Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I just recently purchased the Pathfinder core rulebook, and the PDF adventure Rise of the Runelords: Burnt Offerings.

So far I am very happy with what I am reading, this could end up being my groups main RPG game system for a while.

My question is this, what book should I buy to get more info on the world described in Runelords Adventure Path? The Lost Coast and Sandpoint? Is there a world book that gives more detail about other cities near Sandpoint?

Shadow Lodge

Well, a few books come to mind. The PF Campaign Setting (out of print and 3.5) is a good source of random info on the world. The Quadira Guide, and maybe a few other "faction" guides.

Alteratively, you can download the Legacy of Fire Players Guide for free, I believe, in PDF form.

From what I understand, all the Adventure Paths are pretty self container, so you really don't need any more, though I would suggest "Gods and Magic" and also "The Great Beyond" in general.

Actually, there are two books you could go after.

There's the Inner Sea Primer, which is, erm, a primer aimed at players. It contains basic information about the world of Golarion.

Coming next month is the revised campaign setting book, World Guide: Inner Sea. Bear in mind that most of it will be GM-oriented.

Second the Primer and World Guide suggestions - they will be the best overall sources of information about the world of Golarion.

You could also take a gander at PathfinderWiki as well.

The PDF Player's Guides for all of our Adventure Paths are free sources of world info.

Also, check the blog on Thursdays, where more world information is revealed.

Moving this to a more appropriate forum as well.

Thanks for the info...and the cookies :-)

As mentioned, a solid to start is going to be the free pdf of the Player's Guide to the Rise of the Runelords AP here.

The RotRL forum can be found here of course for advice, tips, and loads of fan-created additional material for the AP.

"Pathfinder Chronicles: Guide to Korvosa" is a guide for one of the largest cities not too far from Sandpoint (Magnimar is a lot closer but smaller) in case your interested. Part 2 of the AP will have more info on the city of Magnimar. Usually the APs are pretty good about providing additional detail for the setting, religions, monsters, etc. all related to that AP. So some of your best info can be found in the AP materials.

Welcome to Pathfinder and enjoy RotRL!

Does this book describe the Lost Coast: Pathfinder Chronicles: Campaign Setting

I'd actually vote against Inner Sea Primer. It does have a little basic info on the world, but about 95% of it is just a rehash of other books, and most of it is very generic and basic. Most you could get for free from the various Player's Guides for the Adventure Paths. But it really is a matter of opinion and tastes.

Unfortunately (as far as I know anyways) there isn't a single book dedicated to the area around Sandpoint, like there is for Darkmoon Vale (the area around Falcon's Hollow, another small town with a lot of adventure potential). This has actually been something that's bugged me about the Runelord AP.

There is a decent amount of info scattered throughout the AP itself, in the support articles in each issue, but I would rather have a single source. Going through half a dozen PDFs, trying to remember what bit of info was in which article, and which article was in which book...makes it a lot more of a pain than I think it should be...

Also, giving you even more books to search through, the second AP, Curse of the Crimson Throne, takes place in Varissia also. I haven't read through it as well as I have RotRl, but I think there might be some info worth looking at there as well. Second Darkness at least partially takes place in the area...I know this one even less, and don't want to give away any accidental spoilers...but that might be another resource.

Is there a complete map of Golarion somewhere?
Does the map show where Varissia is and where Sandpoint is?
I want to get my bearings on where the adventures are taking place in relation to the rest of the world so that as the players venture out it will make sense to all of us as to what cities or locales they explore.

There is a rough world map of Golarion in this blog post. In the discussion thread, somebody did an overlay map of the Inner Sea and the rest of the world.

The recently released "Inner Sea Map Folio" does indeed show the location of Sandpoint and Varisia.

Is there a Golarion world book in the works to give us all that wonderful detail that we so desperately crave?

Not in its entirety, no...but this book, releasing in March, will cover the Inner Sea, where the majority of our published material has taken place.

The Paizo crew have focused mainly on the Inner Sea Region of Golarion. This is what will be covered in depth in the next month's hardcover release for the Pathfinder Campaign Setting.

They offer maps of the inner sea region for community use: here.

There's a map pack for the Rise of the Runelords campaign: here

EDIT: ninja'd, somewhat. The adventure path being released this August will begin a trek to one of the other continents in Golarion, so there will be some new info on other locales then. Specifically on the Tian Xia area.
