It's called camouflage. Animals have to be pretty crafty if they want to avoid inebriated Wisconsin hunters.

At first, I thought that said "inbred Wisconsin hunters", but that probably also works.

I played a thri-kreen ranger once. I swapped between both their ranged and marital and jumped around a lot. a lot of fun. I also ran for a min maxed Thri-Kreen. 3.5 some sort of battle dancer. 16 attacks while dancing circles around minions.. less fun. easy to counter tho.
I miss Thri-kreen, Mindflayers and beholders in pathfinder.

I do not miss mind flayers and beholders, only thri-kreen.

Thri-kreen: Only time I ever played with one, the player was a piece of s&%*. He was the GM's stepson, and every game he would bring a new "Best Character Ever!" to the table, and as soon as he failed any roll (attack, save, skill check, didn't get highest initiative in the party, etc...), he would declare that the character sucked, that race/class was dumb, and suicide it. So my feelings toward them are not good, but heavily biased by the player.
Mind Flayers: Never dealt with them too much except for when my brother made a character specifically designed to kill mind flayers, and then bullied the GM into having us fight some. My brother obviously destroyed them while we all just had to sit back and watch. He then proceeded to gloat about it for weeks. So, not a great experience there either.
Beholders: Only faced them in one campaign. First one, we managed to sneak up on it and the patrol of Drow it was with. It had it's central eye closed so that it wouldn't interfere with the Drow's stuff, so from cover I cast Blindness on it. It failed the save, and instantly went berserk, blasting random rays around randomly. That scared the Drow off, and after it eventually tired itself out, we managed to (from a distance) convince it to surrender. We covered all of it's eyes with canvas sacks, including the central one which we threatened to Sovereign Glue shut if it tried anything funny, tied a rope around it, and led it back to and through the city like a giant balloon. Dropped it off at the temple that had a 12-step program to help evil monsters become productive members of society.
A few months later (I think a year or so had passed in-game), we came across another one. It was facing away from us, and since it had worked once I tried casting Blindness on it. It failed the save, went berserk, then started sobbing. Turned out it was the same one, but had "fallen off the wagon" so to speak. Locked it in a room, came back, covered all the eyes, led it on a leash back to the temple.
Fast forward another 6 months or so in-game, and we see a third beholder. I ask the GM "Is this that same one again?" He sighed and said "Yeah." So I just stepped out from cover and yelled at it "HEY! Do I gotta blind you a third time?" It got real scared and took the cultists or whatever it was working with prisoner for us. We tied them all up, hitched him to a wagon in the cultist lair, and sent them back to the city with A) a threat to kill him next time, and B) a promise of gainful employment should he not screw us over. Unfortunately, the group broke up before we could find out if he actually kept his word or not.
So, I like beholders.

That beholder story is the best. I like that DM.
Unfortunately that was one of the few good times with him. Typically as both GM and player, he was a real pain in the ass. He's also the reason the group I was in for my first attempt at playing Kingmaker nearly broke up. He, as a player, became so argumentative that the GM quit gaming for 6 months, another player left the group, we obviously kicked the problem player out, and it was down to me and 2 other guys (one of whom was trying to play over Skype because he moved to Seattle) for a while. Eventually things got better, though.
Also, over a year after we booted his ass, he sent an email to everyone in the group basically saying he was "willing to forgive us and start the campaign up again" as long as we were "willing to be reasonable". I marked his address as spam and deleted it. Others were more active in their refusal.

I have informed him that he is an idiot, but he's still my friend.
Speaking as someone who worked a half dozen jobs at places where my SO, Wife, Friend, or Family were also employed (circumstances vary with them or I being recruited to work there) I just want to mention that NONE of these situations worked out well for one reason or another, mainly because establishing a workplace relationship on top of an existing friendship/familial one literally never worked for more than a handful of weeks. Either you start "taking work home with you" or the workplace ends up tainted by the existing relationship had between them, typically in a quite unprofessional manner. I permanently lost one friend this way and decided that I am NEVER working for or with family (for a job/career) ever again.
Bear in mind half of these were service jobs but it never EVER worked out well for me so if I might be so insistent I might say that them getting a counteroffer from their current workplace is actually a silver lining for your friendship.

I have been shown.
Impus Major texted that he'd be home between noon and 1:00 pm. I managed to resist the urge to text back, "Hah!" and instead decided to give him grief when he got home.
At 12:57 pm, I brought up Paizo to post about it.
At 12:58 pm, he walked in the door.
I've never seen him be that punctual before.

The second round of checks was far more satisfying because we didn't get anything, as is appropriate.
This afternoon I *just* looked at the requirements for the third check and our gross income is well above the limit to receive anything. I was happy.
And yet I signed into my bank and there's a child tax credit deposit from the IRS.
Seriously?!?!?
GothBard was talking about it with her co-workers (apparently many of them also had the same "problem") and they came up with a nice solution: Immediately spend the money locally to support local businesses and workers. Sounds like we're going out to dinner a couple of times this week!

NobodysHome wrote:** spoiler omitted **Don't spend anything the government accidentally sends you, they'll notice it eventually and then make you repay it.
I think I figured it out. While we don't qualify for anything extra, Impus Minor still gets us the base $2000. I think they're just sending us that, split up over 12 months.
More money now, less money come tax time.

![]() |

You probably make some figure under the cut-off cap, I say spend it. Clearly, that money is better spent going back into the circulating economy than otherwise.
If you have reason to believe your income IS too high to qualify... yeah, make some phonecalls because you don't want heat for accepting or spending money that they gave you by mistake.

In this specific case I respectfully disagree.
We met and worked together at my old (his still current) employer and developed a friendship out of that working relationship. We've already figured out how to keep the work/personal separate.
Secondly, the current employer has caused more pain and suffering in the IT Dept than I ever previously detailed here. Anxiety issues, depression, excessive drinking (at least two turned into full alcoholism), a couple wrecked marriages...this company has chewed on the corpses of IT Professionals for years. I can't say I got out completely unscathed myself.
No, I don't lay 100% blame for all of that on my former employer, but they sure as hell not only don't help but they also don't listen when they're told someone is having serious problems either. And then they invariably make it worse by completely not caring.

Nah, we’re way over the cutoff for the extra $1000. I just hadn’t realized they were going to be sending out the base child tax credit as well. But it all adds up. $300/month per child does indeed add up to the $3600 total for young kids if you were to do it over the whole 12 months, not the $1600 extra. So I’ll owe an extra $1000 come April. I can plan for that.
EDIT: The thing that really bothers me about such tax shenanigans is just how much they can hurt the people they're supposedly helping. Someone has two kids under 5 (I forget the cutoff ages) and gets $600/month from the IRS for the next 6 months, without asking for it. Tax time comes around. "Oh, that $7200 in child tax credit you were counting on? We already sent half of it to you. So instead of the $1000 refund you were hoping for this year you owe us $2600!"
Pretty messed up. I'm hoping there's some kind of tax forgiveness built in, but I doubt it.
EDIT 2: I read through it and you're getting paid half of your child tax credit up front, and take the other half at tax time. Not convoluted or confusing or anything...

I only have two friends I can think of that don't come from those two categories.

When I worked at other places and started out an idea with "when I was in Seattle, we'd do this" and then watch their eyes gloss over and they dismissed it.
When I say that here everyone gets super excited and says "f!+~ yes, let's do it!"
Respect is an incredible motivational tool, just saying.

My brothers are going on their annual camping trip/bicker fest this next week.
This year, they're going to the Boundary Waters (even though it's been fifteen years since they last went) and it sounds like they're already bickering, and they haven't left yet.
Of course they're now all diabetic, out of shape, and overweight. So the odds aren't in their favor.

I am confused. I came in tonight, and 2nd shift (a fairly new employee) said "Hey, I did you a big favor and got all the laundry washed and dried. I don't know how to fold it, so I didn't do that." Now, my first thought was "That isn't a favor, it's your job", but I wanted to encourage him to keep doing it so I said "Great! Tell you what. Let me go take a piss, get changed, clock in, and then I'll show you how to fold some of it real quick." He said "Great". So I go do what I said I was going to do, come back to the desk, and he isn't there. I though maybe he had to go take some towels or something to a guest, but the phone is there, the keys are there, everything is there except him. My next thought was that maybe he slipped into the bathroom while I was clocking in and he would be right back. But nope. It's been over 90 minutes and I haven't seen him. I can only assume that when I went to the bathroom, he clocked out and left. Which is no bueno.

I can navigate a city with a map (we are speaking a "I am in this town for two days already, I'll take a map, and go sightseeing, I can get back have a dinner, and go sleep if when I manage to find my way back home" - I went much more to the west than south than I intended). I don't think I'd handle navigating on the road, though, as I tend to phase out to avoid motion sickness.

gran, sounds like a few former co-'workers'. They'd make a huge deal out of doing some small aspect of the job. They'd then leave our section of the store a complete mess because cleaning was 'woman's work'. Be sure to check punches if hourly punch clock. They'd also 'forget' to clock out and then were... let's say 'temporally challenged' time travellers...

Time clock is electronic, basically a tablet you use your ID number to access. I can't check his hours if I even wanted to. I just find it very strange that he left before I was clocked in and ready to take over. If he didn't have time for me to show him how to fold stuff, or just didn't want to, all he had to do is say "I gotta go now, maybe next time" and I'd be fine with that. But just disappearing? That's not right.
And "women's work"? Someone seriously said that? If they said it to me, I'd roll my eyes right in their face and be sure to let all the other coworkers and management know that they're a piece of s@~~ who should probably be fired.
