Pathfinder Society and online gaming opportunities

Scarab Sages

I hope this finds everyone well.

I’m new to the Pathfinder Society and there are no events shown as scheduled in the calendar on the website around my physical location. I would very much like to take a character I’ve created using the PFS guidelines out for a spin on one of the Society sanctioned games, but am having difficulty finding a resource for play-by-post or play-by-IM options. Does anyone know of a place I could go for seeking out GMs specifically running PFS material? Or would anyone be interested in pulling together a game online using this thread as a start point for recruiting players? So long as it’s a PFS scenario that I can use towards advancing my character in Society gameplay, I will do what I can to participate.

In case it’s worth mentioning, I’m familiar with the Pathfinder rules and don’t mind GMing sometime in the future. It’s just that this would be my first time doing Pathfinder Society gameplay and I’d like to familiarize myself with its setup/nuances before trying to take on that role. Also, I’d like to enhance my knowledge of the Golarian setting before venturing into that capacity.

Thank you for your time and I hope that this thread helps me or others find a way to get involved with the Society. Cheers!

The Exchange

Any chance you could tell us where you are from? Even just a state would help. Maybe there are some Society games in your area that you area unaware of? I'm in South Dakota if that helps.

Go To The Google Online Collective

Very active group, several games a week, looking for players and GMs.

They use a variety of Table Top Programs:

TTRPG
Maptools
d20Pro

It is all up the GM.

Look forward to seeing you over there.

Grand Lodge

I'm curious where you are too. There are a lot of local events that never make the official calendar thing here. Someone might be able to point out a local group if they know what city to work with.

Scarab Sages

I don't mind sharing my general location at all. I live around Columbia, South Carolina for the moment. I did see a person in the PFS Lodge threads who mentioned doing games a few hours away from me, so I replied on their thread to find out more.

Based on the recommendations of a few people (including both ithuriel and miniaturepeddler) I've checked out the online collective and I've submitted a character for a game that would be played on the 29th :)

Thanks to everyone for helping the newbie out, lol. If you have any other tips to impart that might come in handy, by all means feel free to clue me in. I've got that Osirion symbol by my name so I'm supposed to like knowledge, right :P Cheers all!

I am working on a PFS game this Saturday, it would be Godsmouth Heresy, 1st level but you could apply the credit towards any character. You can get up to 3xp and 4PA for playing in it or just play one or two segments to get partial xp. The game would start at 9am PST this coming Saturday (with a second session starting at 1:30pm PST and the third starting at 7:00pm.

It's not quite final yet, if there is enough interest it will encourage me to get it finalized.

Would this be a chance to make an Order of the Board character, Ogre?

Liberty's Edge

I am running PFS play-by-post (ie asynchronous online) at rpol.net.

At the moment I am finishing up an adventure I inherited as the original DM got distracted and dropped out, so my character went off for a beer and I started DMing.

If there's interest, I'll open to new players and run multiple groups...

How long would a PbP PFS scenario take to complete, Megan?

Ogre, would you be looking to run Order of the Board events to help get people up to 'proper levels' for PaizoCon, Origins or GenCon?

Grand Lodge

@AdAstra> PFS PBP typically takes 2-3 months for a scenario. But the character in the pbp is locked into that adventure until it ends. Can't play him locally while he is still in the middle of the pbp.

@Megan: I know, and it's good fun, would be interesting in continuing afterwards.

@Ogre: just realized, it takes the whole day to play through, or?

@Ogre: could do the first two parts, but the last one would be stretching it, unfortunately.

Ogre, I'd be interested in this.

I have five 1st level PF builds spec'd out on the boards here.

I've got a half-orc fighter (Archer) who'll eventually go into ShadowDancer
I've got a straight up Barbarian
I've got an battlefield control polarm user
I've got an optimized within an inch of her life Ranger archer
I've got an inflict-driven cleric of Gorum.

About the only thing I don't have on tap for level 1 is a rogue/skill monkey and a healing cleric.

When do characters have to be submitted?

Hey Psalmist - Round Con is quickly approaching in Columbia, SC. It is scheduled for February 18-20. Here is the link:

@Ogre
I'm very interested in joining your game if it gets off the ground this Saturday. As it would only boost me up by one level, the GM for the game I'll be doing the following weekend said they didn't see a problem with me using the PC I have planned for their game (Xanthon, a human fighter/1). What would you like me to provide you in preparation for the possible game? Thanks for the suggestion and I hope to join you this weekend :)

@Megan
That sounds like it could be fun :) I'll try to make another character that I don't mind keeping locked in a PbP for a month or two. Once I have that made I'll try heading your way. How soon would you need me to have a PC for you?

@hedgeknight
Yeah, I've seen a few notices on that at H&D (don't know if you're local, if you are you'll probably know where I'm talking about). Thanks for pointing that out, I'll definitely keep it in mind as a future endeavor. Out of curiosity, if you are close to Columbia if we were to start a local "lodge" for doing the PFS games would you be interested in joining? Thanks again!

Liberty's Edge

The current group is in the final combat encounter.

I shall continue, but probably opening up a new game on RPOL, the one I've inherited is a bit messy. Existing characters may continue, and I shall accept new ones.

I am a bit under the weather at the moment, but I may set up and take new players even before the current game is over, given the lead time of people creating characters. I'll say something here once I am ready to start accepting new characters.

If you want to start thinking about one, read the PFS guidelines and create a first-level character in accordance with the rules, and register him here with the Society.

If sufficient people with existing characters above 1st level show interest, I'd consider running a higher-tier game as well.

Shadow Lodge

Ok, we're on for Saturday. Start time is 9am for the first session and 2:30pm PST for the second session. Most likely we'll call it a day around 7-7:30pm but if the end is in sight we might press on.

In the all too likely event that we need a third session we will likely finish it the following week at 9am.

If folks want to just do one session, exp and PA will be reduced, most likely single session players will get 1exp and 2PA and 1/3 gold (if we finish on the first day then one session gets more xp & PA). You can download the chronicle from Godsmouth Heresy page for details.

The simple bit is you can use your own first or second level character and apply the experience to that character.
- OR -
You use one of the pregen characters and can apply the experience and PA to any character you have.

If you have any specific questions you can ask them here; use the contact info on my profile; or just email me mtb.ogre -àt- gmail.

If you aren't using a pregen please send me your character info so I get get you set up. We're using TTopRPG, if you are unfamiliar you can look up myself or Pygon on Paizochat though I'm not really an expert of TTopRPG either.

Start times are 9 AM PST and 2:30 PM PST, yes?

I'm just going to do the first two, ending around 7pm. Finish the following Saturday AM.

As far as my PC goes, he's geared towards ranged combat. Not really an all out tank, but a good combat support character. Depending on what obstacles we come up against, he might have a few places he'd wind up being effective. In case you'd like to give him a look, here's a link to the character:

If you notice any math errors or have any suggestions, feel free to pass them my way. I'll probably update the PC with a description of his appearance sometime soon.

Any idea what you might run with?

@Megan
I'll see what I can whip up for you :) Is this the best place to contact you or should I use a different method for catching up with you?

Had a moment before I noticed your Tomb Raider trait.

I've got two characters I won't play because you're covering the archery niche. One is a high mobility ranger who'll become a ranger/wizard at 2nd level. The other is a Half-Orc with 120' Darkvision going the archery fighter route, and will eventually go to ShadowDancer. I figure 150' darkvision is handy for a shooty type...

I've got a variety of front line fightery-types of different builds.

I've got a Strength/Destruction inflict Cleric of Gorum.

I can whip up a variety of sorcerers on short notice.

Ogre, I present Neve Pardell Godspeaker of Gorum, for your Pathfinder Society run.

If the party size is four players, including her, then her Selective Channel can exclude everyone.

Her maximum healing capabilities will be two cure light wounds spells per day, plus stabilize. She is NOT a healbot cleric.

She can probably fill the 'front line melee' role, at least initially.

Tactics: If she's got a channel left, it may be best to let her walk up and kaboom to soften up a lot of opponents all at once...

Alas, I'm not local - I'm in Wilmington, NC

Ogre, I send you my character, hope you got it.

What did you build, Pete?

Shadow Lodge

@Pete, I got your character.

If the three of you are definitely in that gives us 4 total right now. I suspect there will be one or two more and I'll have my wife fill in if we drop below 4.

Just to clarify we are going to use Skype and TTopRPG.

Skype may be a problem on my end - my computer has a netbook grade CPU. It balks at video chatting and things like skype when anything else is running.

Is there a time we can test to make sure everything works?

What does the party look like?

Sometime this evening or tomorrow though tomorrow I'm Before I'll keep

Cleric, archer, bard I think. Or maybe there are two clerics.

If you're playing in this, please email Ogre at the email address he provided above, and make sure you go and install TTopRPG from Here

Scarab Sages

Ogre is there any chance I could have your Skype name so I can contact you to test out stuff this evening? If you'll email it to me I'll add your name in and see what we can do about catching up :)

Btw AdaAstra, I like Neve, she's a cool concept.

Silver Crusade

I am the bard that will be going into Godsmouth this weekend under the 0rge's watch. I hope that I will be able to bring lots of luck to you all.

Shadow Lodge

If anyone is interested in joining us, we will be finishing this game next Saturday at 9am. The group is at a nice transition point and we are going to be one player should right now. We can use 1-3 new players to finish off the game.

For PFS you can still snag 1xp and 2PA, same as a PFS scenario and if you run with a pregen you can apply it to any character you want.
