In module Godsmouth Heresy p. 6, there is a monster called a Skull Spider.
It has no Int, no skill points, but has a climb speed, so that entitles it to Climb +8.
But Str 3 means -4 so a total of +4

How can its Climb skill be +14?

SB:
Skull Spiders (4) CR 1/4
XP 100 each
N Tiny vermin (Tome of Horrors Revised 316)
Init +2; Senses darkvision 60 ft.; Perception +0
Defense
AC 16, touch 14, flat-footed 14 (+2 Dex, +2 natural, +2 size)
hp 4 each (1d8)
Fort +2, Ref +2, Will +0
Immune mind-affecting effects
Offense
Speed 20 ft., climb 10 ft.
Melee sting +0 (1d2–4 plus poison)
St atistic s
Str 3, Dex 15, Con 10, Int —, Wis 10, Cha 2
Base Atk +0; CMB +0; CMD 6 (18 vs. trip)
Skills Climb +14
Sp eci al Abi liti es
Poison (Ex) Sting—injury; save Fort DC 10; frequency 1/round for
3 rounds; effect 1 Con; cure 1 save.

Large and smaller monstrous spiders in 3.5 use Dex in stead of Str as a Climb skill modifier.

That however only brings the skull spiders to +10!?

The remaining +4 could be a racial bonus? That's usually specified though.

Skill Focus?

No feats, because of no Int
them's the rules

technically the +8 is a racial bonus due to a climb speed.

Yeah, but there is precedent for larger bonuses--the Giant Spider in the Bestiary has a +16 racial bonus (it also has a climb speed).

As always, I'm wondering what you expect to gain by reverse-engineering these stat blocks to find "errors."

To prove you wrong, Reynolds! There is no greater mantle of nerdom than to prove a game developer wrong.

So I've heard.

It isn´t really my type of thing (deconstructing stat blocks),
but AFAIK Paizo HAS Errata´d a bunch of Bestiary entries,
thanks in no small part to people doing more or less this type of thing... /shrug

I just feel like ´it´s a dirty job, so thank god I don´t think it`s fun...´

I cannot speak for the original poster, but I personally think it is fun to crunch the numbers.

When I run 3.5 APs I also convert all monsters and NPCs to PRPG rules and thus reverse engineering often becomes the first order of business for non-standard monsters.

For my part there is no ulterior motive, no satisfaction in prooving game designers wrong or need to have the last word. I just like getting into the system and imagine the OP is like minded.

I sometimes want to use monsters & NPCs long-term so I need to know skill ranks.

So I wrote a program to reverse-engineer the SBs.

I guess the only thing I gain is a better understanding of the rules...

You know; what you're expecting from Superstar writers.

It's a spider! Maybe it's a racial trait and not a skill. Does your character need a skill to walk? Just my two bits.

I hate to be rude, but what exactly you hope to gain by giving those of us who are trying to make sense of the rules that are supposedly in place a hard time? If you can't handle getting published material properly edited, you should at least be thankful when people do your editing for you for free~

As for the original point of the thread, the number seems to be in error, though it wouldn't be totally unreasonable to have an extra +4 racial bonus (or unnamed bonus to make stacking less iffy) to climb for a spider. Though, it should of course be listed as such.
