Oh, yeah. The medical community deserves a lot of the blame. Their initial, "Don't wear a mask because it won't help you," followed up by, "Never mind, please wear a mask because it protects other people," is a strong arguing point for the whole anti-mask movement.
at least around here the medical community was very forward about the types of masks that would be helpful versus those that wouldnt, and then immediately regretted it when they all faced shortages due to people ordering those masks for private use.

Exactly. A birthday is not a celebration of age. It is a celebration of survival!
Happy Birthday, Tacticslion!

My birthdays have always been non-events. When I was a kid, my mom would make a cake, and I would get to choose what I had for dinner. Sometimes my grandmother would visit.
I have still never had a birthday party in my life. I’ve participated in other people’s (and thrown a few), so I get the general idea.

I expect nothing less.
This is giving me merry flashbacks of my bachelor night.

I truly wish I had more money that night. There were not enough pelvic thrusts in your general direction.

Today he got the results and he's good. No COVID.
*PHEW*
glad you dodged that bullet.
We have had similar scares (my step-son's father carpool buddy had been exposed - both confirmed negative). Several friends who are HC workers have had co-workers confirm positive (no surprise, but so far all our friends are still testing negative).
I think I am up to 10 people I know who have confirmed positive. One death, although as I think I said here before...she was 95 or so.
stay safe. be smart. wash hands. wear your mask.
Yeah, when I called in to get the warranty repair job on the fridge, I had the typical "conversation with a Texan about the virus". "Oh, no; I won't wear a mask. They're too uncomfortable, and it's too hot around here. And I'm healthy, so I don't have to worry. But I really feel bad for all the people with compromised immune systems who can't leave their homes."
Er... yeah.
If you weren't so d***ed selfish to refuse to put up with a little discomfort to help them out, then maybe they could leave their homes. Heck, if we'd all pulled together and just listened to the doctors we'd likely be in decline right now instead of in a second surge.
*SIGH*
[/tirade]
EDIT: And while I realize that at this point the most logical course of action for the U.S. is to just continue slowly re-opening and allowing the virus to run its course through our population (it's become obvious we can't handle anything requiring any more personal responsibility on the part of our populace), considering that Houston is already near or at capacity and Southern California is already sending ICU patients to Northern California for treatment, that...
You can take off the mildly for this one.
So to preface My SO volunteers at the zoo and our county or at least the one the zoo is in finally passed a required mask law for businesses. So the Zoo requires the masks now. Apparently people were complaining and talking about boycotting the Zoo for requiring masks. I just full on am sick of these people. The whole south just full of complete idiots.

My understanding with the mask thing is that they weren't sure they would have a mask for medical professionals so they didn't want everyone to go out and buy them out before they could secure them for doctors and nurses. Sounds reasonable to me.

Is it possible to wear contacts if you need bifocals?
Not being able to wear my glasses all day in the classroom because they constantly fog from my mask is giving me eyestrain.
They have the "continuous correction" thingy for contacts just like they do for glasses, but I don't know how well they work; my optometrist made me get a pair of glasses that had it and I hated them.
But yes, there are contacts that have variable correction, according to what I've heard.

They also have straight-up bifocal contacts as well.
I have the "blended" or "continuous correction" glasses, and they are wonderful for me. Aiymi has them and hates them. What we've found is that if the frames bend outside of perfect alignment the lenses not only can't work correctly, but they are almost a detriment at that point.

Yeah, my issue is that I'm a "terrific slouch". Whether working, driving, or relaxing, I am always leaning WAY back, preferably with my feet up. So I'm eternally looking through the very bottom of my glasses, leading to the least correction. Which doesn't work for computer work nor driving, which is almost all I do.
Thus, I hate them.

What I learned from Far Cry 5.
1) If you hold on to dynamite too long you'll blow up.
2) Do not throw grenades at bears
3) Do not shoot bears in the face with a pistol
4) And especially, Do not hit a bear in the face with a shovel.
My dad learned that, when being grappled by a grizzly and you have a 38 on your hip and a garden hose in your hand, putting your thumb over the end of the hose and aiming at the bear's eye works.

So... the neighbors across the street just invited me to a "Covidchella music festival", where we're somehow not going to become a viral hotspot because everyone who shows up will obey, "Please come by with your finest mask and distance."
I feel that responding, "Masks don't prevent stupid," would be considered rude...
"Oh, I can't get him to wear a mask! He doesn't like it!"
"Oh, I can't make her practice social distancing! She's a hugger!"
Pretty much every parent in the neighborhood refuses to practice even basic parenting skills ("Please cough into your elbow, dear"), so even on our walks it's a constant effort to cross the street before we cross paths with the unprotected, uneducated, "I cough and sneeze and wipe my nose with my hands and touch everything around me because my parents didn't have the energy to teach me any better," kids who are appallingly prevalent in this neighborhood.
Yes, there are a few good kids who prove it can be done. This morning on my way to the store there were two four-year-old girls in masks who saw me and promptly moved across the sidewalk to give me as much distance as humanly possible.
But the neighborhood kids? Nope. They're little virus vectors, so I don't particularly feel like putting myself at risk for whatever they happen to be carrying tomorrow (Covid or other) just to be sociable.
EDIT: To be clear, I expect parents to try, not automatically succeed. If your kid coughs without covering their mouth and I hear you say, "Cover your mouth when you cough, Dear," then at least I know you're trying. If you just let the kid spew germs into the atmosphere without a word, I get judgy.

Honestly, I don't know anyone's eye color, except mine (and from that I can probably guess my mother's eyes)... And I think I remember color of the eyes of woman I loved for almost ten years... I would not bet my life on that, though.
