Magicks Background
Originally from Magnimar, the Good Joshiah had been forced out of the city when he helped the wrong man, a Scarzni criminal. He never knew who exactly the man was, but the criminal had made enemies of the Scarzni family and two weeks later the man was found dead in the river and the Vigileon's received a message telling Joshiah that he should leave. He took the matter to the authorities and their advice was to leave. He did taking his family west to Sandpoint, the home of his cousin, deputy Hemlock. They found a small shack on the outskirts of the town, and kept it clean despite rarely staying home for long. Tabithe and her husband have invested many years teaching their children to understand the ways of honour, truth, fairness and justice. Most of the teaching took place on the travels around the villages and homesteads of Sandpoint as they worked as preachers and healers. Joshiah was a fine apothecary so their wagon was always welcomed with open arms by the outlying communities. They would stay, help the locals and tend their all-shrines providing a service for all faiths that Iomedae approved of. Respected for their work, though not particularly well liked or befriended thanks to the humourless and spartan beliefs in duty and hard work, the Vigileons made no bones about the tithes they paid to the Church in Magnimar. In return for this payment, the Circle of Iomedae and the Sword Knight Captain Crowel Iradock, agreed to take True in as a squire and prospective Knight candidate. So on her tenth birthday, she made the journey back to the city and took up residence in the old church to Aroden. Over the next seven years, True slowly came to love and believe deeply in her faith, its tenets and code made life much simpler. The days were ordered and organised into periods of early exercise, morning cleaning, afternoon teachings and care for the poor followed by evening prayers and sleep. True fitted in well, meaning she did not have to think too hard for herself, not her speciality. Gradually the Circle of Sword Knights and their teachers realised that her strength and skill at arms far outstripped her abilities in other directions, she could make a fine knight- brave, heroic even and committed to the faith of Iomedae. True dutifully hid the pain of missing her family and childhood at home so that the letters to her parents and occasional presents to her brother and sister seemed all the more austere and practical. In return, Joshiah and Tabithe wrote of their pride in her work and the hope she would eventually make good as a knight. Then five years ago, she received a shocking letter from her mother, her father had been murdered in Sandpoint one night. Cut up and left by a man dubbed the Chopper. The seventeen year old girl returned home on a leave of absence at the insistence of her mentor, Captain Iradock, told to help bring the Chopper to justice. True tried to comfort her mother and siblings but she found that much harder to deal with than helping her cousin, deputy Hemlock. When the Copper was captured, tried and convicted, Hemlock became a hero of Sandpoint. True sat through every day of the trial and she approved of the just result, the end of the crazed artisan. The whole affair left True far more grown up and serious. When her family showed signs of recovery, her mother taking up the reins of healing and preaching from the family wagon, then the Squire of Iomedae returned to Magnimar. Her battle prowess gradually took over her days, she was tested as part of the city guard and the reports showed True understood law and Justice well but had much less regard for fairness. If a rich man or a beggar transgressed it made little difference to her. This manifested as a lack of certain priestly magicks, that only the blessed of Iomedae received, perhaps showing that she was a righteous warrior first and foremost. A week or two back, True was ordained as a holy warrior, the least sword knight of the Circle of Magnimar, and that day was marked by a field of sword-shaped shooting stars crossing over during her lonely night's vigil. Even her captain Iradock felt the signs were good for True's future as a knight. During the vigil, True dreamt of the holy sword, Vermillion, and that her goddess hoped she would find it. On the following morn, a bright and shiny day dawned with a new Sword Knight ordained and True Vigileon took the title of Myrmidon or soldier of the knights. Her first work was decided by the perplexing lack of news and tithe from Sandpoint. Captain Iradock ordered her to take a Leave of Absence of six weeks, keep him informed of her sojourn and act with honour and for the glory of her Circle meanwhile. He also introduced True to a travelling companion, a dwarf of Torag called Feldspar Flamebeard, who was on his own personal mission to Sandpoint. The Eleven Acts Of Iomedae
