OK so far we have a roster, very rough one at that:

Lynora, Cat?
James Martin, ?
Rathendar, ?
Daveth, Noble Flying Squirrel Rogue
Neil, Monkey Oracle (Lame)

Have I missed anyone?

Shadow Lodge

Huh, you're last post didn't show up until I started making this post, Eric.

I think that's everyone, but we haven't seen hide nor scale of James Martin since his last post. Lynora says she is busy with RL at the moment.

I'm not certain- I haven't got the book in my hot little hands yet.

Sorry, faded away for a moment there.

I'd love to play a Squirrel Sorcerer. How do stats work?

Shadow Lodge

The stats for Squirrel are on the last page.

Level 3
20 point buy

Max HP at 1st level and 1/2+1 sound good to you Eric?

Sure works for me, he he.

Do sorcerous squirrels get a bloodline?

thinking wolf cavalier perhaps.

James Martin wrote:

Yes, they are treated as human sorcerers in that respect.

Rathendar wrote:

I see nothing wrong with this...what Order were you thinking of playing?

Okay, thinking Squirrel Sorcerer with a bloodline either of Stormborn or Elemental... Rikka was born on the night that lightning struck the Tall Tree. Electricity is in his blood, and some say madness as well. He's pure silver with piercing blue eyes and a strange tendency to twitch. He always smells of ozone and sometimes gets an odd faraway look in his eyes. He's always been prone to wandering, talking to those he should avoid and an insatiable curosity that will inevitably, the elders say, get him killed. Still, he hasn't died yet, and as far as he can tell, that's doing pretty well.

Dammit. Now I have to play. That squirrel sounds cool.

Waiting for book to arrive- it shipped on the 11th.

Insane squirrels, man. What could possibly go wrong?

Do we get traits or is that a no-go for animals?

James, this looks good. Just keep in mind we are starting at 3rd level. I think we can use traits here, although they may need to be modified. Just let us know what traits you want and either Dragonborn or myself can look it over.

This game looks to be shaping up to be awesome. Pity that I don't have the book yet (Ordered it from my LGS) and didn't throw my hat into the ring earlier.
Have fun folks!

I've had a similar campaign concept on the back-burner for over a decade, now, which I have mentioned a time or two over at EN World. Here's a sample: http://web.me.com/aeolius/turucambi/Nature_of_the_Beast.html

Okay, RL is still kicking my butt, but I am trying to get my stuff together. Since sorceror is taken, I'm thinking druid. And that's about as far as I've gotten. If I could go for two days put together without a holiday or another round with the virus that will not stop cycling around my house it would help. Ah well.
I'm definitely going to take options that don't include companion anything. No pets. Minna only has so much patience for putting up with inferior beings and since everyone else is naturally inferior ....it's not their fault they can't all be cats. ;)
(Other than her superiority complex she's perfectly personable, I swear.)

Completely missed that 3rd level part! I'll level him up and be ready by the end of the day.

Also, do we have any sort of wealth?

Thinking Order of the Shield at first pass over the lists.

Edit: if uriel was wishing to join, i personally have no objection.

Rathendar,

The Order of the Shield will work fine, but here are a couple of modifications I will make.

1. The Mount is treated the same as a Human Companion in the Noble Wild rules.

2. The Resolute ability functions whenever you take the Sturdy Attitude.

Sturdy (Su):

When a noble animal decides to concentrate on being sturdy, he effectively thickens his hide and is able to shrug off many attacks. This is because he has tapped into the power of his ancestors, allowing him to rise above “natural” animals. He will appear to be determined, dogged, and stubborn while under this attitude.
Effects: While using this attitude, the character’s speed (on land, sea, or air) is reduced as shown on the chart below and he gains a +2 mystic armor bonus to AC and DR 1/–. This intense concentration can sometimes interfere with the completely separate concentration required of a spell-caster, so this attitude carries a 25% arcane spell failure. The bonus provided by this attitude is counted when figuring a character’s Flat- Flooted AC, but not their Touch AC.
Speeds While Under Attitudes
Base Speed 5 10 15 20 30 40 50 60 70
Cautious, Sturdy 5 10 10 15 20 30 35 40 50

i'm still trying to envision how a few of the class features will shift from as written. Banner for example, and bonuses when charging on mount.

Random Update: picked up the PDF, and skimming/brainstorming more.

I found a free character sheet for noble wild here at paizo, but otherwise I'm waiting for the book to arrive to pick a character build.

Existing characters suggest a dog. ("squirrel!", chase the cat/get nose torn to shreds, domesticated/wild ccontrast with wolf) But a constrictor rogue sounds interesting (grab, pin, continue with sneak attack damage).

I can't wait to read the animal descriptions and the rest of the book.

Shadow Lodge

It's a nice read. It even has parts of a story in it, like a campaign journal, and a ton of NPCs in the back(easily accomplished since one is an elephant...)

Okay, here is Rikka, ready for action.

Scarab Sages

I'm heading down to my FLGS to pick up a copy that I ordered of The Noble Wild.
Once I saw this thread, I figured that it was perfect for Awakened animals, similar ( My Kingmaker campaign has taken a very Fey turn), as well as an expanded list for Familiars, etc...
If an opening becomes available, I'd love a chance to jump in, down the road or what-not.

Cheers,
-Uriel

Picked out a Name and Icon, posting just to have it posted. (and to feel like less of a slacker!)

Shadow Lodge

Well, you probably didn't have to have Noble Wolf in your name, but I do like the name. Very fitting! ;)

Dragonborn3 wrote:

I know I didn't have to, but the alias itself was taken when plain. so I just stuck that on the end. I did that with Lini when I made her a profile for a serpent's skull game as well. It's just how I do it. I thought it was a bit fitting also ;)

Shadow Lodge

When it comes to names, I love the site 20,000 Names.

Animal Names
Wild Names
Wolf Names <- A lot of the male names actually mean "noble wolf"

Dragonborn3 wrote:

Yeah, I actually skimmed some of those actual sites. The majority are european/american name origins. Originally I was going to dip into Eastern mythos, but ended up settling on a western one for the name instead.

I've been reading the book, but it's not helping to narrow down my character. Do we know what kind of game we're going to do?

For example, if I do an alchemist monkey, would it be out of place in an all animal wilderness adventure?
Would a raven necromancer cause undo stress at the den?

By the way, there's a perfect spell for the monkey wizard who wants wings. It even allows xp to be spent to make the wings permanent. And only characters with natural wings can cast it. (Share the sky with friends rather than I fly)

Shadow Lodge

I believe we're going with the following.

Two armies of humanoids are marching to war, but the ones you know are evil have an unfair advantage: a group of evil Noble Animals. Very few humanoids are supposed to know about the existence of Nobles, and if the evil army wins, neither the good Nobles or the humanoids they live near will survive...

So it's basically strike force time. Fight the army and take down the evil Nobles, all while revealing yourselves to humanoids as littke as possible.

Anything you'd like to add/change, Eric?

That pretty much nails it...that is what you guys know anyway. Of course there is a nagging question in your minds, Who organized the alliance between the humanoids, and the evil Noble Animals, he he.

Scarab Sages

Is this game full? I don't think I got an actual answer earlier (Perhaps I didn't ask directly enough, my apologies).

Nope we have room for one more, he he

To recap, what are the Race/Classes?

I'd hate to double up.

I was thinking Babboon Ranger (With a bow, even...)
Jaguar or Leopard Druid
Raven Wizard

For example.

OK so far we have:

“Rikka” Squirrel Sorcerer (James Martin)
“Lobo-Noble Wolf” Wolf Cavalier (Rathendar)
Noble Squirrel Rogue (Daveth)
Monkey Oracle, lame (Neil)
Cat Druid, (Lynora)

Let me know if I missed anyone...

Decided.

I present to you Fitzwater, cleric of Hanspur, the Water Rat.

What, you don't worship Nimh?

Nah, this way I am my holy symbol.

Technical question- Rats have a 2 strength.
We're using a 20 point buy.
Do I spend 20 points on the other 5 stats, assuming I put 0 points into strength?
Or drop str to 2, using it as a serious dump stat.
It seems off somewhat to get points back for a preset stat.

Shadow Lodge

The bat written above was using a point buy, and I didn't change his Strength at all. Just leave it alone, unless Eric has a suggestion.

From what I understand, the STR gets dropped to 2 after the point buy is complete. So you would need to spend points on STR before that adjustment. I would insist you start at least STR 10 so you could not gain extra points for other stats. You could spend addl points on STR, but why bother, he he.

still brainstorming a few character details, and need to do a writeup for the companion, but i think i should have the profile finished tonight/tomorrow.

That's what I thought, too. It just seemed like I was getting something for nothing, having to only spend points on 5 stats.

Fitzwater wrote:

If you want an official-ish ruling, I would say making STR your dump stat is not a problem. If a species has a fixed low STR (1, 2, or 3), give the character a point-buy of 8 for STR, then put the other points where you will. After the buy is complete, drop STR to 2 (or whatever the species has). That way you get ~some~ points for your low STR, but not so many as to be unfair.

Thoughts?

Lee,

I think this is a fair way of doing the point buy, so that is what we will do here.

DB3, you ok with this?

Since they already get free deeds AND feats to offset the low Str damage, I would suggest assuming a zero in STR. (buying a 10 effectively) Larger races already get irremovable negative levels, so I don't think the small races need to be given yet another boost to be viable.

(just sharing my opinion/thoughts)
