So, I was looking forward to a big refund...I claimed no exemptions at my new companies because switching jobs can do funny things to your witholding, and I had my first full year of interest payments on the house to cut down my taxable income.
Just did my taxes.
Gr.
I didn't get much, but at least I don't owe anything, I guess. My strategy worked...I just wish it had worked better!
*conciliatory fistbump*
We are looking at having to amend 2 or 3 years of taxes for Diane and I in a very painful way due to recent changes, and 2012 taxes look like they are going to be vicious for us. This could cost us several thousand dollars. :(
F~+!!!!!
EDIT: This ToP blows! :(

I have lots, especially since I don't want to leave much to do over the weekend since my birthday is on Saturday and I'm planning to do fun stuff on my birthday instead. :)
:)
I'm planning to get all dolled up and going to dinner somewhere fancy. There are just too few excuses in life to get all dressed up. At least for grown-ups. But it's not like it got less fun! :)
I'll try to remember to post pics after. The last pics I put up here I was about twenty pounds heavier and had significantly darker hair than now.
It just makes you more of an honorary bear. ;)

I'm sorry to hear that, Tordek! Hopefully you'll find something awesome really soon. There's no place where it's awesome to be let go, but Houston's one of the less horrible ones.
Hang in there!
Don't you already live in Texas?
(I might just be confused by the beer and pain.)
You aren't confused, I do live in Texas near Houston. If all goes well in my search, I hope I get to stay here.

Yesterday I sat on a car where the owner had put flutes on the AC, so when he turned it up, the whole thing sounded like some kind of portable organ. By playing with the balance and strength, he could almost make something rather nice.
Though I have to wonder how maddening it gets when you're on a 6-hour trip with that thing on.
Oh, and the owner's name was Lumiere and sported a crazy moustache. I felt like in a Terry Gilliam movie.

Another enjoyable episode of Supernatural last night. Time travel episodes are always cool. And it looks like next week's episode is going back to the traditional monster of he week format - their going to do a Golem! And Nazis!
I'm glad Supernatural gets good again. We are in the first third of season 6 on Netflix and the writing has definitely taken a turn for the worse. We've really enjoyed the series through the first 5 seasons.

60 mph winds on Long Island last night. It woke me up from a sound sleep at 4am. With the wind and rain lashing against my windows, it was like a deafening roar for about 2 hours.
Mrgh. Now I'm tired.
Yeah, we are having high winds in the UK too. Meant it took an age to turn the heater on last night. But fortunately didn't disturb my rest.
Sorry to hear that you had a bad night. Hands out :tea:

I loved the first 5 seasons. The story was tight and well done. Makes sense, since the creator intended for the show to end with season 5 - he had his story and that was it.
Season 6 was meh. Season 7 was marginally better in that it had a single major storyline with major new villains. Some parts were a bit silly. Season 8 has been iffy - seems to be working to an overarching story, but they keep throwing some weird s+~~ in. Last night's episode was cool, but it came out of nowhere and may be used for setting up future seasons.
Each of the three past seasons have also had some really good stand alone episodes, so that's always something I enjoy.

Sorry to hear of the furlough possibility, AZ. I hope the resolution is not too painful.
I have a feeling that, no matter what, we're at least looking at some severe DoD budget cuts. Whether or not furloughs are a part of that, who knows....?
My big worry is that the wife and I are going to get bent over on taxes this year. When you throw the possibility of furlough in, plus other considerations, it means a rough year ahead. We may have to forgo some of the plans we had....
