Say your holding 2 rods for casting
can your familiar spend a full round action to pull another rod from your bag , hold it out for you so you can swap rods as a free or swift and then put the swapeed out rod back in your bag for you ?
basically letting you use any rod/wand you carry without spending actions on drawing ?
or is the best you can do
drop rod/wand
handy haversack grab new one
and order familiar to pickup dropped rod/wand and return to bag

I just can't see a hawk or owl having the dexterity to root around in your pack or pouch and hand off a wand or rod - then put the other one back in. I guess it's possible :\
I could though see one swoop down to grab it and then drop it into your square. I remember once I was on a cliff and was disarmed of a wand that fell onto the beach below.
I ordered my Hawk familiar to retrieve it and 2 rounds later :-)
But that was a wand not a rod. I always though rods more like cudgels.
If you took Improved Familiar you could choose:
- Arbiter (Inevitable) - A sphere of bronze and copper set with a single eye, this winged creature has two clawed hands, one of which clutches a knife.
- Azata, Lyrakien - This tiny woman has a lithe form with delicate butterfly wings. She is surrounded by sparkling lights and gentle rainbow arcs.
- Brownie - Knee-high to a human, this large-headed creature has an almost manically friendly look on its expressive face.
- Dragon, Faerie - A pair of brightly colored butterfly wings sprouts from the back of this miniature dragon. A mischievous smile plays across its fanged snout as it flutters about with incredible grace.
- Homunculus - This vaguely humanoid creature is about the size of a cat but looks more like a toothy, winged devil.
- Imp - Fiendish wings and a whipping scorpion-like tail lash behind this diminutive, red-skinned nuisance.
- Mephit (one that doesn't burn!) - This small humanoid creature has thin, leathery wings, small horns, and a mischievous smile.
- Pseudodragon - This housecat-sized miniature dragon has fine scales, sharp horns, wicked little teeth, and a tail tipped with a barbed stinger.
- Quasit - Ram horns curl back from the twisted head of this tiny winged demon, and its body is thin and wiry.
BUT I'm not sure that all these Tiny familiars can really handle a Rod:
Physical Description: Rods weigh approximately 5 pounds. They range from 2 feet to 3 feet long and are usually made of iron or some other metal. (Many, as noted in their descriptions, can function as light maces or clubs due to their hardy construction.) These sturdy items have AC 9, 10 hit points, hardness 10, and a break DC of 27.
To me that's just too large for a Tiny familiar, right?
Aren't you better just getting a Haversack, a Bag of Holding, or Efficient Quiver?
