Item Creation with WoP

Round 2: Words of Power Discussion

I'm curious, how will Item Creation work with WoP? Is a WoP caster forbidden from making items anymore? Or will there be a conversion ruleset?

IE: 'If it requires this spell to make the item, then the caster must have one or more of these words combined with one or more of these words', or will each item have specific words requierd, or are we looking at WoP casters being completely out of luck making items and having to take Master Craftsman feat instead?

They certainly aren't completely out of luck; they meet the prerequisites for item creation feats without the Master Craftsman feat. After that, even if they don't have an appropriate spell to create, they can at least use higher Spellcraft checks to make up for missing requirements...

I would allow resonable substitution for the spell requirements. For example, making bracers of armor normaly uses the Mage Armor spell.

I would allow a wordcaster to use a properly expended word spell made of the force shield word as a substitute.

Agreed, you can always make GM calls. My question though was would there be official rules, or would it just be tossed out as a stand alone system. That always really annoyed me about WoTC, they'd throw out a system (like truenamer, or pact or warlock) and never give rules on how it impacted core things like item creation.

Agreed, except for when they'd do something worse like with Psionics where there was an entirely different chain of Item Creation feats necessary to make the items, leading to rampant feat bloat.

Ayup, that was worse.

I'd like to see something simple like a list of items already in the books and a list of words that are needed to make that item, and then any new item books having both.

Actually, nasty thought, how does wordburning fit in. A 7th level caster w/wordburning can generate an effect in a 3ed level spot that is 7th in power level. Can he inscribe that on a scroll? Worse, into a wand?

I think he would have to pay the increased price of that spell and not make a seventh level wand as you cannot do that it would have to be of lower level. A scroll may be able to be written but it would cost as much as any other 7th level scroll.
