After seeing cap'ns hair I suspected he was a metal head.

Heavy metal! top 5 bands go!

1) Linkin Park(though metal purists may argue they're not metal enough)

2) Evanescence (though metal purists may argue they're not metal enough)
3) Manowar
4) Bon Jovi (though metal purists may argue they're not metal enough, also I didn't realise it was a band)
5) Clawfinger

Definitely NOT heavy metal, try again.

Wikipedia is useless when it comes to labels for what genre a band is.

Well Manowar I would say is heavy metal. I haven't listened to clawfinger yet.
I've never heard of Manowar.

Wow really? huh. Well For me some of there songs are hit or miss but I do really like the ones I like. I would start with "Brothers of metal", or "die for metal".

Mostly grunge and punk to be honest.

80's or 90's punk? I feel there is a big difference between the 2.

Both.

I think the main difference is 80s punk was from everywhere, whereas 90s punk was almost exclusively from California.

Sounds about right. I prefer 80's more but I'm not opposed to 90's. Really there isn't to much music I'm opposed to... country but there is still some country songs I like.

The Exchange

The Norwegians(aka Vikings) introduced me to that one.

Battle Hymns

Yeah that's a good one too.

I actually do like country but I don't ever do jazz or blues. Not my thing.

I guess at the end of the day I like fast paced rhythmic songs.

I have to be in the right mood for jazz or blues but its for sure not my go to.

I prefer ninties punk, Bad Religion (technically from both 80s and 90s) and Rancid being my two favorite.

The thing about Manowar is they are there own biggest promoters. like half of there songs are about how metal they are. Almost as if they are insecure that they are not metal enough. The other half is about Norse gods.

I prefer Val Hallen. He's always ready to Ragna-Rock-and-Roll.

The "Shining" mix a fusion of metal and jazz, provided you don't mistake the Norwegian 'Shining' with the Swedish 'Shining' that is more black metal than fusion-avant-garde metal.

I think its the most USA thing Ive ever seen. Next to deep fried butter of course.

My understanding is that deep frying things like that actually started in Scotland, with the deep fried Mars bar. However, my source is Scottish, and he actually started a blog where he deep-fried a different junk food every fortnight and reviewed it, so he might be a bit biased.

Interesting pub trivia, but did you know that Netflix was sued over that description? Apparently, "Choose your own adventure" is a trademark, and its owner took legal action over it being used without their permission.

Dark Archive

I tend to be fairly eclectic on the auld tunes, but if I had to pick a favourite genre, it would probably be symphonic metal. Just speaks to my soul.

I'm all over the place with music, you don't have over 5,100 songs on your iTunes by sticking with genres.

Shiro was curious about that and checked it out, and it's a LOT more insidious.

Netflix originally approached the people who owned the rights to the "choose your own adventure" genre with the idea of doing a TV show based on that. Then Netflix dropped that project. Then they released Bandersnatch.

From what Shiro was able to learn, it really looks like a slam-dunk for the plaintiffs.

But of course, this is U.S. law, so who knows what will actually happen?

(1) Sabaton
(2) Alestorm/Gloryhammer (they're technically two separate bands, but really?)
(3) Battle Beast
(4) Some Nightwish. They produce some amazing songs; including several of my all-time favorites. And they produce some true dreck. They're my favorite example of why it's much better to add additional songs than entire albums
(5) The Scorpions. Because silly Germans singing lyrics they don't seem to understand

I love Evanescence, but anyone calling them "metal" really doesn't understand what "metal" is. (Some might argue that I'm guilty of the same crime by putting the Scorpions in my list.)
I'm not as big of a fan of Linkin Park, but again, not metal, in my opinion.

And for me, 70s and 80s punk forever, but then I was an 80s punker, so there's a wee bit of bias there...

Subject to fluctuation based on mood.

Also, System of a Down.

I never even heard of Sabaton except for here.

captain yesterday wrote:

They're Swedish. You're in the Midwest. Case closed.

I really like '60s garage punk, but I never really got into the common-or-garden '70s/'80s stuff, though it does start getting weird and interesting pretty quickly.

My grandmother died early this morning.
I'm so glad that she's finally free of that body and can be at peace--she was so sick for so long and her last few weeks were not very comfortable--but it hurts so much to be so far away and not be able to be with my mom and my sister right now.
I'm glad I got to see her again to say goodbye at Christmas, glad that we got one last visit with all the grandchildren and great-grandchildren together, and glad that she was briefly out of the hospital to celebrate my niece's first birthday.
All of that is good.
And, although it sounds heartless, I am now much less concerned for my mother.
She's been grandma's constant caregiver since she started dialysis in 2008 and the stress of that has taken its toll on her. Honestly, I think she needs to take my sister and my niece on a vacation and get out of town for a while.
My mother's family doesn't believe in memorial services or funerals--they think they're vulgar and overly dramatic--so I won't be going back to Oregon again until this summer.
I haven't told the kids yet. I haven't even talked to my mom. Eve told me this morning, but she said Mom was sleeping and needed to rest, so I should wait and talk to her later.

So, I had a PFS Game Saturday and a local game Yesterday. During the PFS game, my ranger hit 7th level. Pittsburgh's VC decided to redeem all the deferred chronicle sheets. My 7th level ranger is now 11th level. So much money to spend. What to do, what to do?

Grand Lodge

Dang son, I've only seen a jump like that once or twice.

Up until recently, I've only had the one character. All the deferred sheets were gotten by playing higher-level games with pregens.

Grand Lodge

That's actually what got Wei Ji into my online group. He had so many 7th level pregen credits that if he didn't get leveled soon, the 1-7 ones would become invalid due to leveling to 8th. Weird perfect storm situation.

Cyz had a character jump like three levels when module/AP credit kicked in. And my brother started his shield master brawler at like 8th due to AP credit.

Please accept my sympathies, LM.

2. From France...Gojira

Now for Turtles "pinkies in the air" bonus list (and No it ain't Metal).

1. From Norway...Kaizers Orchestra

3. From France (again)...Birdy Nam Nam

Sorry to hear about your loss, LM. But at least the way you've described it, she got to spend her last few months with her family and that's about as a comforting way as you can go.

Val is younger then Hermione,so maybe the full impact hasn't really gotten to him yet(he might not understand the concept of death), or maybe he and your grandmother weren't really that close. I hope your mom will be able to find some time off to take your sister and your niece on a vacation.

John, I'll get to you on that list. May need compiling. What books do you have?
