I just got a text from a coworker and good friend. Her husband has been on the transplant wait list for some time and they just got a call to come to the hospital; he's getting his new heart at 3:00 a.m., Pacific Time. Anyone who feels inclined to say a prayer, think a good thought, whatever works for you, please send one Ken's way.
I'd be grateful.

I hope it goes well.

YES

Which brings me to the point of shoes. I like to walk around during lunch time. And I have the same operating policy when it comes to shoes as to clothes. So during one of my famous long walks, my shoes actually fell apart on me! I had to hobble back to office and beg for a pair of slippers to tide me the day.

HAH! This reminds me of a relatively recent (earlier this year) anecdote: I was wearing my sandals (the ones I've had for years) to my son's birthday party, and I took a step and suddenly my foot felt weeeiiiiirrrrrd and then I couldn't move it and found myself falling toward my face. Fortunately, there were lots of things to catch me, but the sole of my sandal had mostly fallen off, leaving only a side-piece and the part that wrapped around my ankle. It was a weird rest of the birthday party (we were at a Chuck-E-Cheese's; no way to switch shoes).

It's incredibly windy (regular 30-40 mph gusts), periodically rainy, but also incredibly warm (a high of 58 expected today).

So it's like a slightly colder pineapple express.

Of course in typical Wisconsin tradition tomorrow our high is expected to be 28 degrees (with flurries and 40-50 mph wind gusts).

Usual PnP group, actually! Orthos has occasional bouts of extreme overtime that mean he can't regularly DM. Iron Gods is going to be our filler campaign for those off months of Savage Tide.

I see. Thank you. I shudder to think what your students would do to Iron Gods. Will you post commentary for this as well?

I shudder to think what this group will do to Iron Gods. Probably on the journal!

My group turned the tavern and forge into Anne's Home For Wayward Animals And Oozes.

They spent a session rescuing a Cerebric fungus, and rescued a couple of those cranky six legged alien armadillos in the book from some ropefist thugs.

These two groups of mine are opposite extremes, equally terrifying.

The students are wildcards because they're new to the game and don't know what they're doing. I cannot expect them to behave as adventurers normally would because they're not used to it, so they are difficult to plan for.

Savage Tide group are wildcards because they've all been playing for years and know exactly what they're doing. I cannot expect them to behave as adventurers normally would because that's what the DM would expect, so I expect them to immediately jump off the rails. Put another way, we've all been banned from Mythic because of how badly we broke it, and Orthos informed us that our Kingmaker run merited at least a .5 on the Henderson scale of derailment.

0.5? On a scale of zero to one?

Something like that.

The tale of Old Man Henderson is highly recommended for both context and lulz.

You liked it, TL?

My friend said I was addicted to PBPs and was seriously worried.

I approve of monster sanctuaries and all that. I even let the wizard temporarily keep a pet Voonith NPC.

I think too many people murderhobo their way through things, again I'm not much better since in the last 5e adventure I suggested murderhoboism because I saw 3 orcs guarding a camp with a barricade of human and non human bones.

I figured any orc putting up to that was a shady character. And I don't like leaving live enemies behind me.

Because I am a bad man, that immediately made me think, 'Is troll porn a thing?'

My go-to gal for this sort of literature is Hannah Wilde, but she hasn't 'done' trolls yet, if you'll pardon the expression. Sentient koala bears, sharkmen, griffons and leprechauns (is there really a market for leprechaun themed erotica?), yup. Trolls, no.

I'm not going to investigate any further. There are some things we were Not EVER Meant To Know About, after all.

Oh, this week is NOT starting off well...

  • Yesterday we did the Dickens Faire. Not only did we come home with too much overpriced merchandise, but apparently food poisoning was the order of the day as well: Both Imps had stomach issues this morning, and Impus Minor's were bad enough he's home from school. Again. Neither NobodysWife nor I are at 100%. Trouble is...
  • She has a work week from heck cranking out new specs
  • I have a light work week, but I'm doing Costco runs for the Madrigal on Monday and Wednesday, the volunteering WeThFrSa

  • Today should be the most interesting. I drive a Prius. I am probably picking up somewhere around $1500 worth of food to feed 400 people this afternoon (the school reimburses me; I'm not THAT generous). Now, try this: Go to Costco. Spend $1500. Fit it in a Prius.

    Should be an... interesting... trip...

I have been modding my copy of Skyrim Special Edition for the XBOX One. Up til now it has been freezing up on me as they take me to the chopping block. I got it working well enough to get to Whiterun and it crashed as I tried to enter the city. ~sighs~ Now to figure out what mod is causing the issue.

The mod that was causing the initial hang up was Relationship Dialogue Overhaul and I don't know why. Oh well.
