Oh, work, how I loathe thee...

They've decided to shut down all overtime for IT, but still expect me to be back in the office at 11pm tonight for a four hour change, I need to be on the road by about 7am tomorrow for our plans to drive to Wisconsin, and they also expect me on an 8am phone call tomorrow. This is ridiculous. And yet people are going to complain when I'm not available during the day because of this. Either give me the OT or make me salaried. I'm tired of trying to balance this madness.

EDIT: I hate those nightmares where you're naked at work.

My kitchen is entirely packed except for the contents of the refrigerator. All of our furniture is on the truck except for the mattresses and WW's desk. But his entire closet and office still remain to be boxed up, and all my sewing supplies in the attic. And a few more piles of books.
So we're something vaguely resembling almost on schedule.
Except for we just remembered that we have to arrange to get the utilities set up at the house. Because actually having water and electricity and gas is good.

He never listens to me. I told him over text that GenCon is in Indy yesterday.

Oh...wait...NYC thinking...No Freehold, Indianapolis is nowhere near Wisconsin. See, we have this thing called "distance" between places in this part of the country. It's about a 4.5 hour drive between Indy and Lake Geneva, and that's assuming you don't spend any additional time with delays going through Chicago. Or just getting out of Indy.

Oh, jeez. Just try living in California and talking to Europeans.

"Yeah, I live just east of San Francisco!"
"Oh, so you must go to Disneyland every day!"
"Er, no... Disneyland's just south of Los Angeles."
"So? It's what? A 2-hour drive?"
"Not... quite..."

When I moved to California the first time, from Wisconsin, all my friends were jealous because they imagined I was going to be a beach bum and surf all the time. I ended up in Mount Shasta, six hours from the nearest good swimming/surfing beach.

When I moved *back* to California, after college, I thought, "hey, at least I'll be on the water this time." But unless you live out in the Outer Sunset, a decent beach is still ridiculously far away. (Alameda doesn't count, because the beach there is covered in dead seaweed that looks and smells like matted yak hair.)

100 years? That's not history, that's current affairs...

That's the point.

Well... and if you actually want to, y'know, swim, you have to head a bit farther south, because the water around here is in the 50s all year 'round.

(We used to go to Abbott's Lagoon on Point Reyes just because it managed to get over 60° F in the summer, so if you were a hardy sort, you could swim in it for a few hours.)

I've swam in 50 degree water on more than one occasion. It's...bracing. Not something you really want to do for very long. No way I'm going to be joining a polar bear club.

Now...give me 100 degree water in an outdoor hot tub when it's 5 below zero and snowing, that's just fantastic.

But, you missed how Paizo's art is "outdated"

Of course this is said by a person that then says they wish the art was like it was in 2nd edition.

Hilarious!

Which second edition.

Also, what is more "modern" gaming art?

Leafed through the play-test.

Looked through the threads, mostly the usual back'n'forth.
I even made a small "kind-of-thank-you-for-a-thing-I-liked-thread", though it got swamped quickly (partly my fault for naming it poorly).

General thoughts on the play-test haven't really moved, now that I've paged through it.

Eh, I can live with or without it.

Downloaded the playtest rules this morning, and jumped around it a bit in the few minutes before work. Interesting.

The Homunculi, Mrs Sunrise, and Yellow are all off camping this weekend, so I have the house to myself! I've almost forgotten what it's like to be alone...

Let me guess…

You rode an old carpet down the stairs…?
Eat ice-cream in bed, wearing on your briefs…?
Sat around building card-houses all day…?

Must say the play-test isn't really grabbing my attention...then again as my general interest is lack-luster maybe its just not aimed at me.
Though I am a bit interested in the fiddling they have done with the d20 engine.

I just had to spend time watching security video from two different cameras because Person A said someone took a drink from her beverage in the break room. Person A was very specific that the beverage was located in the door of the black fridge in the break room.

I was given a near 5 hour window of time to scan through.

I went about 15 minutes on either side of the time block.

I have no video evidence that Person A was even in the break room, let alone someone swiping a swig from a beverage in the door of the fridge.

Yep. They think IT = building security.

Bizarre Bay Area Fact #843: You'd have to try pretty hard to find any store around here that doesn't carry "real" ginger ale or beer. Yeah, you can get Crapada Dry, but why on Earth would you want to?

My personal favorite is Fever Tree, but others swear by some of the others; I think Q does one, too. And there's always Bundaberg, though it's my least-favorite unless you're adding rum.

I haven't had the time to look through it yet. I'm figuring on making some PF 2.0 inspired changes to PF 1.0, plus I have my 6 pages of house rules I use, so it's going to be a fun balancing act of "Does changing this break something else?" and "Is this actually better?"

As I've mentioned, I really don't need a rule set that moves more towards 'fuzzy' rules, as we have a multitude of homebrew rulesets for when we want to play a more freeform game. We run PF for the groups where we have "arguers" who would even argue whether or not their PCs had to eat or sleep unless it was explicitly stated in the rules. So PF 2.0 doesn't sound like it's a step in the right direction for the particular groups for which we run PF.

Some players just need concrete structure with which you can beat them over the head. If PF moves away from that, we really don't need it, as we have plenty of lighter-weight alternatives.
But I'll certainly give it a look-see once it's got a published PRD...

Also, I apparently upset a technician from one of our clients. I pointed out, without accusation, that the problems we're having connecting to their system all reside on their end, and it's not something we can fix. They complained about me to my CIO.

I'm thinking of things like I've already altered the death rules and negative hit point limits. I saw an interview where they revealed a mostly complete outline of how they're handling it in PF2 (I only had to fill in a couple gaps with best guess ideas at the time), and I liked it better. More streamlined and easier to remember without having to look it up, but yet it's not fuzzy.

I don't think they're going in that fuzzy direction - I think they're just going in a more efficient/streamlined direction - for better or for worse.
