I am recruiting four people to play in a 15th level homebrew campaign. We will use pathfinder rules for play. Homebrew classes from other sources, as well as classes from 3.5e, will be allowed as long as they are run by me first. Applications can go in this thread. We will be using a 25 point buy and double standard wealth. Additionally, each player may have an extra magical item for free provided that they include a very good reason for that specific item in their background. Homebrew items are welcome. As far as background for a character goes, feel free to get creative and colorful with it. This is, after all, a homebrew campaign.
Below I'm going to post some general background information for the world since it is entirely new. I am including only the information that I think will be necessary to make a new character. If anyone has any specific questions, just send me a private message and I will be glad to answer them. The world is called Sariel. This is the "story hook."
Sorrows of Sariel
Fighting a losing war against the demonic forces of Tyrixx, the Kingdom of Valandaer has become despondent. After being denied aid by the Order of Salizer and the Empire of Cellerus, they have turned to the last remaining world power capable of assisting them with their current predicament: The Thieves’ Guild. In a last ditch effort to gain an advantage in the war, the High Kingdom has adopted a desperate plan proposed by its High Advisor, Lanthromere Aranne. On orders of the High Council, under the guise of a diplomatic venture to Nurish, the heart of the Sixth Great Empire, an envoy consisting of some of Valandaer’s highest ranking nobles is traveling towards the city of Ulvin to meet with the rarely seen leader of the Thieves’ Guild and negotiate the terms of Lanthromere’s dangerously ambitious strategy.

Valandaer
The High Kingdom of Valandaer, otherwise known as the Elven High Kingdom, was once the undisputed superpower of Sariel. It boasted undisputed political and military power, along with a vibrant culture whose influence was seen all across the world. As its nickname suggests, the Nobility of Valandaer are almost unequivocally Elven. The Kingdom in its entirety, however, is roughly 60 to 65 percent elven. The High Kingdom is a nation with a history saturated with the Arcane. Divine Magic, while not shunned in any circle, is simply among the minority. Denizens of the Kingdom revel in the use of Arcane Magic in day to day tasks and pride themselves, as a collective, as the greatest practitioners of the art in the world. After all, the ancestors of Valandaer’s leaders were the first to use magic as a tool for expansion. The High Kingdom is a nation that prides itself on ancient traditions, and traditionally it is ruled by a Monarch, his queen, the captain of the High Guard, the official Advisor to the King and three of the highest ranking nobles. The three Nobles are rotated every decade, and the new members are selected by the old council, except for one who is personally chosen by the King. The High Council consists of 7 total members.
Presently, the High Kingdom is ruled by Queen Soreanna Baelgar. It is the first time the High Kingdom has been ruled by a Queen rather than a King because of the tendency for the King to Outlive his queen by a significant margin. The current High Council consists of 9 members, further upsetting the tradition of Valandaer. There are those among the nobility of the High Kingdom who are less than pleased with Soreanna’s apparent disregard for the tradition of Valandaer.
The Elven High Kingdom is at war with the relatively newly formed demonic nation of Tyrixx. During the Second Great War, after gaining an increased proficiency for the arcane, the elves of the High Kingdom opted to summon a sizeable number of demons and subject them to indefinite compacts under the threat of arcane annihilation in order to bolster their military might. After the war, the High Kingdom kept the remaining demons as slaves. Eventually, these demons multiplied, and some bred with their mortal masters. In time, there was a great uprising and revolt by the demon and half-demon slaves which resulted in their freedom and a migration, known as the Exodus, out of Valandaer’s territory. In a short period of time, they formed a nation and it prospered. According to Valandaer’s schoolbooks, the war began when the leaders of Tyrixx murdered King Seferin while he was on a diplomatic sojourn attempting to negotiate open trade.
It is well known across Sariel that the High Kingdom is losing this war that it has been fighting for quite some time. The leaders of Valandaer have requested aid from many of the other powers of Sariel, but have found nothing but rejection for reasons that are unique to each power.
Recently, an envoy of some of the most powerful nobles of valandaer have begun a journey towards the heart of the Sixth Great Empire to make yet another attempt at forming an alliance to aid them in their time of need.
Kibeth
The Sixth Great and Bountiful Human Empire
The Empire of Cellerus has been torn down and rebuilt six times. A nation that prides itself on its resilience and perseverance, Cellerus is the melting pot of Sariel. Those who are of a more satirical disposition that reside in Cellerus know it as the Sixth Great and Bountiful Human Empire, as the rulers of Cellerus are predominantly, though not exclusively, human. The population of Cellerus in its entirety is about 40% human.
Cellerus is ruled by the Twin Emperors Romirin Nurish and Julian Angelus. They are not twins; they simply share the rule the Cellerus. Under their rule, Cellerus has seen its greatest age of peace and prosperity. Maintaining that peace and prosperity is of the utmost importance to Romirin and Angelus, and they have gone so far as to deny aid to Valandaer in their conflict with Tyrixx. They have no interest in getting involved in another war, especially after the events of the Second Great War. Additionally, recently there have been some skirmishes with the Somarians that occupy the region to the east of the Sixth Great Empire. The Somarians, or orcs as they are often called by those who dislike their race, have evolved in recent years from their wandering tribal nature to create a semblance of civilization. There seems to be a rising conflict in that area, and the last thing Cellerus needs is to get involved with Valandaer while handling their own situation.

I was among the first to post in your previous thread, luckily i saw this second part as soon as it was posted. I know this is not "first come first served" but hope it gives me a bit more credit :)
I have a male dwarf barbarian and a female elf bard already done, only lacking background and lvling, have no time right now but will do asap.
Thanks for now

Osh’’ Ra’shal’
The democratic dwarven bureaucracy of Osh’ ’Ra’Shal’ watches the world from a different view than any other. Nestled in great sky citadels in the clouds, accessible only by the dwarven airships, the dwarves tinker away their lives. Most dwarves are traders or craftsmen, going down from the clouds with rare goods to the major cities whenever the skyships fly out. Skilled in the art of techmaturgy and some of the most powerful magical users on the planet, they are content to stay out of the affairs of all other races.
Sorcuth
At the start of the second Great War, groups of people from Valendaer and Cellerus left both nations in an attempt to form their own nation, because they wanted peace. After some time, in order to gain power they turned towards the necromantic arts.
Somarians
Somarians, or known as orcs to those with no fondness of them, are a tribal race that respect strength and battle prowess. In recent times, they have coalesced into a horde that has the makings of a national government. The would-be warchief is an ambitious Somarian who feels that his people deserve more than his people have been given. As a result, he and some of his trusted warchiefs and tribal leaders, have staged raids on some of Cellerus’ outer villages, hoping to gain more resources and territory.
Gnomes
Different ethnic groups of gnomes, differentiated by their surroundings (mountain and forest) live in a shamanistic setting. The gnomes pay homage to the elements. Tend to live in very scattered villages.
Changelings
Traditional changelings, live all over Sariel, blending into whatever society they are comfortable in. Rumors abound of a hidden city, comprising of only changelings.
Librarian’s Guild
A group of arcane scholars dedicated to neutrality and the goal of obtaining and cataloguing arcane knowledge. There is a Grand Library in Valandaer, Osh’’ra’shal’, and Cellerus, each with an Academy associated with it. Ancient texts often reference a fourth Grand Library, though it is believed to be nothing but legend.
Arcanum Protectorum
A secret organization formed after the Second Great War whose sole purpose is to prevent grand scale magical warfare that would present a danger to Sariel. The Arcanum is a small but very powerful secret organization consisting exclusively of practitioners of the Arcane.
Thieves’ Guild
A notorious and powerful organization of thieves and criminals whose influence stretches across all of Sariel; the thieves’ guild will undertake any task for the challenge… and a price.
The Order of Salizar
The Knights Templar of Sariel. They are a group of religious knights and clerics dedicated to fighting the forces of evil that threaten Sariel, and spreading the word of various divine Gods.

There is a new set of deities and the origins of the Nine Hells and the Abyss have been re-written as well. Death, and by extension, necromancy works a little bit differently in Sariel as far as flavor is concerned. Mechanically, nothing significant changes. This, of course, will only become relevant if one of the players dies or wants to be a necromancer.
I will not post information on the new deities unless it is directly relevant to someone's character or character background, or unless I am asked to do so in a private message or something.
Again, feel free to ask any questions. What I have posted so far has been VERY general, relatively speaking. I expect fleshed out and creative backgrounds. I don't mind lengthy backgrounds, though it's important to note that I value quality over quantity. Feel free to create story elements in your background and to be ambitious with your background. When I fleshed out Sariel, I did it in such a way that each player will have a very big and unique impact on the world. For example, if someone wants to be the leader of the Sariel's Thieves' Guild, that spot is very open. If someone wants to be a Librarian, there is no reason it cannot be done. If someone wants to make up their own background entirely and then work it into Sariel somehow, just let me know. If someone wants a background that puts them on the other side of the world from where the "story hook" takes place, just message me and we can get you involved quickly. Additionally, every decision each player makes will have a lasting impact on the events that unfold in Sariel. This isn't a pre-determined adventure path.
A friend is currently working on a very rough map which will be posted soon.
Thanks again to all of those who expressed interest in doing this, and a preemptive thanks to those who apply.

Which options are there for a female elven bard ? As far as i can read you only gave info for wizards, thieves or fighters.
I don't think I was very clear. There is NOTHING forcing you to be affiliated with any of the groups listed above. Your background is your own. I simply listed those to let people know that they were there. I regret to inform you that as of yet, there is no cool organization tailored for a female elven bard. Feel free to create one, however, or work on creating one throughout the campaign. A female elven bard, depending on what bard archetype you are looking at, could be a High Noble of Valandaer(Hell, give me a good enough background, and you can be on the ruling council if you want), a court entertainer in either Valandaer or Cellerus, an illusionist of Tyrixx if you want to be evil(or be a spy infiltrating Tyrixx for whatever purpose), or none of the above. You could be a neutral member of the Librarian's Guild who secretly works for the Arcanum. You could be unaffiliated entirely as well; maybe be a renown wanderer who lends her hand to any task for the challenge, provided that the cause is noble. You could surprise me entirely and create an eccentric and interesting background that I can meld into the world.
These are just a few possibilities that hit me instantly. There are an infinite number of paths you can take.
Also, the Thieves' Guild isn't exclusively for rogue style classes. They have their own fair share of pretty much every class provided that the class permits a similar school of thought to what the Thieves' Guild does. For example, you will probably not find many paladins amongst the Thieves' Guild (give me a good enough background, and you can be a paladin in the thieves' guild if you want to), but you might find a few practitioners of the arcane and even practitioners of the divine. Bards are certainly welcome.
The Arcanum recruits those who have an arcane talent who they feel would be worthy to join them in their cause. This includes hybrid and multiclassed arcane casters. It's important to note that if the arcanum has not attempted to recruit you or use you in some way, you will not have heard of them.
The Order of Salizar will consist mostly of divine casters, paladins, monks and fighters. There is, of course, still room for every other class in there; just wanted to convey the demographic.
Kibeth
I forgot to mention a sect of vicious assassins known as the Hand of Sorcuth. While there are others across the world, they are by far the most efficient and ruthless. Their ranks are almost exclusively undead, and they can be hired for a high price, provided that they deem the task worthy of their skills. They also seem to serve as a tool for political assassinations in Sorcuth. Their motives and goals are unclear, often seeming inconsistent or counterproductive.

Kibeth, could you tell us about your DMing experience and the length of time you hope to be running this game? How often do you hope to be posting? How often to you hope for us to post? etc..
Races?
Core I am assuming are allowed?
Changelings what are these stats etc?
Tieflings Aasimar how do you plan on tackling higher level races, if they are allowed?
Also some changes

Think you want of instead of the.
If I play it will be a mix of some or all of these classes. Rogue and, (archivest or wizard) or (ranger or ftr)
depending on if you need offense or casting, & the general power of the other players.

Tieflings Aasimar how do you plan on tackling higher level races, if they are allowed?
If i were running it, i would consider a Tiefling or Aasimaar pc perfectly fine to play alongside the core races. they really aren't any more or less powerful. they are the exact same CR as a pc race and are effectively on the same power level. even when you consider the fact that they can wield martial weapons with free proficiency by virtue of being an outsider. it just means that they get a few unique weapon options one wouldn't try with another race due to lack of proficiency and unwillingness to burn a feat. these options aren't really superior, just different in thier own unique way. the eneergy resistances will become negligible early on. a lot of races come with darkvision anyway and with thier otherwise lack of racials, thier lack of attribtue penalty (or at least lack of a signifficant one) balances itself out.

You were clear enough, it is just that some things are better known in advance. But the Valandaerian noble seems interesting, will look into it.

the only reason that they are CR 1/2 is because their monster entries have levels in PC classes.
if that Aasimaar were an adept and not a cleric, it would be CR 1/3.
If a human were a first level fighter, wizard, or other PC class, thier CR would also be 1/2.

Guten tag everybody! I'm Glorfinmad and I'll be co-dm'ing (mostly running NPC's, designing maps, more concrete world-buildy-things.) While Kib is off in class I will handle a few questions right now. Also I will give you my map. It's not got city names yet, but I don't want to delay getting SOMETHING to you any further. It is rough, but I hope it will suffice to get your imagination working.
...DMing experience?...
This will be Kib's first genuine attempt at DM'ing something. He's run some one off adventures and what not, but never a full out campaign.
I have been DM'ing for 5 years now, mostly 3.5e but I've run one pathfinder campaign. I'm fairly well versed in the rules though, on occasion, I do mix up my 3.5e and my PF.
For the sake of this campaign I will be handling some of the roleplay of NPC's, and all of the mapmaking and literal imaginary worldbuilding (couldn't find a proper tunr of phrase for that...)
Also: I type like I talk so I hope you will excuse my odd use of punctuation. I double check everything to make sure its readable but sometimes I just flub up something for the sake of immersion, I'm more a speaker than a writer :)
...Races?...
Ooo, the fun questions. As far as races go the standard races are always welcome. You'll find that there are quirks though for races like gnomes, halflings, and dwarves that will make you need to run them by us first. It's the same as with any other non-standard realm; your Ebberon halflings aren't the same as your Golarian halflings, and both of those are different from the Sariel halflings.
As far as Aasimar and Tieflings. Tielflings will work very well and, as pointed out above, they are already good to play. Aasimar are a little more difficult to fit in but still very possible (they will just be much more rare and will recieve a very mixed welcome (imagine walking about the streets of a Sorcuthian city.))
For other non-standard races please don't hesitate to inquire about them individually. There are always places we can fit people. Realize though that if you intend to play a centaur you will be highly limited in terms of where you come from, what organizations will welcome you, and the welcoming you recieve amongst the various nations.
As far as what would, in standard 3.5, be level advanced races... we'll work with you on that if you are looking into it. We don't really have anything concrete yet.
...Traits?...
I haven't run it by Kib yet (naughty me) but in my eyes as long as you keep the relative power level of your traits in check then we are good. Traits should amount to roughly half a feat worth of goodies, so feel free to go wild. Again, anything homebrew needs to be run by us.
If you need to get into contact with me you can reach me with questions at rgmotes@gmail.com

Realized I didn't post the map.
World Map
Top to Bottom, Left to Right your countries are:
Sorcuth (everybody and their cousin)
6'th GABHE (I am now officially going to refer to it as Gabby)
Samarian Desert (not much but sand)
High Elven Kingdom (... elves)
The Wilds (here be wood elves)
Samarian Plains (here be orcs)
Tyrixx (demons, daemons)
Sea of Ashton
The Lower Regions
I'll get it properly fixed up with city names and such, and get some more physical features put on it.

Compact is typically used between two states or bodies of power. I think contract is what you are looking for possibly.
A compact is an agreement or covenant, and although often used between states or bodies of power, there is nothing preventing it from being used to refer to individuals. Additionally, "compact," at least for me, conveys a certain gravity that "contract" doesn't really cover.
Think you want of instead of the.
I definitely wanted of instead of the, thanks. I'll have to yell at my editor for that one. Glares at Glorfinmad.
As Glorfinmad already stated, this will be my first time dming a full campaign. I've done several 3.5 APs, some homebrew APs with the pathfinder rules and a little bit of City of Fire stuff, but nothing too extensive. I have a lot more experience with plot design and what not. With Glorf's five year tenure as a DM, I think we can really put together something great.
I want to run this as long as people are willing to play. We have enough of a plot skeleton to last an extremely long time.
The drow, tiefling and drow races are perfectly fine to play as they are written in the bestiary. If you want to play a drow noble for some reason, that's going to be LA +1. I'll post the stats for the changelings shortly, as well as two classes that players can use if they are so inclined. Glorf already said this, but I wanted to reiterate that any races are welcome, just run them by us first.
Kibeth
Players who are interested in the magus can use this until a new update comes out with changes. Feel free to still use the original, just linking this as an option. Magus Remake.
For those who really liked the concept of the spellthief from 3.5e, a friend wrote this up. Be warned, it is VERY rough. However, we will allow it. Spellthief.
To answer an earlier question, we can post at least once a day, if not more. We expect players to post at least once every couple of days or so, but if they could post once per day themselves, that would be fantastic.
Kibeth
Posting for the dot.
By the way, I'm thinking hard of an elven paladin. Do I need to know details of a deity?
Yes you do. I will post some basic stuff for the big deities in a bit (like their domains, portfolios and a short description for some of them). If you decide for sure that you are playing a paladin or cleric and want a deity, pick one and I can give you a detailed rundown of the deity. If you have an idea of the type of deity you want to follow, make the deity up and send it to me.

Am thinking hard on what I want to play. But I would like to see what everyone else would like to play first. That way I can pick something from the same tier of power as them. I have seen alchemist and paladin so far. Anyone else please?
By the way hello to both of you. Do you live in Europe?
Sounds like you both will make a great team.

Finally had time to post here after the initial interest thread.
I'd like to submit a Zen Archer (or Weapon Adept) monk from the APG monk options, though, background-wise I'd also like to subvert quite a few fantasy monk conventions. For example, I'm thinking he'd be a high-ranking member of the thieves guild or perhaps be an independent subcontractor.
I can't recall off the top of my head if Tiefling is equivalent in power to the other races in pathfinder. I.e. I don't want to deal with a level adjustment. I also considered Ratkin, but thought that might a little too much TMNT-ish.
I hope to have a character build and part of the story up tomorrow, pending race selection.

Am still squeezing my mind to pull something out of it...but don't see a healer so far. Anyway i can play anything but would prefer my elven girl bard ( standard core book bard ); would consider a cleric, seems appropriate in this setting, but don't know the gods.

Those are the biggest players in the divine arena. Feel free to make up your own gods. If you are interested in any of the aforementioned gods, let me know and I will post specifics (As in you're wanting to play a paladin or cleric).
The good aligned gods of Sariel often convene in a Pantheon to make large decisions that affect the world.
Serule is the first Devil.
Nomuk is the first Demon.
In a rare act of Solidarity, the Pantheon convened with Serule and his defected gods in order to bring forth an Interdict preventing free travel by outsiders to the material plane. Any outsider wishing to translate to the material plane must either be summoned by a mortal, or sent there by an outsider powerful enough to do so (For example, a god, or demon prince or archdevil). For powerful outsiders, sending either themselves or their servants takes a significant amount of power, and thus it is not done often. Gods who choose to translate themselves onto the material plane directly also experience a state of comparative weakness for the duration of their stay. This also applies to any demi-gods, though not to the same degree.
Nethys is currently unavailable.
Also, I'd really like someone to play an arcane caster. I don't *need* it, but it would be nice. As far as the other roles/classes, I am indifferent. Play what you like.
The Justicar looks alright I guess. You can play it if you want. I personally I'm not a big fan of classes like that (Why not just play a paladin that's flavored the exact same way?). But if you want to, go ahead. I will warn you that classes like that can get awkward really quickly because they seem to imply an absolute sense of guilt or innocence, which, depending on the situation, is often unfair. Moral absolutes are fine and all, but what happens when you have a gray area and you try to use the capstone?

I've created a monster!
And no, I'm not talking about min-maxing. I could do far worse if I wanted. I'm talking about his background story.
Disclaimer 1). I am indebted to the name by Stephen R. Lawhead. If you want a good piece of historical fiction revolving around Robin Hood, I highly recommend his trilogy Hood. If you want a more scholarly defense of his atypical setting of said trilogy I recommend the notes at the back of those works.
Disclaimer 2). The conceit behind this story is that Robin's band of outlaws were actually outlaw (Zen Archer) monks, and not the more usual ranger.
Disclaimer 3). The story is written mainly for humorous effect and is entirely the product of my own depraved mind. Lawhead, Robin Hood, Paizo, WotC, and TSR should in no way be blamed.
Disclaimer 4). It may take me a day or two to actually finish the story since I do have to work for a living and have other responsibilities besides.
That being said, I'm happy (if not quite proud) to present Lord Rhi Bran "Sleepyhead" Hud, the (Zen Archer) Monk!
Edit: All that background eaten by the post monster! Background will probably not be up until tomorrow at the earliest.

Posting my interest again, and my concept. I can get a background up by the end of the day - I'll be using this name to make the character and etc.
So! I submit my concept! Pseudodragon Sorceror, to supply arcane power to our ranks. The only issue, is I can't find the racial modifiers for it.
I have a few ideas down on paper for a background, but nothing finalized yet. It'll take me a little bit of time.
Tik-Tik
The only issue, is I can't find the racial modifiers for it.
For monsters, you subtract 11 from uneven scores and 10 from the even scores.
So for Pseudodragon, the modifiers are: -4 Str, +4 Dex, +2 Con, and +2 Wis.
Also, because of the "Monsters as PCs" rule(go to the PRD for more information), you have 14 levels of Sorcerer and 2 racial hit dice.
Sucks psuedodragons can take the Dragon Disciple prestige class....
Kibeth
What is your hitpoint convention?
Max, absolute roll, absolute no ones, average, avg plus 1?
If rolled, do we roll them on site here?
You can take max at all levels. In case you guys haven't noticed, I'm going for REALLY high fantasy here haha (What with the double standard wealth and 25 point buy).
Seeing some really cool concepts. Can't wait for full apps with backstory and stats. Thanks guys.
Oh and again, my email is anuebunwa@gmail.com if anyone has any specific questions that they want to ask, or if they want to discuss a character concept in great detail.

So I figured out! (I also looked at your profile.)
The basics of his statline are up - I still need to do spells/equipment/background, but it's all good so far.
I'm going to take a look at what you have, Tik-Tik, and see if I can't get us integrated! Mwahahah!
EDIT: Expect many revisions - the final character sheet's statline will be done by 1600 EST. I'm still calculating all the little numbers from my racials...

I am working on pulling together a wizard for consideration. When were you going to close recruiting to make your choices?
At the start, for a wizard to have more spells that he gains through normal leveling up, do you want him to pay the scroll cost or the scroll cost plus the scribe cost? If a character has craft feats, do you want them to pay full price when buying the intitial items, and does that include enchanting their bonded object?
Thanks!

The scroll cost + the scribe cost. If you have the craft feats, you can pay half the market value as if you crafted your "starting" items yourself. Same goes for the bonded object. Doesn't make much sense to me to make you pay full price for your "initial" items when you're level 15 and you have taken feats so you can craft stuff. I think it's safe to assume that any character with craft feats will have spent the time to craft his own set of 15th level stuff by the time he/she reaches level 15.
Rhi Bran
Part I of the background is up.
Rhi Bran was born the eldest son and heir to a rather minor king. The king believed his son to be a lazy, ne'er-do-well who spent all his time failing to seduce the ladies (except for those who liked his 'bad boy' looks inherited from his Tiefling mother). Bran believed his father to be cruel, self-indulgent and constipated.
Bran was neither strong nor clever and demonstrated no great talent or aptitude for anything except sleeping. Indeed, Bran spent most of his trying to avoid getting sent out to collect taxes by sleeping, looking for girls who liked his 'bad boy' looks and sleeping. Occasionally one of the girls would mistake his sleepy silence for wisdom.
One day, Bran's father decided it was time to make his son a man or kill him trying. He sent a sizable gift to the only monastery on his lands with the condition that they train his son. His exact words, "Get him out of the house, and at least teach him weapons and social skills so that I'm not ashamed of my own heir!"
The Abbot came to visit the small castle to see Bran for himself before agreeing. Bran was duly dragged out of bed and brought to the archery range, for the Abbot had requested to see him shoot a single arrow. Wondering how he was going to make a fool of himself this time, Bran picked up the nearest bow (a longbow), toed the line and promptly fell asleep. Some little time passed, and Bran's father was well on his way to killing himself in a fit of apoplectic rage when the Abbot exclaimed in awe, "Look at that stance, Watch how he empties himself completely before even fitting an arrow to bow. And with those looks we can turn him into a rake you'll be proud of!"
The Abbot (nicknamed Tuck) was actually the titular head of a Silistrian order of nuns.
On the way to the monastery, Tuck explained the facts of life to Bran. "Look, we need money, and you need to get out of that place to gain a little sanity, but there's no reason we can't make this a win-win situation for both of us. We'll teach you a bit about weapons, including that bow you picked up, and how to survive on your own off the land. That will fulfill our contract with your father. In return for your help, we'll also teach you any three things you want."
Impressed by Tuck's wisdom and cunning, Bran readily agreed and immediately asked to be taught how to find pretty girls who would like his 'bad boy' looks (perception), how to be better in bed (acrobatics), and how to hide from angry fathers, brothers and ex-girlfriends (stealth).
Recognizing that the carrot would probably work better in this case than the stick, Tuck introduced Bran to his new tutor, 'French Maid' Marion. (Marion had acquired her nickname not for ethnicity, but for her monastic outfit.) Marion exclusively instructed Bran in all things social. While this didn't actually amount to much, they still spent quite a bit of (awake) time together. In fact, Bran didn't get much sleep at all his entire time at the monastery.
Amazingly, Bran noticed that the tricks of dexterity and focus that Marion taught him also translated into other areas, such as the bow, and fighting with the light weapons and clothing the nuns favored. He learned to strike quicker than a snake, run faster than the deer, and could track either through the worst conditions. His acrobatic prowess astounded all the nuns, and his 'bad boy' looks ensured that his silence was always mistaken for wisdom or deep thoughts.
One day, though, his time at the monastery came to an end, and Bran returned to the little castle to be presented to his father. Despite the fact that Bran had learned everything specified in the contract and had cured his narcolepsy besides, his father was not happy. Crueler, more self-indulgent and more constipated than ever, he saw that his heir had become a worthy nemesis, and outlawed Bran from his realm. Then he outlawed all monks for good measure.
However, Bran was now well-prepared to live off the land and more, was able to study the Way of the Bow under the tutelage of Tuck, and the Way of the Stick under 'French Maid' Marion. In time, his 'bad boy' looks drew other outlaws to him, all of whom clamored to be taught the secrets than Bran knew. Bran was so successful at teaching his men, that they became known as the Married Men.
