So according to the book, I get access to a domain. So I chose Animal Domain so I can talk to animals.
At level 4 do I get a second animal companion?
You only gain access to either a domain or an animal companion. Taking any domain other than animal means you don't have any companion. Taking animal domain means you get one but at -3 level. Taking the full companion means you don't get any domain.

If having multiple creatures act on your turn won't infuriate the DM and other players there are a couple of options which might be more effective than trained dogs (who would likely get blown to bits the first time a bad guy cast Fireball).
#1 - Leadership feat - With the DM's permission and the group's sufferance, the Leadership feat could give you a canine buddy of some sort, maybe even a hound archon who digs hanging out in dog form. You'd also get a bunch of 1st level followers. Usually they'd be from PC races, but since they're mostly useless I could see a generous DM letting them be dogs.
#2 - Wolf Shaman (from APG) - You wouldn't exactly get a pack of dogs/wolves from this, but you'd be able to summon some as a standard action, and you could apply templates to make them better. If you're going this route then Augment Summoning seems like a good idea.

Well I'll see if he will let me do the leadership route, cause he isn't letting me use the APG. (Otherwise I would totally be a wolf shaman.)
Unfortunately everyone at our table is pretty new, so he wants to make sure we go through the core before we go advance.
I have been doing everything I can to proclaim my characters love of all things canine.. Including attempting to punt cats out of my way, and digging holes without the use of a shovel.
