I've never been ice skating. I wanted to try but I'm no good on skates of any kind.
Little anecdotal story:
When I was like 6-8 area I tried to walk on ice but it wasn't thick enough and I fail threw the ice. My brother ran for help. I was in the water holding on to the edge for what felt like forever but couldn't of been more then a few minutes until my grandpa came and pulled me right out. Now I can relate heavily to that Metallica song "trapped under ice".

Man I want to hang out here, more. Seventeen days? Tsk.

Evil is what I did to Tsuto. Written as a 2/2 monk/rogue, I decided that he was affected by his mother's death that he has a level of wave oracle, and he can see through fogs and mists. Great. Then I kept one level of monk. Then I gave him 3 levels of ninja. And flurry of stars.
Dropped Aiymi's paladin before she could act. Not dead, but dropped.
This is for my "hard mode" RotRL campaign with Aiymi, and she actually *enjoys* it when I do this kind of stuff to her.

She's still not retired. She's still in this office. We will never close for anything.

Oh, see, here's where you went wrong: You think she might care.
She's just a genuinely awful human being.
Dumb, because hiring lawyers to deal with this sort of thing costs a lot of money, and if negligence can be proven, the payout is huge. Penny wise, pounds foolish.
I don't expect her to care as a human being but I thought the hit on the company finances might make her take heed.
Yeah, I know, but she's not great at long-term vision, and all she learned from the last time we closed the office was "That cost us too much money! Never again!" The National Guard were closing the bridges to get out of town. We *had* to leave. She argued with them anyway.
And she hasn't allowed the office to be closed since. Even on days she couldn't make it in, she ordered the office to remain open.

He ran into the office with a box in his hands. He goes to set the box down on his desk. In so doing, he bends down and slams his face into his overhead storage bin.
It's very hard to be a good boss and show concern when I'm pointing and laughing.

Ahhhh, the joys of growing older.
I'm 51. Not only is my house overflowing with crap I will never again use, but I'm paying $217 a month for a garage-sized storage space to store MORE crap I will never again use.
So during my lunch breaks I've taken to choosing several items and throwing them out, sight unseen from GothBard or the kids, since they may have odd attachments to some things. Today I threw out "Demigod", the first game Impus Major ever purchased with his own money. It came with no instructions, no tutorial, a leaflet that basically said, "If you need instructions at all you're not hardcore enough for this game," and a game so buggy it crashed every 3-4 minutes so you couldn't possibly even figure out how to play.
Yet I'm sure if Impus Major or GothBard saw me throwing it out, they'd say, "Noooooooo! It brings back such memories!"
No deal.
My hope is to hit 80 wearing nothing but a grass skirt and a coconut bra, with no other possessions in the world...

*SIGH*.
And this is why I can't throw away nice things.
Impus Minor got home, saw Demigod on the driveway, and brought it in. "Oh, I remember this being a really terrible game and me not understanding it, and I've always wanted to get back to it and try to understand it."
So he's now installing it on his machine.

Good news and bad news (and a "Meh"):
Good - I got a live group together!! First time in over two years I'll be playing live! We did a session zero yesterday for Skull and Shackles.
Meh - It's Pathfinder. I mean, at least it's not D&D. I would've preferred to go with something less traditional, but they're 3 new players (two never played, and 1 has been over 10 years), so you go with the archetypical. I drew the line at D&D though. I'm NOT doing D&D, player or GM.
Bad - I have to be the one GMing, because none of them have played. Despite the advanced learning curve compared to 5e, they seem to like the myriad of options compared to 5e, which is much more focused.
L5R group continues online Friday.

Bleh skulls and shackles. Don't like being a pirate. I genuinely want to try to do the right thing. And I'm not idealistic enough to say I want and will do the right thing because I know my judgement can be questionable at times. And sometimes matters aren't as clear cut as they seem.
As I said, I like playing the hero when doing this sort of thing, though I generally do it as a Knight in sour armor.
Life's been giving me lemons.

Yep. That's the one. This is our experience: "If you're interested in throwing down cash for a beta and maybe getting in some practice before things get smoothed out, go ahead and bump that score up a letter grade. Anybody else should find something else to do until then."
And heck if I'm helping Impus Minor play it -- I was trying to throw it out!

Fortunes be praised, we finally ended our pre-gempuku scenario. The Otomo-princess (niece of the Emperor) was saved from jaws of rabid Lions and could grace our gempuku ceremony with her Imperial presence. Or rather, we were deeply honored to have our gempuku at the same time as hers. Next session 2 years later and 30 xp more...
Why is that in every edition 30 xp is not enough, though?

I had amazing fun playing a NG life oracle in Skull & Shackles. She went around stabilizing fallen foes, arguing against attacking merchant ships in favor of far-less-profitable slavers, and was a general thorn in the captain's side for the entire campaign.
On the other hand, she was an amazing healer, and he got a reputation for never harming anyone who just surrendered and handed over their gold (but brutally murdering anyone who fought back, as the crit-build dual-wielding ranger never just knocked an enemy to negatives), so she cheerfully and cluelessly sailed along with them, thinking that "piracy" was just sailing up to other ships and having them surrender and hand over their gold.

I already have to be a good guy in life because when I break the rules, society punishes me if I'm caught. Also because hurting real people feels ethically and morally wrong to me intrinsically.
Fake people, however? Psh. They don't have genuine feelings. Let your inner sociopath roll!
I dunno. I love pretending to be vastly different persons than my genuine self. I used to adore acting on stage for that very reason. (I still would probably enjoy it, but haven't done it in a few years.) That's why my favorite characters tend to be Lawful Evil. It's such a tough concept to play right. Neutral Evil is a close second, because I enjoy "bad guy who can play well with the good guys as long as it's in his ultimate interest" stories, as well.
That being said, even when I'm RPing, I'm not myself being that person. I'm writing them in a first person perspective immediately. Do you feel bad making a villain when writing a book? Because that's exactly how I viewed my antipaladin half-orc, Gutter (a mononym - he refused to share his real name with anyone) as a player in Skull and Shackles. He viciously tortured victims, sliced open enemies, and ran his crew with an iron fist, and fear only a supernaturally powered knight can convey.
Evil characters can still be great characters. Batman is interesting, but everyone remembers Heath Ledger as Joker more than Christian Bale as Batman, even though he did three movies.
If I made every character based upon myself, they'd be pretty damn repetitive.

They Ikoma and Matsu who were overseeing the kidnapping died in the process.
The princess was supposed to visit our province and share gempuku with us, but the Lions deliberately were delaying here. Initially they used fully courtly methods of having Ikoma bard keeping invite her to various events in a village on their side of the border (which happens to be a big river). One of our characters, Bayushi courtier was part of the princess retinue returning home after her service as a lady-in-waiting and she warned the daimyo of the Lions' ploy. We were sent to interfere and our more social members were capable of (a) convincing the princess' older chaperon to accept our invitation over the new invitation issued by the Lions and (b) incite Ikoma into shaming himself in front of the princess, which led him to order his men to seize the princess and take her to the nearby Lion castle by force.
At the same time I reached the princess escort commander (old Seppun warrior), temporarily knocked out with poppy syrup by Lion's servants (he suffered painful wound to his knee earlier that day in a sparring with Matsu, he was healed by Lion shugenja who was summoned specifically for that, but they still managed to overdose him to keep him sedated). I used my wondrous medicine skills to wake him up and lead him to the princess. The rest of the group managed to lead the princess out of the room where fighting flared and knock out Ikoma. Seppun-sama dealt quickly with Matsu and the fight soon ended before Lions' ronins that were stationed nearby arrived.
Ikoma was immediately executed by Seppun-sama to save Lions from excessive disgrace and the princess came to our side of the river and we could hurry for the planned gempuku.

I really can't play evil characters for any long stretch of time. Mercenary types, drunken sots, sure. But evil...? Kicking kittens and puppies? Torturing others?
It gives me this sick feeling inside. I can't betray or backstab my party members. I can't run to save myself and leave my party behind. Its like hard coded into my programming. Obviously I get very pissed off when that happens to me.

No; I'm on Mort's side here. I deeply identify with my PCs. Trying to play an evil one just sickens me.
It's definitely a different mental state for me when I'm running a PC vs. an NPC. I ran the Graul homestead and took great joy in doing so. If someone told me I could play Mammy Graul for a day I couldn't do it; I'd get psychologically if not physically ill at the thought of it.
When I'm at the table, playing my character, I'm actually thinking what my character thinks. People say I'm an amazing roleplayer. I feel like I'm just channeling my PC.
I can't do that with evil characters.

The Vagrant Erudite |

I think what my character thinks, too, but it's a detached thing. To me it's just first-person narration. I guess it's because I always considered it more writing than being. I'm one of the most active, if not the most active, roleplayer in almost any group I'm in. I just don't internalize it that much.
When the mask comes off, the mask is off. I didn't do any of that. Gutter did. I was playing Gutter. And it was fun being Gutter for a while, but now he's gone.
