A Tough Question
Interesting, unfortunately there is only a yes/no answer.
Poor design.
I regard capital punishment as morally repugnant and would help them to escape for that reason, yet my vote would be lumped in with 'family' in a family vs. society dichotomy.
The lack of context is also a flaw.
Are we assuming a flawless legal system? Is this a tin-pot dictatorship in which the theft of an apple results in the death penalty, or a massive killing spree, or somewhere in between (and, if so, where)?

Assuming that my son/daughter is indeed guilty of the crime, and assuming the punishment is appropriate for the crime committed, then no. They did the crime, now they need to suffer the consequences. Difficult decision to make though.
I'm actually a believer in capital punishment, albeit as a last resort. So I choose 'society' for this one.

The question is meant to be posed in a yes or no fashion because sometimes decisions are forced upon us. If you say "depending on other circumstances" then you're not making a choice. And the choice you make, although the heading says "family vs society" is about what you want, not necessarily that you're siding with family. It seems as if your answer would be "yes" whether or not it was family.
With regards to what kind of legal system, does it matter? One man's justice is another man's leniency. Assume it was the most liberal society in the world in which someone was only to be put to death if they were about to immediately kill everyone in the world and there was no hope of rehabilitating them.

It depends entirely on the crime. For most crimes that you can be found guilty of and deemed worthy of the death penalty, I would only help them escape if I thought the manner of death was particularly cruel, unusual, or stupid. I would probably execute them myself, however.
If we are in some foriegn land where walking on some unmarked sacred ground means you have to hang by the neck, then I'd probably help them escape and not punish them on my own.

It's a pretty simple question if you keep it that way, instead of reading stuff into it.
My answer is yes, because family comes before all.
In the spirit of not keeping it simple, what if your kid murdered other members of your family, say for example 3 of your other children and your wife?

Still pretty simple he broke the family bond first by sheding shared blood so therefore he loses all rights to that protection and no one in the family will aid him in anyway or deny the right of justice.

Doesn't anyone believe in pure hypothetical situations anymore?
Hypothetical questions are fine. But few things in life are black and white, yes or no.
How about.
Would you ever have sex for money?
I think for many people that would depend on the amount of money in question. 20 bucks i bet most would say no. For 20 million I think most people would. So not really a yes or not question in less put on context.

I think the necessity of context also depends on the person. For example, in the answer to your question above, for me it's an absolute no, regardless the amount of money.

How about for love?
In the book White Flags of Surrender, Which I believe is autobiographical, the heroine, Lili Hahn's, mother is Jewish (she is not as you stopped being considered 'Jewish' if you where only 1/8 or 16th Jewish). When her mother is dragged off by the Nazi's she goes out of her way to find the Nazi officer in charge of her mother (she has underground contacts) and agrees to have sex with him twice a week so long as he sees that her mother is as well treated as possible and lives. The Nazi Officer does in fact up hold his half of the bargain and her mother survives the war despite being rounded up rather early and not having any particularly useful skill.
Or patriotism?
A popular question young maiden's would ask themselves (often in their diaries) or, occasionally each other, in the 1800's was "if the nation is being invaded and the general of the enemy army chooses to use your house or in some other manner takes a fancy to you do you sleep with him in order to try and learn his plans so you can take his secret plans back to your countries leaders?" I.e. would you give up your purity for patriotism.
Interestingly enough the question is pretty much a product of its times. Its essentially a way for young woman to have salacious thoughts in a time when it is otherwise not proper for them to have salacious thoughts.

That's pretty hot. Reminds me of some story we had to read in class where the girl in the story wanted to see her bf, but she didn't have any cash to pay for the ferry ride over to go see him, so she slept with the boat captain. Then her bf was all upset when he found out. Most people in our class sided with the bf, but me and one other person thought the bf was a dork.

For me, it depends on what I'm doing with whom and how much money they're willing to put down.

Yeah, but hypothetically, that just means I'm all the more awesome.
If that's possible. Now off to scribe a pdf full of gag magic items like a Forge Georman heat metal gangster grill, so a green dragon can cook 25 turkeys in his mouth for Spanxgiving.

I'd eat those, but I think the poisonous breath of the green would translate poorly to a meal.

The question changes occasionally. Today's question is now about sex for money.
