Yes! We will be at GenCon Indy this week on Friday, the 17th, all day. We do not have a table, but we will be set up in the Open Play area. You can check our Twitter (@PureSteamRPG) on Friday to find out exactly where we'll be.

We will be available for questions and will have a couple of rough drafts of the alpha playtest for people to look through. If we have enough people at one time, we hope to run through a couple of encounters of our playtest module.

We hope to see some of you there!

A group of guys with day jobs working together to make an RPG variant should not start a fundraiser for art and publication fees before ending the alpha playtest. That (the alpha) just needs time together and some money for pizza. Once the big kinks are worked out of the rules, you (in general) are ready for beta and a wider test audience.

I don't expect people with non-rpg day jobs to have their fundraisers before being finished with the alpha playtest and ready to start the beta.

*grumble*

This (from the kickstarter homepage) sounds like those criteria have been met:

Pure Steam wrote:

Launched: Mar 10, 2012

Funding ended: May 9, 2012

The funds from Kickstarter will cover additional artwork costs, publishing fees, and a small amount of marketing costs.

Pure Steam was conceived as a general concept over two years ago, and dedicated development commenced in Summer 2011. At this point, we've got enough content to fill a hefty tome, and we wanna share it!

Playtesting has been ongoing, and we start open playtesting as soon as we're funded.

There is no reason to post such things if not already ready to beta playtest!

When entry is gained into the closed beta by spending money to back at a certain level...

Pure Steam wrote:

All lower rewards plus exclusive access to our initial round of beta playtesting. You'll see the game before anyone else, play it, and help shape the game with your feedback!

Est. delivery: May 2012

...and the fundraiser ends on 09 May 2012 and the playtest is supposed to begin when funding ends then one should have the beta ready to go before starting the fundraiser.

*grumble, grumble*

But, three months after the fundraiser has ended, to still not be ready to deliver the beta which should have been ready to go before the fundraiser started (common sense wise and based upon the kickstarter description) is absurd. Personal pile ups shouldn't matter considering it should have been done before starting.

Supposedly, we are now WAITING ON THE ARTIST TO DELIVER PICS! Why should personal pile-ups slow that down when someone outside the group is being paid to supply the art? But, if the art for the Beta (really?) didn't already exist and was only waiting the money, how was the beta supposed to begin as soon as the fundraising ended?

*grumble*

Sorry about the repetitive rant.

I feel better now. :D

Zombie cleric? Check this video. Just go to about the 6 minute mark and behold the wonders of an undead cleric.

I'll be present at GenCon and I am also a backer, but not at your level. Anything you'd like me to convey in person in a summarized form that'd be easy to convey? Aside from, "WHERE'S MY $H!+, BRAH!"?

:)

Very well. I skipped the extra-credit when the professor indicated that I received an A on both the class oral presentation & my mid-term, as the final exam wasn't that complicated. Finished it with an extra 1 hr:15 min to spare.

Then there was this about a half hour afterwards.

Spoiler:

Ha ha, no. I'm just venting off to the side.
Maybe a release date for the closed beta. *shrug*

I figure my investment is lost with respect to getting anything substantial.
My guess is that it will be strung out, bit by bit, for as long as possible each step of the way and with the least possible bang for the buck at each step along the way.
So, I'm just waiting to see what comes of it and (doubtfully) hoping for something better.
I'll read more carefully next time.

Plus, back on the second, they said they expected the beta to be sent out in a couple weeks which puts it right at the time of GenCon Indy, with Thursday being exactly two weeks but I wouldn't try to hold someone to exactly on a day for something to be put out. That's my doubtful hope.

So, if time passes and it isn't released this weekend, it will be too late to complain to them but will be too early to complain before. :D

But, thanks anyway. Have fun there.

I hope you have had some success with all those backed projects. I looked to see how many were funded but didn't read the comments to see how many have actually performed afterward with the exception of the new Gamers bit (looks promising) and the Castles & Crusades bit (with little post funding communication). Best of luck.

Currently, with my one backed project, the degree of waste is still up in the air although I am not real hopeful.

Of course that crazy guy in the FB group seems to think we are patrons of the arts doing this solely out of good will to see artists succeed. :D

The only ones that are frustrating me are the Patrons of the Monstrous Arts (TWO YEARS to get the PDF!) and Quantum (supposed to have been delivered in July). Feeling a little buyer's remorse at Quantum, but two hardcovers for $42 was too tempting for my willpower.

Anime Angels and Myth and Magic are the only two to have completed their obligations, but Diamond Trust and the Elevation Dock are supposedly right around the corner.

The Frogs and Rich Burlew have been very good at updates and I have every confidence in them completing the rest of their obligations.

I need to make up an Excel sheet to track when these things are supposed to be here. This month was supposed to be big on that.

I have an initial target of about a third, and then I plan to re-evaluate with my doctor. It's exciting to feel like that first goal is within reach!

And up here we're re-enacting the final of 1958 and the semi-final of 1994 (Sweden vs Brazil) at the last ever game at Råsunda.

It just dawned on me that I've now entered an elite stage of accumulative posts: I've broken the 20k barrier. Of course, it's nowhere in the league of luminaries such as Heathy and Zombeh, but I've joined the ranks of Tozzie.

I shall celebrate my moment of triumph with geeks, booth babes, booze, and d20's in Indy.
