Flinds, what are they?

Were can I find info on Flinds? I see them talked about all over the Legacy of Fire AP but they don't tell me what they are. Are they a special type of Gnolls? The bestiary had nothing on them.

They're like gnolls++, that use metal nunchuks called "flindbars". IIRC, they were originally basically gnolls with an extra couple of HD.

Classic Monsters Revisited says they are bigger, smarter, & meaner than regular gnolls, and have 4 HD, use the elite array, and are CR 2.

In PF, you might be able to just call a flind an advanced gnoll.

One thing to note is that if Gnolls usually have hyena heads, Flinds have instead lion head, but without the lion mane.
Well, that's the way they were in the old time anyway, in the MM3 they have hyena heads too.

The full stats of the Flind are in the Monster Manual III (Gnoll, Find) and in the Tome of Horrors.

Flinds are not just bigger, meaner gnolls, but more cultured gnolls as well :)

IIRC, they originally appeared in the Fiend Folio of 1st ed fame :)

But, yeah, Advanced Template Gnolls would work just fine.

Not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but the "more cultured" aspect also typically involved demon worship/summoning through a high priestess. Females being the dominate gender.

I no longer have that stuff, so I may be wrong, but I thought flinds were smaller, smarter versions, back in the day. They made good leader-types, able to lead the bigger, dumber gnolls, and were often clerics of Yeenoghu, demon lord of gnolls, since they were smarter, overall.

They were a less obvious version of ogre magi leading ogres. More "evolved," as far as having a culture, but arrogant and willing to use their "lessers" as cannon fodder for their own schemes.

The Scro from Spelljammer had an analogous attitude regarding orcs.

I'm very happy that they did not name them Sllongs then.

Legacy of Fire was written for dnd 3.5

You might look for Nethys' Legacy of Fire conversion online.

Thanks to everyone, this defiantly gives me a start!

Find a copy of AD&D 2e Complete Book of Humanoids. That will give you a decent background on them.

Which makes sense since they're Hyena people.

Female Hyenas are bigger, stronger and meaner than males, and are the Dominant gender, infact the alpha female Hyena's cubs have a higher social standing than anyone but the Alpha Female in the pack.

as for Flinds: yeah they're advanced Gnolls that use a Flindbar, a special weapon that is essentially a Nunchuck thing.
