Rise of the Runelords - Recruiting PbP

Gamer Connection

The Exchange

Hi all,

I'm going to launch my second game on the threads and I'm opening recruitment for it. As the title suggests, it'll be Runelords, a great AP and one I've wanted to run for an age.

If you're interested, please submit a synopsis of your character idea with the following information as a basis.

- All classes from Core and APG are available
- Only books available are Core rules, GM guide, Advanced players guide, Campaign setting (though we'll need to pathfinderise some of those rules since it was written with 3.5 rules intially). Please do not use anything outside those books for a character concept.
- Your background must tie you to Sandpoint, the starting town for the AP. However, if you are a local, I want you to be returning to the town after a long absence (some years at least).
- The players guide is a free download so please have a read through that as a guide to the area.
- You can either take two traits from the APG (only APG traits acceptable) or one of the campaign feats provided in the players guide.

At this stage I don't want an entire character build (notice I haven't given points etc), only concepts and backgrounds.

Because this is an AP, I will be looking to ensure a relatively balanced party (at least one each from Fighter type, Skill user, Arcane caster, Divine caster and I'll fill the others as I feel fit the nature of the game best). This means less work from me to balance the game to the group, and time is a resource I must manage on this.

I'll not be starting the actual game for at least two weeks, and will recruit for a few days to give as many people as possible a chance to submit.

I'll recruit both veterens and new players, so don't feel you'll be at a disadvantage here if you haven't tried this before.

Time zones don't matter as post rate will be around once per day, maybe a bit less in busy times.

If you're still intersted, feel free to post and we'll get this started.

Cheers

Hey Wrath, would love to play but I must confess...I've read the whole thing. Was going to run it for a group but, alas, it's just not going to happen.

I will say I like playing my character as he would go, not as I would know to go. It's far more interesting. But I also understand that is neither here nor there. So let me know if it's okay or not to submit a character.

Totally understand if it's a no go, seeing how there will be plenty of those signing up who have never ran in it and know nothing about it.

How much of a concept do you want? Do you want something simple, like, outcaste Serpentine Sorceress of the Tamiir Quah, hoping to settle down in Sandpoint for a quiet life, doing errands and tasks for lady Kaye?

(that is my submission, by the way)

Or did you want it fleshed out a bit more than that?

I would submit Jaed, my tengu rogue, but tengu isn't a race allowed according to your list.

Have fun all.

PS I'm currently running a RotR pbp myself, and I ran RotR nearly to the end IRL, until I moved.

Raodan "Rao" Redflame

He craved variety. Of course, if what everyone said about Half-Elves was true, then they always craved variety as a factor of their birth. For him, it was that in the busiest streets, most distracting moments, there was a sense of peace at the heart of it all.. It was as if everything was so busy, that the heart of the moment was like the heart of a flame.

A port child, he saw the stars when they came out, having employed his stealth to sneak onto an empty wharf, bobbing along with the tide, and brushed shoulders with all manner of traveler, from the local Shoanti to the exotically overdressed Taldans, and everything between. Some, he spent time with, others he learned to avoid, but he did learn. His father, master of odd jobs, claims that he was the result of some time he spent with an adventurer that stayed here while she recuperated.

Whatever his origin, he knows that he is going to burn bright. He was going to make sure that he did so.
Elemental (Fire) Sorcerer/Monk of the Four Winds
Charming, Fast-Talker

Hello!!

I'd like to give it a shot. kinda new to Role-Playing in general, but I've read the Core Rulebook and the APG, and the RotR beginner's guide...so I'll give it a shot, heh.

I suppose the concept would be of a traveling True Neutral Alchemist hailing from Absalom, drawn to Varisia's various ruins, relics and legends, hoping to find knowledge to improve his skills with potions and concoctions.

his ties to Sandpoint would be kinda thin; just the fact that his current destination is Hollow Mountain, a place of which he's heard plenty of rumors and tales along his travels in this wild land. Sandpoint is the next stop in his expedition, as he restocks and proceeds to Magnimar, the last town on the way to that place.

that's just the base gist and idea of what I had in mind...hopefully it's not full of fail, hehe.

Character Submission:

Jo'no Screaminghawk
Shoanti Wizard
Neutral Good

Jo'no was born to the Shriikirri-Quah. A few days after his birth, his tribe was savaged by a pack of wyverns which decended and decimated his tribe, killing the entire camp.

A few days later a guide from Sandpoint was leading a some traders back from the Storval Plateau when they heard what sounded like the high pitched call of a hawk. The sound echoed endlessley through the tattered remains of the tribe's camp. The guide was shocked to find that this ear preircing sound was being emitted from such a small child.

The guide brought the child to Sandpoint and provided it to his sister, Lita who was overjoyed with the opportunity to raise the child. Lita was not an attractive woman by any definition, and doubted her ability to meet a man that would want to help her start a family. Raising the child did prove challenging, as she was also apprenticing to be a wizard, but out of sheer love for the child she easily overcame the burdens.

Honoring Jo'no's people's traditions, she gave him an appropriate Shoanti name. While raising Jo'no, Lita realized he was very intuitive and quickly picked up some of the magic tricks she taught him. As Lita became an accomplished wizard, she took on Jo'no as an apprentice. Lita ensured taht Jo'no understood the importance of knowledge in his studies. At the age of 16, he decided that he wanted to seek out his people and learn of his origin.

Lita was very concerned about this as she knew too well what the Shoanti often did to outsiders in their lands. Jo'no was clever though, and she had faith that he would be able to convince the tribes to not kill him. The guide that had saved him had taught him the language of the Shoanti, so Lita knew that would be a great asset.

Jo'no traveled into the Storval Plateau and first encountered another clan. The clan deemed Jo'no's bastardization of the Shoanti lanuage as a great offence and almost killed, had it not been for a Shriikirri-Quah elder visiting the clan. Jo'no spoke the tale of his finding by the guide, to the elder. The elder knew of Jo'no's tribe and did confirm that they had all been killed in the wyvern attack.

Jo'no travelled with the elder to the Shriikirri-Quah lands and was introduced to the elder's tribe. The tribe seemed intrigued by him and after a time welcomed him. His magical talents were given great respect by the tribe. A witchdoctor of the tribe took Jo'no on as an apprentice. It was difficult for the witchdoctor to understand why Jo'no needed a spellbook and could not just cast magic naturally. Because of this, they always thought of Jo'no as having very little potential as a witchdoctor so he was never involved in some of the more important ceremonies.

Jo'no spent two years living with the tribe. Occasionally he was able to send letters to his mother via guides that passed through their lands. They were fairly deep within the Storval Plateau though, so not many opportunties afforded themselves. Although he became very accustomed to tribal life, he felt that his capacity to learn was not being utilized. In truth, he grew bored. He departed the clan and decided to return to his magical studies in Sandpoint.

Personality:
Jo'no was raised to be mentally disciplined, cool-headed and non-judgemental. His mother truely was ugly, and given that she studied magic it was not uncommon to hear children in the streets calling out "old witch" and "night hag". Jo'no was taught to be patient and in control of his emotions.

In the two years he spent with his people, he learnt to be proud of his origin and of the importance of honor.

As long as you can keep player knowledge and character knowledge separate I don't mind if you've read the AP. I tend to change details anyway, so you may find surprises along the way if you make it in. Go ahead and put something together if you want a shot at it.

I need class etc to try and judge a balanced group.

I need background to get a handle on your creativity and to see how I can mesh your character into the game world.

About as detailed as Algus gave is fine, though something like Kor's would be nice too.

Vald Firehand
LN fighter human

Vlad grew up in Korvosa, his father was a struggling merchant from Cheliax and his mother was a native Korvosan. Vlad grew up on the streets, his parents having little time to spare to help their son; Vlad learned how to deal with his own problems. He was placed at the temple were he learned how to help the sick and needy, but he was a troublesome child, he had a very strong sense of right and wrong, his moral compass was above even the laws, at least in his eyes, which meant he got into trouble often. It wasn’t long before he learned how to get out of trouble without needing to use a blade, though he became rather used to using one anyway.

Because of his strong sense of morality, he found Korvosa too complex for his liking, the way of life was more complicated than what he liked, and so he grew hating the city. Rumours of a small town far away from Korvosa started trickling down, a place called Sandpoint, far away from Korvosa, this small town was simple, new and in need. Vlad wasn’t dumb, if he could solve one or two of this small town’s problems he could become their hero. He could live a simple and toil free life.

Vlad’s code is simple, allies are to be trusted, depended on, never lied to and protected, enemies are the complete opposite and should not be given second chances. Vlad grew up treating anyone he didn’t know as an enemy until proven otherwise, which in the big city made him a lot of enemies.

hehe, I'm not quite good at detailing. I used to be, but I guess I've lost writing practice. T_T

the Class and concept of the character is mainly that of a knowledge seeker, a perfectionist of sorts. Irori would be the deity he'd pray to, and the like....but being an Alchemist, he's not going to be always in the lawful path. after all, crazy experiments are the bread and butter of the class, right? :D

a more detailed background or idea that I have is that he was the son of a scholarly man, who collected many books and scrolls; being just a curious kid, the character would eventually stumble upon books regarding alchemy and the like....and he'd end up having "the touch" that all alchemists seem to have.

from there the kid would grow trying to learn more of the art, probably fueled by the more complex goals of alchemy, like eternal youth, or the philosopher's stone and the like. of the more interesting goals he'd have would be to visit another dimension, another world of untold, undiscovered knowledge and secrets. it's this thirst for knowledge that drives him to try more and more experiments, until...

at a later age (22 or so)he would end up being cast away from Absalom and his home, when he ends up creating and imbibing his first (imperfect) Mutagen: seeing how everyone would immediately react with alarm to the sight of a feral, raging, mindless beast, he was quickly chased off the city, forced to leave the isle of Absalom through water, swimming to the shore. it would've been impossible had he not been under the effect of the mutagen, which granted him increased strength and stamina.

after that incident, the man would end up traveling to Andoran. The Land of the Free would actually receive him warmly: easily finding asylum and jobs with several merchants as he sold his various alchemical products and found more and more tomes to read. a couple of years later, he'd find out about Varisia and its great, ancient ruins. feeling that perhaps in that place he'll find the great knowledge he seeks, and having gained a reasonable amount of money, he chose to make a long expedition to Varisia.

his stay in Andoran created a sort of mixup in his beliefs: having been extremely dogmatic and "by-the-book" in his ways of experimentation ever since the incident of the Mutagen, the spirit of freedom in that land caused him to gain more and more resolve, more confidence in his own skills, and hey, perhaps he'll need that Mutagen sooner or later.

so as he traveled to Varisia, he began improving and refining his skills each day. eventually also taking up a bit of marksmanship(mainly due to the fear of having unstable chemical vials blow up from a melee blow), and further improving upon his knowledge, by the time he's at Sandpoint he's essentially a Lv. 1 Alchemist.

so there, hehe. perhaps this is a better, more fleshed out background? kinda made it out of spontaneous ideas, but perhaps it can be of your liking.

True finished her last day as a templar in Magnimar serving in the training barracks of Iomedae. The soul of duty and honour has been hardened by the constant routine and prayer for her God. Now a warrior in her own right, True intends to return home to Sandpoint and find out why her family have stopped writing to her in the last few months.

True Vigileon is a cleric of Iomedae (holy warrior variant from the Campaign Setting). The sabbatical may turn into a lengthier stay if she finds that her faith is greatly needed, great enough to convince her superiors.

Please ignore the alias profile on her she originally played in an Age of Worms Game that fell by the wayside and will be updated if I am lucky with this.

I'd like to put forth Andok, unarmed warrior of the Sklar-Quah (Human monk).

Andok grew up among the Shoanti barbarians of the Sklar-Quah clan. Where his friends and companions preferred the wild abandon of battle, Andok taught himself the peaceful stillness of a finely-honed mind and how to apply that in battle. At times the more foolhardy warriors would seek to challenge Andok, mistaking his smaller physique and understated battle philosophy as weakness. None ever made that mistake a second time.

As he's gotten older, his desire to hone his mental and physical capabilities has increased. Feeling that the mental stillness he seeks is unlikely to happen in the raucous life of his barbarian tribe, he has set off on his own to seek his fortunes among the city-dwellers to the south. Equipped with only a few of the tribe's alchemical treasures and a few gold pieces, he's set off towards Sandpoint, the nearest city, to see about starting a mercenary way of life in order to hone his skills and learn the ways of other societies.

I made Andok for another game that hasn't left the ground yet, despite months of waiting - I'd love a chance to see him in action.

I'm interested! I'll present something soon.

Just to give me an idea, did you have a deadline in mind?

I'm interested as well but I'm currently at work so it will be about 8 hours before I could present a character concept or look over the materials. If that puts me out of the main group I'd like to at least apply for the waiting list.

Thanks.

I'd like to join a new PbP again ... I've recovered some of my spare time ... this might be a good way to fill that time :)

I'd like to present Delwyn Mane, an ex-korvosian soldier turned mercenary carrying a falchion and looking like he can put that blade to good use.

He has been using his blade ever since he could barely lift it and has mastered it's use beyond normal proficiency.

When looking at hime from a distance he doesn't stand out in a crowd, not good looking and not ugly. But when talking to him face to face, there is a glimmer of intelligence about him that belies his stature.

His last job involved guarding a merchant to Sandpoint, a dull and boring job, but it pays for food and a roof over one's head.

Currently looking for a new job, he has taking up residence in The Rusty Dragon Inn.

(As mentioned he will be wielding a falchion and will later try to disarm his enemies while hitting them where it hurts ;) (with disarming strike))

Hi Wrath. Here's my character concept. Thanks for considering my submission!

Feldspar Flamebeard, Dwarven Paladin of Torag (Warrior of the Holy Light archetype):

From his birth it was clear that Feldspar was destined to serve Torag, for his forehead was marked by the red lines of a warhammer, the shape of the hammer's haft following the slope of his nose. (As per the Birthmark trait)

The youngest son of a wealthy merchant of Janderhoff, Feldspar's fortuitous birth proved a boon for his father and in gratitude he offered his newborn son to the church of Torag so that the church could raise him as they saw fit.

The rather obvious result was that Feldspar received the best education a dwarf could get while enduring an utterly sheltered life. The worship of Torag was his world and he was never given an opportunity to consider anything else.

For the first several decades, he was more than content with his lot. Intelligent, wise for his years and committed to his service, he seriously considered joining the church as a cleric to the God of the forge but was driven to a different calling. Though he was not the strongest of his race and certainly not the most agile, he was nevertheless quite skilled with Torag's chosen weapon and the dorn duergar of his ancestors and experienced a curious euphoria in the heat of battle as he practiced at destroying evil and punishing the wicked.

And then there were the dreams. All his life, Feldspar dreamt of light, a thundering voice speaking words he could not quite understand, and of a small town on the edge of the sea. Since he’d never gone anywhere at all, he had no idea where this town could be, but he felt drawn to it. There was something important about it, a vital urgency that called to him.

Recently, as he completed his training as a Paladin in Torag’s service and began to prepare to leave the quiet solitude of the church grounds for the harsh world beyond it’s walls, he devoted his studies to the geography of Varisia, outwardly desiring to know something about the country he was born to but inwardly hoping to find the place of his dreams.

As he poured over old tomes and faded maps, his eyes fell on a name. “Sandpoint.” Without even realizing it, he said the world aloud, feeling the shape of the letters on his tongue and remembering the roaring voice in his dreams.

Scrabbling quickly through the pile of maps before him, Feldspar found the one he was looking for. Sandpoint, a small fishing town on the edge of the sea. He thought of the dream, the thundering roll of a voice that he could not quite understand, the quiet town with its docks, the ships at the harbor, the black marks where a church had once stood.

Straightening, Feldspar stood and began to gather the maps and books together. He knew where he must go: Sandpoint.

Okay, let's give it a shot.

Zenovia Tamiir-Quah:

Zenovia was born to the Tamiir people of the Shoanti, the daughter of seamstress and a fine warrior who perished in a raid on the Chelish. To her tribe's disappointment, Zenovia displayed little aptitude for combat, instead demonstrating a gift for the arcane that first manifested as a gift with animals, especially serpents. Zenovia was apprenticed to her tribe's medicine man, but also displayed little talent for healing, and her people frowned on magics that did not heal, and distrusted serpents. Zenovia was left with two unpalatable options. Stay with her mother and apprentice as a seamstress, or marriage to the medicine man so her talent might mingle with his and eventually benefit the tribe. Zenovia chose neither, instead running away from the tribe and finding a Varisian community who took her in and nurtured her arcane talent.

Zenovia loved her time with the wandering Varisian clan. In return for taking her in and teaching her, she helped the clan the only way she knew how; sewing. What formerly was a dreaded chore turned into sheer delight, as she discovered that she had a passion for the colorful scarves the Varisians wore. Upon discovering this talent, the clan taught her how to dance with the scarves, and later, how to climb with them, hide things in them, and (very quietly) even to fight with them. This last was to end her time with the clan.

Several of the women, already jealous of the striking young lady, claimed she was a spy, sent to ferret out all the clan secrets. Though few believed the charge, enough chaos and trouble was caused that Zenovia left of her own accord. Now homesick for her own people, she traveled to the Viperwall, hoping to ask a local oracle what she needed to do to finally find a place of her own. She never saw the oracle.

A band of ruffians or brigands ambushed her outside the Viperwall, captured her, and took her to Riddleport to sell. Zenovia used her talents to escape and decided to hide in Sandpoint, vowing to settle down, live quietly and not cause trouble. Zenovia supports herself with her sewing and doing the odd task for Lady Kaye, creating or mending exotic garments, and has a soft spot for the girls, quietly keeping an eye on them to ensure no ill befalls them.

Personality: Zenovia is strong-willed and independent, but shy, especially around other women. She loves colorful garments, especially scarves and usually wearies at least one flamboyant bit of clothing. She loves animals, especially reptiles, but is terrified of having to flee her new home, so she downplays her arcane abilities in public.

Traits: Exile (pursued by slavers), Well Traveled (Diplomacy)
Class: Sorceress (Serpentine Bloodline)
Spells: (Zenovia specializes in illusion, enchantment and summoning spells)

I spy a Shoanti theme starting! *helps*

Ramus Skoan-Quah
Spirit Totem Barbarian

Spoiler:

...The spirits favor some more than others.

Ramus was born into the Skoan-Quah under ill omens. His mother's life was taken by a vengeful ghost that had not been placated, requiring that he had to be cut out of the womb. He survived, as he was Shoanti, but he was marked. He had known the company of spirits since he could remember. Only when he grew older did they spoke less and less frequently, though he knew that they still accompanied him.

Travel was required in Skull-clan dealings. Some ancestors would not be placated without proper offerings, and it was on occasion that those offerings could not be obtained without effort. Always, Ramus was one of those sent to acquire the items. Whether the elders considered him good fortune, or bad luck best sent elsewhere, he did not mind. He had seen much of Varisia, and could truly never claim to be alone.. The spirits traveled with him. He could feel it.

Liberty's Edge

I present for your inspection:

Michael "The Wolf" Call

This character is a human rogue.

Michael is assumed by his friends in the cities that he travels as "The Wolf" because of his roguish ways with the ladies. It seems that there is always some sweet young thing in his sights. It was this fact that had him dismissed from the seminary to become a paladin of Iomedae. Well, this and his complete lack of discipline at things he deemed esoteric. For example he could focus at sword training, but religious studies found him frequently asleep or too "sick" to attend class.

Those whom he has worked with assume that he is called "the Wolf" because of his ability to see what others missed. His powers of observation were remarkable. These combined with his ability to sense when others meant ill for him and then to bluff or intimidate his way out the situation has kept him alive this long.

The truth is that he is called “The Wolf” by the band of urchins he used to run with because of his ability to survive. With this always as his foremost goal he was fine with walking away from fights that would have preserved his honor. He has survived poverty and adapted to it requiring very little in the way of creature comforts. The winter of his tenth year was the hardest, but he survived mostly on boiled leather. He does not talk of those times and in fact pretends they never happened. Michael is quite content to let others believe whatever they believe.

While the quintessential naer-do-well, he has a good heart and is intensely loyal to those he calls friend. He is tall and thin and has piercing blue eyes and dark hair. He is very willing to adapt to what life throws at him and finds himself at the adventures starting point trying to escape an angry merchant whose daughter he is accused of impregnating.

Please note that this was done at my lunch break, and I do not have my books here. I will fill in traits later. My experience level is low. I have some experience with pbp and Pathfinder but not much.

Tania Teg
Wandering young Varisian storyteller, driven to travel the world, fascinated since her tender youth by the wonders of Ancient Thassilon.
Class: Bard, possibly Arcane Duelist from the APG.

Description:

With long straight hair of brown and crimson, Tania Teg has a pretty chiseled face, crowned with eyes of a beautiful green. Her golden skin and green eyes clearly show a Varisian heritage, yet her straight hair betrays some Cheliaxian contribution. She stands tall and graceful, with an athletic build clearly showing under the simple, but well kept, dark gray traveler’s garment she wears on the road. A careful look at her will let show a fire and a passion in her eyes that can only be fueled by some higher purpose.

Her voice has a clearness that reminds one of the spring winds whistling through the fledgling new leaves announcing a glorious summer. Her movements are sensual, yet powerful and precise, showing an awareness and a cultivation of ones graces, talents and attractiveness.

Background:

Born of a Chelaxian father and a Varisian mother, Tania spent her tender youth in Sandpoint, with her father, Leandre Teg, a municipal clerk. He remained an important and well balanced figure of her youth, transmitting the better values of his own heritage. She received letters from her mother every month, who had moved away sometime after Tania's birth, called by her Varisian blood to walk the world. Through the letters, she discovered, beyond the simple and effective beauty of words, a world filled with wonders, a world becoming through the eyes of the traveler.

Tania enjoyed above all the tales of ancient Thassilon, told by her mother through her description of the colossal ruins that she visited and described with such realism and mysticism. Tania started to collect knowledge of Thassilon and even started learning the basics of their ancient language.

Soon enough, she announced to her father that the road was also calling her. His eyes were filled with tears, but his heart knew that destiny could not be stalled. He let her go, making her only promise to return one day, before his death; a promise he had forgotten to ask of his lost beloved.

Tania joined the traveling Varisians, learning their trade, their traditions and the subtle arts of seduction and deception. she developed a better understanding of Thassilon, which led her to dabble in Varisian magic.

Remembering her promise, she now returns to Sandpoint, after an absence of five years.

Advancement Projects:

Bard (Arcane Duelist) and possibly some levels in Ranger (or Fighter with the bonus feat replace with two additional skill points, as the Campaign Setting option).

well, people seem to be placing a whole lot of effort into it <_< at least, IMO. it's weird that you can't edit posts in this forum....if I could I'd just add information to my background post, but...I guess this'll do. I guess I will just add a couple more info to solidify the character concept, taking inspiration from Dreaming Warforged's post:

Character Name: Algus Vordhosbn

Description:

A rather humble-looking, stern man, stands around 6 feet tall, of a sturdy complexion. he has short dark hair that is left rather unkempt and weary brown eyes that are hidden under a rather unsettling mask, which he wears these due to the substantial amount of damage his face has taken from all the various failed experiments; a face full of scars hides beneath it.

aside from that, there are no true remarkable things about the man's appearance: humble chemist garbs and gloves designed to protect from the various harmful substances he works with, straps and belts designed to hold vials and bottles, and a traveling backpack where he holds most of his materials and resources. in hand, he is almost always seen carrying some sort of tome, reading it often when in safety and peace.

His voice is soft and calm; unfitting to his appearance, sounding always with a strange tone of kindness and understanding, which tends to increase the uneasiness and distrust of the person, as it always feels as if the voice lures into a false sense of safety. in reality, the various experiments and beverages he's drank in order to reach his current skill level has taken a great toll on his body, thus his voice has gone down from the more normal tones.

Class concept and advancing expectations:

Alchemist/Fighter(Crossbowman Variant from the APG): I'm thinking about giving him a more combat-heavy focus, along with a more "explorer/Knowledge-seeker" vibe, by giving him Swim and Climb from the fighter skills: mainly to reflect that the more he advances, the more he's prepared for the various places he'll have to traverse to get to his goal.

Traits:

Scholar of Ruins(Knowledge(Dungeoneering) as Class Skill)

World Traveler(Knowledge(Local) as Class Skill)

taking both of these make sense to me in the character concept, given how far the folk has traveled(from Andoran to Varisia), as well as the knowledge and desire to explore the ruins of the ancients.

so there, that's a bit more info about the character I'd like to play as.

The Exchange

Some good submissions so far.

As a heads up, I'm going to be accepting French Wolf and Wander Weir straight up. I know them both well enough to feel they are going to be an asset to a game like this.

That fills Divine (FW's Cleric), and Fighter type (WW's Paladin).

Still four slots to go and I won't make that decision until tomorrow morning.

Note, just because I've filled two of the 4 types I need for the game, it doesn't mean I won't select another character of similar roll in one of the remaining 4 places, just so you know.

FW and WW, feel free to start fleshing your charaters out with mechanics etc. I'll crate an OOC thread after I make my final decisions tomorrow morning (My time :) )

Cheers

Thank you Wrath. Congratulations Wander Weir too.

Good luck everyone else, Wrath is a top DM so give it your best shot.

Cheers

I'd like to enter Rhianni Verdani, a female human Varisian entertainer and mystic.

Background:
Originally from lands west of Nybor down to the Yondatakari River her nomadic people were led through the divine and mystical powers of her mother Juinahia. Her mother, a sorceress/cleric who read the dreams and fortunes of her people, passed down her knowledge, or all that she could to her only daughter Rhianni. But Rhianni's fate like the destiny of many, led by her dreams to make her way for Sandpoint, where the either she will meet with greatness or die in the trials and challenges she will face. Her mother has given her a silver charm, which she wears around her neck for luck and to remind her of the family and people she left behind. She plans to best the challenges she will face and once she has proved herself, will return to her people and take up her mother's place. In doing this, it will allow her mother to seek peace with the spirits of the world and death, before passing trough to the other world. This is the circle that bring all things to peace and fulfilment, so the sages say. The Rhianni will complete her circle and guide her people, giving them hope and connection with the worlds within and without.

Both she and her mother know the power of dreams, and manipulate the destiny of their people through them, or through moulding the dreams of others. As it was fortold, her father died shortly after she was born and the families of her nomadic people provided for both her and her mother, as was right and proper. It is the way with the customs of the people. It too will be Rhianni's fate, when the time to choose a mate is upon her.

Currently Rhianni is making her way in Sandpoint by telling fortunes, and otherwise entertaining people. She has a small stall close to the Sandpoint Theatre, where she makes small money by reading the palms of the theatre goers before they enter for their nights entertainment. Though most of what she does is a sham, the people of Sandpoint enjoy the diversion from their normal lives. Rhianni will also read the stars, the crystal ball or even cards when the price is right. Though most might be wishful thinking on the part of her patrons, sometimes when Rhianni feels, sees or reads their dreams or communes with the stars, the fortunes are predicted with some accuracy.

In all this Rhianni knows she is just treading water, waiting for fate to present the challenge to help her grow in power and knowledge.

I expect Rhianni to be a Sorcerer of the Dreamspun bloodline, although she could equally be an Oracle of the Heavens Mystery or Wizard(Diviner). But I'd like to try her as a Sorcerer. I would see her having at least 1 rank in Perform(Oratory) or Profession(Fortune Teller). She is probably going to be more into enchantments/illusions/divination rather than doing massive damage type of magic.

Background:

Joe is an easy going farm boy who is from the outskirts of Sandpoint and is tired of the farm life. He's ready to make his own way in the big city of Magnimar first and then wherever after that. Spent all his years growing up working the land and figures enough is enough. Let's go see what's out there. The road has been calling him anyway.

What Joe doesn't realize is that his farming ability isn't as good as it should be. It's not because he can't do the work or even that he doesn't do it well, it's just that he's bad about getting around to it. He would spend most of his time daydreaming of the grandest adventures and lots of gold. Obviously that interfered with his work. So his father figured it was time to send him on his way, seeing how Joe was never gonna lose that desire of adventure. And as much as his mother didn't want him to go, she knew it'd be good for him. Time for him to grow up, they agreed. Plus, as excited as Joe was to hear they were going to let him go and find his adventure, it wasn't to hard to convince him.

Needless to say, Joe found his way back home after spending all that he had and with nothing to show for it. He was very disappointed in the fact that it wasn't as easy as he dreamed it to be. He didn't let it keep him down to long as he got back to helping his family with the farming and was far better because of it.

He's a Human fighter. Just a straight tank. Far better in melee than ranged. He uses a Scythe. Has a good ol' boy attitude, Bo Duke if you will.

Chaotic Good worships Cayden Cailean. I can post during the week, only on weeknights. Around 6:00 US Central time and on. Weekends I can post throughout.

I ran this character in Scipion's Master of the Fallen Fortress one shot.

Thanks Wrath! Congrats right back to you, French Wolf. Looking forward to RPing with you.

Luck to all.

I would like to submit the half-elf Thanoi Auror a ships Wizard.

Spoiler:

Orphaned, lost and starving, Thanoi was barely surviving, much less living until he tried to steal from The Teacher, a wizard of some power, living incognito in a middle class part of Sandport. Rather than call the guards or create a commotion, The Teacher took Thanoi in as an indentured servant/slave. After a year of serving the wizard in this manner, the relationship changed to more of a master / student bond and Thanoi began learning the ways of magic.

Several happy years passed for Thanoi in which he learned much. Eventually The Teacher bade Thanoi to leave Sandport and put his magic to use outside the confines of the simple town.

Not really sure where to go or what to do he wandered down to the harbor where he happened across a First Mate recruiting for a patrol ship that had lost some crew in the last big storm, and had drifted into town to make repairs. Not knowing what else to do or where to go, Thanoi signed up.

It wasn't long until the captain realized that Thanoi was no regular sailor and began putting his magic to use. Things like Dancing Lights and Ghost sound were used to frighten superstitious sailors on enemy ships while Obscuring Mist was used for those occasions when stealth was the better part of valor.

After 6 years at sea hunting the pirates that sail the coasts of Varisia, Thanoi's ship has finally returned to Sandport, the closest thing to a home he has ever known.

Thanks for the chance to present a character!

Quinion Trepanar, Rogue Guardsman (Not what it sounds like)

Background:
Quinion grew up in Korvosa, and like his father before him (and his father, and his father, for at least six generations) he served in the Guard. Unfortunately, ever since the fall of Aroden, the style of guardwork practiced by the Trepanar family has become less and less acceptable. When once their primary duties were keeping the peace, Quinion found more and more often that the focus of his barracks was no longer on serving the neighborhood, but on finding someone to punish...sometimes with little regard as to actual guilt.

Finally, Quinion's compassion went too far. Having caught a small child attempting to filch the purse of Aerodus Alazario, a member of Korvosa's new gentry. Quinion refused Aerodus' order to take the child's hand to make an example, and when Aerodus attempted to do so himself, Quinion drew his guard issued shortsword and faced him down. As a result, Quinion found himself challenged to a duel. To everyone's surprise, including his own, Quinion won, leaving a bloody and unconscious 'Sir' Alazario on the green.

Knowing the political climate, Quinion's father told him to get out of the guard, and get as far from Korvosa and the reach of the Alazario family as possible, so with his Watch Commander's letter of recommendation in hand, he headed westn towards Magnimar. As a reference from a Korvosan Watch Commander was worthless in Magnimar, Quinion has headed to Sandpoint to see if Sheriff Hemlock can use a deputy...

(Guardsmen, at least lower class ones, are often issued light armor and shortswords, and it seems a sap or truncheon is a natural weapon for a guard not necessarily bent on killing troublemakers...so a skilled rogue seemed like a natural for a City Guardsman. Quinion is NG, lacking the strong lawful bent of many Chelaxians. He can get nasty if needed, but it's not his inclination. Yes, he'll still have stills like disable device, sometimes a good cop needs to get places he's not welcome, and people who smash in doors get noticed.)

Description:
Tall and thin, Quinion shows classic Chelaxian traits, sharp-featured and pale. His body language is fairly relaxed however, unless he is angry.

Personality:
Quinion is fairly pleasant, unless he sees people taking advantage of others. He moves with an easy grace, and blends in socially.
His only sore point is religion; the Trepanar family were devotees to Aroden for generations..."Our god up and died on us, so you'll forgive me my disinterest in yours."

Traits:
Militia Veteran - Your first job was serving in a civilian militia in your home town. Skills learned through daily drilling and protecting your fellow townsfolk gave you special insight into military life. Select one of the following skills: Profession (soldier), Ride, or Survival. You gain a +1 trait bonus on that skill, and it is always a class skill for you. (In this case, read 'Militia' as 'City Guard')
Outlander: Exile - You are not from Sandpoint; you’ve recently come from somewhere else and are hoping to make your fortune here.
For whatever reason, you were forced to flee your homeland. Chance or fate has brought you to Sandpoint, and it’s here that your money ran out, leaving you stranded in this small town.
You are also being pursued by enemies from your homeland, and that has made you paranoid and quick to react to danger. You gain a +2 trait bonus on Initiative checks. (I took this from the Shadows over Sandpoint Traits in the APG, as it fit the backstory perfectly. The enemies described would be Aerodus Alazario, his family, his mommy, and probably his wet nurse, all of whom seem irked that Quinion didn't just fall down and die for the sake of the Alazario family reputation.)

The Exchange

Still some time for folks coming late to the party.

I will compile a list of submissions so far and go over them tonight, and with luck will let you know tomorrow morning my final choices. I'm in GMT +10 just to let you know, so my Morning time is most likley your night or late afternoon I believe (for most of you).

Cheers

This character, or some version of this character has started in at least 3 other ROTRL campaigns that died.

Idrian is a ranger going for arcane archer

History: Idrian grew up in Mierini Forest. He was looked down upon for his half human heritage, but he persevered. Once he had learned all he needed to learn, Idrian left home. He went to stay with his human kin for a time, but found he didn't quite fit in there either. After that, Idrian traveled for several years looking for a new place to call home or more accurately a place to call home for the first time. About five years ago, he came to the Sandpoint area. He’s worked as a bounty hunter, woodsman, and sometimes a mercenary. Idrian would come to town a few times each season to resupply, collect bounties, and look for work. It’s been five years and Idrian knows it’s at the point where he needs to decide to either make Sandpoint his home or move on to someplace else. He came to the Swallowtail Festival to talk with those he’s befriended over the last few years and make his decision.

I don't know, man, it sounds like Idrian has got a campaign curse! :)

The Exchange

Here's the link to the ooc thread. Those I've already chosen can head on over. When I get the final list it means folks can get in there as soon as they need to in order to build their characters.

Cheers

Hi Wrath

I'd be up for this also - I'll post a more detailed version of my character when I get home from work and can access my notes

In short though he's Skåne “Countless” Ingvârssonn; a Male Ulfen bard with the Savage Skald archetype... much more to come soon!

BD

The Exchange

Well, the time has come around. I had quite a few very good applications and this was a hard choice at times. Generally I went with the feel of the character more than anything else, although in one case I chose with party options in mind, since all the submissions in that area where quite good.

Ok, those I'd ask to join in the OOC thread are

Dax Thura - For his ranger
Dreaming Warforged - Bard
Kor - Shoanti Wizard (really liked the story on this one)
Algus - Alchemist (same again, the story hooked me, and the class intrigues me)

Plus we already have French wolf and Wander weir.

I'm sorry I couldn't give more of you a run, but 6 is aobut what I can balance encounters for and it keeps the post rate up.

Also, I don't really do alternates. If someone drops out I'll re recruit with a new thread rather than promise a position to someone, it's much faster since months may go by efore that happens and some of teh folks may well have gone by then as well.

Thanks for the great submissions, looking forward to gaming with you.

Cheers

PS OOc thread is linked a few posts above.

Congrats, everyone! Dax, that'll make two games we're in together.

Skäne “Countless” Ingvârssonn appears to be the archetypal Viking; Tall and brawny who bears a number of scars, wears his wild reddish-blond hair braided and sports an unkempt beard which frames his icy blue eyes.

However there is more to this Ulfen than meets the eye: As one of the many bastard sons of Ingvâr Sharptunga - an infamous skald of the North, he possesses a measure of his late father’s talent in battle songs. Born and raised in the roughouse city of Bildt in the Land of The Linnorm Kings, Skäne's life to date have been a series of blood feuds, duels and misadventures all caused by his fathers questionable honour and reputation.

Now exiled from his homeland, Skäne now plies his trade with axe and voice wherever there is a cause to fight for, coin to hire him and a potential place in the sagas for himself...

Ach! Too late!

Ah well Skane will keep for another game... will be following this one with interested and envious eyes folks ;) - enjoy!

BD

Thanks for letting me submit Wrath. Appreciate the opportunity.

@Warforged: Hey Congrats! At least you get to run some Tania again.

Thank you for the consideration. I hope you all have great adventures. I was impressed by the effort put into the entries.

Javell:
Too bad you didn't make it. Would you keep an eye on the SDF Kingmaker OOC thread? I replace Scipion as DM for a spell and I've asked them if they would like a fifth player. I'll write back here but if you keep an eye over the weekend, may be you'll be able to jump in soon enough.
Let me know.

Liberty's Edge

Have fun all! It sounds like it will be a great game! Thanks for the chance to apply Wrath.

Warforged:
Heck yeah! I'll definitely keep an eye out on your OOC thread that way you don't have to keep coming back to this one. Thanks for the consideration!
