I did go shopping with my mother last night, after we took my grandmother back to her apartment.
But we just went to Sears because her oven died the day before Thanksgiving FOR THE SECOND TIME IN FIVE YEARS and she could get the new one for half-price if we went last night.
Which, I feel, is a good excuse.
The store was empty and there were nine appliance salespeople on duty, and they were all desperate and a bit creepy.
...wow.
On several levels.

We all get what we get from Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, which are scraps.
Oh no, they buy it from us, we have to hold it in a secure location until it's picked up, after our sale is over they come in to pick it up and promptly return it.
oh man. They still do that?
I mean, I have memories of internet resales making unscrupulous brute squad folks wealthy, but I thought they were thwarted by the fact that people can buy things online with greater confidence now.

I drove Cyz over to Build-a-Bear so she could pick up the gingerbread man that is only available today. Doesn’t look like the mall here is overrun with sale zombies. But this is about the first time we have ventured out on a Black Friday in awhile. I think we may have done something last year, but it was in the afternoon when most of the deals were over/sold out.
Cyz?

Despite all extended family being absent -- my side of the family is awesome, a big reason why T-Day is my #1 favorite holiday -- we had a great Turkey Day! We had the homunculi this year, and a friend came over with her kids to feast with us.
I tried to talk a bit about the good and the bad that make up this country as part of the thanks-giving -- earlier in the week I learned that Black Friday is also apparently Indigenous People(?) Day in the U.S., and it got me thinking -- but I wasn't really organized about it and none of the kids have had history lessons in school yet. So we ended up just talking a bit about democracy and the Constitution and then drifting into favorite TV shows. Which was disappointing, but live and learn right?
Also disappointing was having to throw the turkey out later in the evening, after cramming everything else in the fridge and trying unsuccessfully to keep the turkey cool with some freezy packs and a cooler. :( We really need a chest-freezer.
But the food was great, the company was great, and I am thankful for all the good people and things in my life. :)

If my paternal grandparents were still alive, today would be their one hundredth wedding anniversary. They were married in the Polish Catholic Church in Chicago, St. Stanislaus, which is still there.
In their wedding portrait, they look impossibly young. Which they were (eighteen and twenty-three).
Their children are all deceased now and I doubt any of my cousins know or care about their anniversary.
I thought about calling a florist near the cemetery and seeing if I could get some orange blossoms delivered to my grandmother's grave. Is that stupid?

It is not. Remembering what you choose to remember and honoring what you choose to honor is important.
(Also having just seen Coco...)

Go see Coco! It's fantastic!
Also, now I need a magical pet flying jaguar spirit animal.
Even if Nobody's Home would probably kill it.
I agree with all of these statements! Except for NH killing it - he couldn't because it's already (sort of) dead (or something - it's extraordinarily unclear, and that's okay)!
Coco was an excellent movie.
I agree with this, too!

I don't know about Walmart, but I know gas stations used to raid us every time we had a big sale on soda or any other consumable and resell it for thrice the price.
EDIT: I mean, this was easily eighteen years ago, but I know for a fact it still happens. I've watched our local pharmacy have a sale and mysteriously be out, and suddenly our local gas stations have absolutely packed shelves.

My showtime for Coco is Sunday morning. It'll be nice, because I'm well and truly worn out, and I have to go back to work tomorrow.
They better not steal our cashiers again. We had got two cashiers scheduled back in my department at a time, and front end manager kept ordering her people back up to the front to help out. We'd turn around and all of a sudden there's nobody at the registers and the customers are like WTF and we don't know what happened.

At the ER with the nephew. Little man's got a sudden conjunctivitis-turned-respiratory-crud thing, running a fever, and feeling generally disagreeable -- he didn't smile at me. Kinda a big deal. He's calmed down, and his symptoms have lessened a bit, though; he's being tended now.
Been gritting my teeth too much, lately; moreso tonight.

I am sorry to hear that. Being at the ER or hospital sucks no matter what the reasons. I hope he gets better soon!!!
