Concerning Pharasma

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

I recently read about the Aeons in bestiary 2, What stuck out instantly was the similarity they possess to Pharasma. I noticed how their concerns are very similar both deal with life and death, both are dispassionate and extremely enigmatic. So here's a question could Pharasma have once been an Aeon who rose to godhood. After she wouldn't be the first outsider to have done this. Or is she an aspect of Monad?

Duality seems to be a trait of all True Neutral deities. Nethys embodies Creation and Destruction, for instance.

And Gozreh is both male and female, and wind and waves, etc.

Duality is a trait of all gods:

Zon Kuthon: Sado/Maso
Iomedae: Good/Evil
Erastil: Wilderness/Shelter
Lamashtu: Monster/Civilization

In religion everything needs a counterpart.

It's not only the dualiastic being that Pharasma is but the fact how she closely mirrors the Aeons. Gozreh as well to a lesser extent in that the weather the wind and water are both life giving and destructive.

The way I read it the Aeons are more hell-bent on maintaining balance between what they represent. Pharasma on the other hand, isn't as much about balancing life and death as she is about taking care of both.

I always just figured he was Ghroth by another name, waiting for his chance to come wake up Rovagug.

Pray, tell us how Iomedae in any way embodies Evil?

I'd be interested in this as well.

The Mendevian crusaders is my guess... but that's cheating, since the non-good crusaders here aren't actually members of Iomedae's church, nor do they worship her. They're opportunists and parasites.

Yeah, Iomedae is in no way evil. Heck, everyone dings us for not having enough good guys in the setting, and she is one of the goodest! Don't take her away from us, I beg you!

As Ross points out, this is a trait common to all the TN deities. Pathfinder is quite commendably retaking the pulpy roots of the alignment system, and True Neutral maps pretty comfortably closely to Moorcock's notion of Balance.

Hey man, I love that you guys have very few good guys in the setting. *big fuzzy hugs*

I played the Conan RPG and liked it! All gods are false gods! Abandon hope! Fiddle while the world burns! Woo hoo!

I love Desna and Saranrae :)
