thing about the weight method is you can mix and match... so a light human with no equipment could climb with a single gnome-sized guy.

I'm happy with whichever method you prefer - DM's choice. I'm only suggesting the weight method because you could see massive weight differences if you just go with # of bodies. An unequipped human could weigh 200 lbs. and two gnomes might top out at 100 lbs. So the actual carrying capacity (200 lbs or 100 lbs) of the grapnel would vary greatly. But again - I'll go with whichever method you'd rather use to prevent DM headaches. I DM enough that I know you sometimes just want to keep things simple.

I like the weight limit, lets go with 200lbs. :D

:big thumbs up: I'll note that on my character sheet. :)

I honestly couldn't figure it out. This newfangled technology and all. -.-

Do you need help? I'm happy to give directions if you need them.

EDIT - Here are the steps, if you need them...

Note: If your character is all set under the Muad alias, I'd suggest you copy the data in your edit window before doing the steps below.

1. At the top of your screen below the blue Paizo bar, click "My Account".
2. Look for the "Messageboard Aliases" section.
3. At the bottom of that section, click the link "Create new messageboard alias".
4. Put in your guy's name in the Avatar Name field.
5. Pick a picture by clicking the "change" button next to "Avatar Image" (this part can take forever - way too many pics to sort through but it is fun).
6. When done, click the "Submit Changes" button.
7. In the "Messageboard Aliases" section, click on the character's name.
8. Click the "Click here to create a profile" link.
9. Edit away!
Note: If you copied your data, just paste it in here and you are done.
10. Save it.

DM Azoun:

Some thoughts--is the campaign occurring near said western border? Whether it is or not, Aeldris could have been sent to gather information, allies/cannon fodder, ancient treasures... Perhaps a legendary weapon used in the battle against the drow? (that enough plot hooks for you :P )

As an order of the lion cavalier, Aeldris should have some way of communicating with his lord, whether by periodic letters, visits, or magical means. Some guidance on how my edicts interact with the elven kingdom would be handy.

Will be interested to see how you tie the elf and the elf look-alike together!

On the communication, i've already thought of that. :D But since you asked, your Lord will give you a small silver mirror. Twice a day (Sunrise and Sunset only) it allows you to communicate similiar to message.
