Hi Folks - just about to run CoT as my first GM outing of Pathfinder.
One of my players has expressed a desire to play a Drow - obviously I'm a bit reluctant to say no straight off - but what do others think? - should a drow have the same XP restrictions as a tiefling? - should a restriction on alignment be specified?

The first thing to mention is that
1) It's your game. =)
2) The basic Monster Drow is (I think) presented in such a way that it should be usable as a playable race (Don't forget the -2 to perception in normal day light for quite a while)
3) HOWEVER! Consider if you are going to ever be playing Second Darkness with said character, or even a character that is related to said character in the future. In Second Darkness it is made plain that Drow do NOT come to the surface and that the culture is EVIL...
Just some thoughts. =)

Hey it`s your game, have fun and go with what you like to do :)
however if you like Cannon, this isnt the forgotten realms :) In this world nobody on the surface knows about the Drow except the Dwarves who live in the Sky Citadels (So named because they are on the surface ie build in surface mountains and not in the deep underdark) and not dwarves who are born in some human city or such. Got that from reading between the lines. The Dwarves Came from the Deep Underdark.
And the Elves from Mierani Forrest, as the Drow split from the elves millenia ago, have been fighting a secret war with them in their ruind city of Celwinvian and they havn`t been telling any body about it. Or letting outsiders in. The Elves from Kyonin probably dont even know.
And as the Drow dont get above ground at all there arn`t any half Drow in Golarion yet, and surface people dont know about them yet.
And the authors of Golarion make it known that the Drow are supposed to be the most EVIL you have seen. Even their prestige classes are nasty... Ich
But hey, play it like you want :) If its not fun, its not a game :) These are just pointers. And nobody here wants to argue ;)
Thats just my 2 coppers worth :)

On the other hand... in my campaign one of my players insisted on playing a Drow... so we worked it like this... on the Queen of the elves of Mierani forrests orders, one of the Drow was captured. In this case a young Drow who was emediately taken to interrogation. He was beligerent and not to forthcomming. Wisdom suggested trying a helm of opposition alignment and perhaps he would be more forthcomming with infor on the hated enemy. So one was found and brought forth. Not numerous to use on the whole of the enemy but enough to use on a prisoner. Once he was turned from in this case Neutral Evil (Instead of the Usual Chaotic Evil) to Neutral Good he was emediatly repentant and also almost driven insane for all the horrors he saw and did and what his people did to each other and the surface elves. That night he had strange dreems of a fiery maden, tremendously beautiful with fiery hair and fiery wings, and a white gown. She came to him and held him as he cried. When he awoke there was a brand on his chest of the Goddess Sarenrae. He found that he could walk the light of Day with no ill effects of sunstroke or heatstroke etc. He was very forthcomming on Drow stratedgy and placement as well as Drow life an also on the Drow city etc. So after the Queen gave him a pardon, much to the reluctance of the rest of the Elves ! He was given a medallion of passage by the Queen so he had free reign in the Kingdome.
Off to work, ttyl

So having the Blessing of Sarenrae allowed the Drow to be on the surface and not suffer solar effects like an underworlder would who wasnt used to the sun. Ie sunburn easy etc. But he still had the bright light intollerance to get over.
The elves of Mierani forrest dont get alot of Sarenrae worshippers, although they know about her. So they suggested he go to Sandpoint for the Swallowtail festival as Desna is one of the Elves favored Deities and the Chirch there honors many faiths.
Shalelu Andosana Journeyed with him to Sandpoint along with another PC's Elven Ranger and wolf companion. And sandpoint is where our Drow went from Fighter to Cleric of Sarenrae :) Goddess of Healing and Redemption :)
