Discuss the Juju Mystery

Serpent's Skull

This thread is intended for the discussion of the new Juju mystery.

A quick brainstorming after the first read...

...what I like:
- using undead without being evil
- most revelations are a great fit thematically

...what I don't like:
- witches are better at making juju dolls (via Waxen Image) than the juju oracle

This was intentional; we didn't want to put ALL of the juju mojo (ha) into one class. Just as you can be a knight using the cavalier, the ranger, the paladin, or even the fighter, and just as you can be a necromancer via cleric, sorcerer, or wizard, you can be a juju-themed character via multiple classes, each of which do some elements better than the others.

I'm a big fan of the idea of having multiple classes to choose from after a concept. A jester could be a bard, obviously, but could also be a rogue, or perhaps even a monk- this is a very specific concept of course- but there you go. Robin hood could be a ranger, or a rogue, a fighter, even a cavalier or paladin (depending on how loosely you define lawful good- the Errol Flinn was pretty lawful, all things considered).

I think I just found my next PC. These guys look like a lot of fun to play, with a ton of great flavor.

I know.. My Players are starting Serpent's Skull but were shy of the Oracle.

(They readily believe and accept that the PF cleric has far more options than a 3.5 Cleric, but no one was strongly drawn to a strong divine class.. instead I got a more combat oriented druid, a witch, and an Inquisitor)

I'm always the GM, but I think this Oracle Mystery is cool as hell. I'd play one!

Gahh, I wish I could afford this issue just to get the Juju oracle- but I'm saving up. Would it be wrong for it to be posted here? I'm not sure on the exact rules on this sort of thing.

Almost all of the rules mechanics in Pathfinder products are open content. That basically means that reprinting the rules requires you to also print the entire OGL along with those reprinted rules, and the implication is that you should add new open content along the way in order to ADD to the game.

As for posting the rules flat out here on the messageboards... I'd rather not have folks do that here.

I think so friend. If content is given away for free, they wouldn't be able to make new content or pay their employees. It would ruin Christmas.

On the bright side, that particular Chapter makes a damn fine stand alone purchase. It's very open-ended adventure and applicable to a homebrew game. So unless you really dislike any purchased adventures, I don't think you'll feel bad buying this one as a stand alone book.

EDIT: James said it better, and with clear authority.

HOWEVER, I stand behind what I said.. If one were to buy this as a stand alone book.. I don't think you'd feel hard done by. This one is easily portable.

I figured that was the case, I'll just have to wait until pay day.

Or you can check out the Archives of Nethys, where all your prayers are heard and answered.

Awesome, thanks.

James? I know it's asking somewhat of alot but please consider adding a bit of wording in the False Death ability as well as the Greater Ganji Doll item that stats that the Oracle can choose (if he or she wishes) not to have the charmed/dominated being look like a undead while he/she/it is being controlled. I'd appreciate that if possible.

It pleasantly surprised me; very cool and unexpected. It raised the oracle in my estimation.

I sincerely hope to see more new mysteries like this introduced in future products.
