In module Godsmouth Heresy p. 6, there is a monster called a Skull Spider.
It has no Int, no skill points, but has a climb speed, so that entitles it to Climb +8.
But Str 3 means -4 so a total of +4
How can its Climb skill be +14?

Yeah, but there is precedent for larger bonuses--the Giant Spider in the Bestiary has a +16 racial bonus (it also has a climb speed).

As always, I'm wondering what you expect to gain by reverse-engineering these stat blocks to find "errors."
I cannot speak for the original poster, but I personally think it is fun to crunch the numbers.
When I run 3.5 APs I also convert all monsters and NPCs to PRPG rules and thus reverse engineering often becomes the first order of business for non-standard monsters. For my part there is no ulterior motive, no satisfaction in prooving game designers wrong or need to have the last word. I just like getting into the system and imagine the OP is like minded.

I sometimes want to use monsters & NPCs long-term so I need to know skill ranks.
So I wrote a program to reverse-engineer the SBs.
I guess the only thing I gain is a better understanding of the rules...
You know; what you're expecting from Superstar writers.

It's a spider! Maybe it's a racial trait and not a skill. Does your character need a skill to walk? Just my two bits.

I hate to be rude, but what exactly you hope to gain by giving those of us who are trying to make sense of the rules that are supposedly in place a hard time? If you can't handle getting published material properly edited, you should at least be thankful when people do your editing for you for free~
