Str Bonus for PC race?

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Sorry if this came up in posts past, but how does Pathfinder handle racial bonuses/penalties by stats? Are they stingy in upping Strength at the cost of 2 penalties?

Is this in the Core book, am I'm just missing it?

Humans, half-elves and half-orcs can put their +2 bonus in strength.

Dark Archive

humans and half orcs get +2 to any stat. that can be str.

full orcs get +4 str and some -'s

the "standard" formula is +2 to 2 stats, -2 to one. The only problem is something like -2 int +2 str, +2 wis is too easy for divine caster min-maxing. Every cleric/druid/ranger would be even easier to optimize

Also, check the race building thread for a better detailed and balanced method of determining power

I see; just wanted to know is Str still warranted two penalties (which I see as b/s, unless one is playing a melee character, and really isnt that bad).

Someone pointed out earlier that the typical formula is specifically, +2 to one Physical, +2 to one Mental and -2 to any one stat.

Pathfinder gives no general rules for valuing stats, or for creating new PC races in general. The implicit PC race standard is a total of +2, which is either +2 to any one stat, or +2 physical/+2 mental/-2 other
