Lady Gaga = Lamashtu?

Music & Audio

Liberty's Edge

This is weird ...

Probably NSFW.

I’d watch it with the sound off, unless you are a fan of Lady Gaga. The song is pretty awful (IMO) but the video is freakywrong, especially the first three minutes or so. Oh and one of Sebastian’s stablemates makes a very left field cameo.

Well...ummm Gee.

Disturbing, and strangely with very little editing on the intro, I could use this in my RotRL's campaign.

Greg.

Dark Archive

Huh. I thought I couldn't be surprised by videos any more but those first few minutes worked. Coolio. However, not impressed with the choreography. And the song's just meh.

Starfinder Charter Superscriber

Disturbing is right... she does mention the 'Mother of Monsters' though, so the thread title is more appropriate than I expected.

Also, I'm impressed (if that's the right word) by how well the makeup team was able to make a fit young woman in her underwear completely unattractive.

Paizo Employee Director of Sales

Love it! Absolutely freaking AWESOME.

The music itself is kinda pedestrian pop clap trap (though good for what it is), but kudos to Lady Gaga for letting her freak flag fly!

Sure, you can look at this as a woman being excessively weird and shocking to get attention... but the simple fact is that it works. She's doing the exact same thing with her career that Marilyn Manson did before her, and Alice Cooper before him. TO me, it looks like she's having a blast, and more power to her, I say.

People compare her to Madonna (and that song does sound exactly like "Express Yourself") musically, and this works. But they often also compare her to Madonna in the shock category, and I don't agree. Madonna was tame, and boring, compared to Lady Gaga. Stylistically, Gaga reminds me more of these guys, if they played mindless pop claptrap.

...and I love these guys (Song lyrics NSFW... because they're awesome).

Totally with you. That made me smile and I'm glad Mothman posted it; the intro made me imagine some 80s scifi/fantasy adventure with puppet aliens everywhere.

Scarab Sages

oh....kay....

The song was sort of a letdown after an awesome intro.

Horrific Extradimensional Births in a "Government-owned Alien Territory in Space"? How could I not enjoy it?

I don't like most of her music, but her persona is kinda cool. Though you could look at it a certain way: highly sexual, somewhat androgynous and fey figure, implications of outer space, and coming to teach us all about love and sex and music?

Spoiler:
She's repackaged Ziggy Stardust for kids who never heard of Bowie.

Well, thanks to a not yet made agreement between youtube and the GEMA, I can´t see the vids here. The last link by cosmo needs a registration before viewing - I hate it when some folks tell me what I can see and what I cannot.

Cosmo is right - I thought that song sounded like Express Yourself.. I wonder if it is a subtle dig at Madonna.

Freaky cool though....

Try "clipfish.de", it seems to be the newest Lady Gaga video.

Did I just advice somebody where to look at the newest Lady Gaga video?
Sighs - I guess I did...
Sorry.
Well, there are some Combichrist videos there as well...

I think she pretty much rips off Madonna and no Lady Gaga is just ugly anyway. To be honest, I just don't get her popularity... Her (such as it is) music is the same processed, monotone tripe over and over again.

Maybe I'm just getting old:P Each to his own I guess...

Yeah, well... I used it mainly to vent my frustration about that castrated version of youtube you get over here, not so much because I was keen on a lady gaga video. Last year, we were in Boston on a holiday trip, and one of the bus drivers for the sightseeing buses couldn´t get some lady gaga song out of his mind, and sang it the whole time, or at least the refrain of it...

Liberty's Edge

That was pretty cool, at least until the music started. I think Lady Gaga is trying to start her own religion.

I think it's cool that she plays the freak. I don't know if all that springs from her own personal genius* or if she's just playing a part dictated to her by her label (though my impression is that the former is cooler and the latter more realistic), but either way I think it's fun.

As far as music goes, even I think this one is generic, and couldn't listen to all of it. I liked Bad Romance.

*this was meant to be slightly tongue-in-cheek, but I couldn't find the sarcasm font

Sovereign Court

Way too creepy for me.

She got her start as a standard Aguilera pop mimic, realized that wouldn't get her very far (not pretty enough), so she tried the b*#%#~# crazy approach and it paid off.

The video is gross by mass media standards. I wonder what the casual fans think of it?

I finally watched the video. Well... the starting sequence is designed to be disturbing without going too far - a well-measured provocation, but then, since biting off chicken heads on stage is frowned upon these days, you need to find something else to get noticed. The music is meh... nothing special, so I didn´t listen to it for more than a few seconds. Maybe I´m getting a bit jaded these days, but it failed to upset me.

Looks a lot like it.

Liberty's Edge

Indeed, certainly a lot of similarity there. It's hard to imagine that whoever did Lady Gaga's video had not seen and been influenced by the other one.

Scarab Sages

"Lady Gaga -- who stole her first name from a Disney cartoon about dogs, her last name from Queen, her wardrobe from Liberace's garage and her career from Madonna -- ..." Author Ray Garton. I took it from his post about this .

Her stuff is nothing new.
Its Baudville.

Alice Cooper kind of stuff..but Alice Cooper was cooler and didn't steal other artists styles.

Lady Gaga is sort of a Madonna/Marylin Manson with a GWAR wardrobe.

Years from now when the Mi-Go invade, we'll look at their signs and portents and go..."crap, we knew this all along...if we would have just not let Gaga get so popular...".

Really, is she our Dr. Breen?

I was more prone to tell that Gaga = Satan, but on a Pathfinder perspective, yes, Lamashtu is quite appropriate.

Guys, she is obviously a puppet of the Illuminati.

Ugh.

(All links SFW, assuming you work in a safe place.)

I had to go watch this to disinfect my brain from that ga-ga-gunk.

Then watch this, to remind me what a sexy lady looks like, when she "shakes and shimmies, making it sexy!"

Then, finally (recovering!) watch this, reminding myself what to expect when folks claim they spent a lot of money on a music video.

I'm better off, all things considered.

AARGH! If I get that "this video is not available in your country" crap one more time, I will get mad!

Stefan

Here's a lovely response, a satirical parody.

Wow, lady gaga has a nice baby-maker.

This is the best song + video combination I have seen in 10 years. I really like it.

My fav parts were the cut away shots to evil-skull lady gaga and skull-boy doing a porno dance.

> God makes no mistakes. <

Edit: >Check this out,< she and Lady Gaga sang together recently.
