I believe the alternates still get to see the judges' feedback and commentary. It just get emailed to them? Vic or Gary can acknowledge or deny that. It's just an assumption on my part. If they get pulled up due to a DQ on a Top 32 contestant, then their item will get revealed to the general public, as well. And, obviously, that then becomes part of their portfolio of work for everyone to consider as they continue through the competition.

I haven't gotten an e-mail with the commentary, just the notice that I'm an alternate along with the round 2 rules (which are quite detailed and helpful, by the way). I'll just wait 'til things get rolling with round 2 for either a) my item to get posted because I get bumped, or more likely b) an "alternates" item thread for folks to peruse as the top 32 move on to later rounds. Thanks Neil!

Someone mentioned to me that last year they put up the alternates' items and judges' comments after the deadline for round two had passed, and may do so again this year. I hope that's true.
I had decided that if my item didn't make it to the top 32 then I could guess why (I knew I took some risks) and I wouldn't trouble with asking for a review. I hadn't considered what I'd do if I wound up an alternate. Now I'm curious about what stupid mistake or marginal wording made the small difference between in and alternate. I could have easily dealt with outright failure. The narrow miss, however, that pinches.
I sure am glad to have received the honorable mention, regardless.
