Shocker lizard shock save

Rules Questions

The shocker lizard's Shock (Su) text says:

"Shocker lizards can deliver an electrical shock to a single opponent within 5 feet. This attack deals 1d8 points of nonlethal electricity damage to living opponents (Reflex DC 12 half). This save DC is Constitution-based."

So is it a Reflex save or a Con save? This looks like an error to me, but maybe someone can point out something I've missed.

you make a reflex save."This save DC is Constitution-based." means that the lizards constitution modifier is what determines the dc for the save. (10+1/2 hd +ability modifier) so if someone cast bull strength on a friendly shocker lizard the dc would be 14

Sovereign Court

Its a reflex save.

When a save is called out as 'Constitution based' it means the save DC is dependent on the creature's constitution modifier, usually Con Modifier +10 + 1/2HD of the creature.

Theres no such thing as a con save.

Basically, a tougher dragon with more constitution than another dragon has a more potent breath than an equal HD dragon with a lower constitution modifier.

Ninjaed- but bignorsewolf you mean bears endurance not bulls strength. The save DC is con based not strength.

what...bears can't be tough!? its blatant speceism!

Sovereign Court

You mean bulls can't be tough ;). The real issue is that bear's aren't considered strong ;).

Thanks for asking this question. I've been adjucating saves v. shocker lizard's wrong for a while now.

Sovereign Court

The-

"this save is X(stat) based" is used universally across monsters in the bestiary and 3.5 monster manuals. Its second nature to me by this point.

Here is my question to the Shocker ||,| Lizard DCs:

Is there a cap to the DC as there is a cap the Damage in the event of a multi-lizard *zzzot!*?

Additionally, if two or more shocker lizards are within 20 feet of each other, they can work together to create a lethal shock once every 1d4 rounds. This effect has a radius of 20 feet, centered on any one contributing lizard. All creatures within that radius take 2d8 points of lethal electricity damage for each lizard contributing to the shock, to a maximum of 12d8. A Reflex save (DC 10 + the number of lizards contributing) halves the damage.

If 50 lizards wer *zzzot*ing, would it be 12d8, DC 60 REF for Half?

Yup. They're nasty little things. Of course, smart colonies wouldn't use more than 6 at a time to create shocks since the damage is capped.

48 lizards could create 8x 12d8 shocks at DC 16. They can do this every 1d4 rounds, which averages out to 2.5 rounds. So, that's 16 shocks every 5 rounds on average.

12d8 has an average of 54 damage so even if you make the save, that's 27 damage. Sixteen of those shocks would be a whopping 432 damage over 5 rounds which is 86.4 DPR - except the first round where you'd take the full 216 damage. That's of course assuming you make every save.

Now that's shocking!

This made me lol at work, thanks, people now think I'm crazy. ROFL

In AK's Serpent Skull PbP game, three shocker lizards very nearly wiped an entire 5 person party of 2nd level characters. And I mean, very nearly wiped us.

Truly a rogue's moment to shine ;).
