RPG Superstar™ 2011 General Discussion

Dark Archive

After 20 days of hand wringing and countless re-edits my submission is complete. I feel like I've dropped a weight off my shoulders, and now all I can wait to see if my idea was half as cool as I (And my group) thinks it is. I won't show my hand quite yet but it is heavily inspired by an ICONIC magic item from Howls Moving Castle, which come Ultimate Magic, I should be able to recreate fairly accurately.

Dude - you just posted the time and identity of your item. I'd edit that post and just speak in more general terms before you get DQd.

Wait what?

I read the.. oh crap!

I also check back in too late to edit the post or outright delete it :(

The best I can do for now is flag it I guess?
Double crap!

Edit: I just double checked and by the ruling it is prohibited from discussion during the public voting phase, we haven't entered that yet so is there ANY way I can get the mighty post monster to accept this topic as a virgin sacrifice before the ignorant masses show up?

Spoiler:
Pretty please

Liberty's Edge

There is no public voting on the first round. Either Ross or someone shows up and helps you out, or you're hosed, hate to say.

Flagging is your best bet. The moderator's here are quite dilagent. As long as it is a non-judge responding to the flag request, you may be okay.

In all honesty, the items are coming in so fast right now, I doubt I'd be able to pick yours out of a lineup. I also don't know the first thing about "Howls Moving Castle"...so no worries on my end. If Ross wants to nuke your post, he can if he wants. Won't bother me either way.

Note to everyone else, however. The rules mention the importance about maintaining anonymity during the initial round. After the Top 32 go live, that's when you need to avoid talking about stuff during the public voting rounds. At this point, the four judges are the public voters for Round One. So keep information about your item to yourself until January 18th.

But that is like, weeks away man!

They've already said that they aren't checking post times so that won't matter too much.

Howl's Moving Castle eh? This is probably the larger problem.
Well that is waaaaay more telling about what you've created. That is a very recognizable movie, with a living fire that powers his house, a door that changes exit locations, and a dragonfly sky skooter. Someone is going to recognize something from that movie, hands down. Sentient scarecrows, magic rings that point you where to go, etc.

Also, the judges have repeatedly smacked down items inspired from movies... why would you admit to it? :-( Sry friend....

Well for something positive...

Remember that we've had items inspired by books and movies make it into the top 32 as well, they just have to be less blatent than the greasepaint of leadership or the trenchcoat of holding

That said, yeah, you need to stay away from Alkenstar in the future, you may have just blown your foot off.

You know, I don't know anything about the movie the OP mentioned, but the more details everyone else keeps posting in this thread, the more likely I find it that I'd be able to identify which item is his. If your goal is to help him maintain his anonymity, you're not helping.

Only way to know is to wait till the 18th and see if your name is in the top 32 or not.
