I'm starting a petition to change our official state slogan from "Don't Mess with Texas" to "We ain't Florida, but we're fixin' to beat 'em".
Exhibit: this little news item from Austin. SMH not just for the content, or even the quoted police report stating that the ranger "could have drowned to death", but also for the reporter referring to the man as having become "fully emerged in the water".
Oh, c'mon! The BEST quote is, "Caused the Ranger to strike his head on the dock as he was falling, and render himself unconscious..."
Render is an active verb, so apparently he decided to become unconscious.
The whole sentence reads like that. "Well, the Ranger was fed up, so he struck his head on the dock and rendered himself unconscious."
"That'll learn 'em," he was heard to mutter as he slipped under the surface...
EDIT: I seem to have rendered myself naked...

Um,... Where?
<Hastily starts searching Ubisoft on Google>
You need Ubiosoft account (*sigh* another one after Steam and GoG, but I already had one because of Far Cry 3-4 anyway), install the client, and once within the client click on Free Games and they should be at the top (at least they were there for me) and add them to your games.

I'm still sulking over being referred to as a "Californian", even if as a former one. Even though I spent over half my life there, it never felt like my home.
Yes, Cap is technically the only Wisconsinite. I left 32 years ago, have only been back once, and hated seeing what my hometown had become. Or maybe always had been, and it was simply the difference between viewing it as a child and as an adult. No desire to go back. Ever.
Not a Floridian. I was so happy when I finally sold my Dad's house and got the real estate agent to ship me the last of his belongings, without actually having to go back there myself.
And even though I'm a naturalized Texan, I don't feel like I belong here, either.
I'm left with the uncomfortable feeling that I don't really know how to belong much of anywhere. It could just be being massively socially awkward and either trying too hard, or burying myself in work and blowing off trying at all. Or maybe I'm just a contrary a******.
sounds like a New Yorker to me!

Well, since Woran is talking about launching us into space and all...
I'm really coming to the opinion that as of November, the United States will STILL be suffering hundreds (if not thousands) of deaths a day from the coronavirus, it will be the *only* country in the world where the virus is still uncontrolled, the election will come around...
...and there will still be people who vote for the incumbent because of his "excellent job" managing the virus.

And demanding that any remaining lockdown be rescinded and we "get the country back to work!" at the cost of any "necessary" deaths.
So basically, just like what's happening now, just after more dead people.

Start planning now for how you're going to safely cast your vote.
One thing to watch: the resilience of Black communities when white folks try to disenfranchise them Tricks like closing all but 3 polling places in a county, removing people from voter registration rolls, making people stand outside in cold weather for hours just to cast their vote.
But people vote. In unexpectedly high numbers.
I'm not willing to risk my life to increase feral capitalists' profits, but I'm not going to let that risk stop me from voting, no matter how dangerous it is.
People's lives depend on me trying to elect folks who care about American society more than they care about the American economy.

Maybe it's a California thing, or maybe it's an "old man NobodysHome" thing, but when I started traveling for a living I registered to vote by mail. They've kept me that way ever since then. Then they switched GothBard over to it. I registered Impus Major, and he cast his first vote... by mail.
So maybe voting by mail is just a lot easier in California, but all of us just kind of fell into it by accident.
EDIT: On the other hand, it's California. I can already tell you who's going to win every single slot on the statewide ballot before I even vote.

Just remember, "self-deprecating" is fine (to a point). Just try to avoid "self-defecating" and "self-defenestrating".

I had a call a few minutes ago from someone wanting to know if our pool was open. I thought to myself "You're not supposed to be travelling, or indeed out of your house, unless it's absolutely necessary. If you are concerned about a hotel's pool being open, you're likely travelling for pleasure. Stop it." What I said to them was simply "This entire hotel is closed due to the coronavirus. You'll have to try someone else."
I'm pretty sure all hotel pools are closed by order of the state, but maybe I'm confusing that with a county ordinance.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they all still are the only exceptions might be non corporation ran hotels that are breaking rules. I've been getting the same questions that and asked about our breakfast buffet which we of course are also not doing.

In Washington (the state) they send everyone an absentee ballot automatically. You can vote in person on election day, but everyone looks at you weird.
It's just one of the MANY ways they've set up to out the people that didn't grow up there.
"You're not from around here, are you?" Is the answer I heard most.

Voting seems like politics.
I am a split resident. I work in NC, but maintain a residence in KY as well (the family farm). I vote in KY. It is primarily a democratic county. I am registered independent. My mom has run for office as a republican.
I can't remember how many times (it is frequent) my request for an absentee ballot came in 'just a few days too late' or when they did get me a ballot, how many times I submitted it 'after the deadline.'
I now am a big fan of voting in person early. Or, if I know I will be in state on election day, voting in person.
It is not just the republicans that do voter suppression.
