DM Ronin's Legacy of Fire Thread

Alright everyone! Welcome to our Legacy of Fire PBP Campaign. For those of you who don't already have a copy of Legacy of Fire Players Guide, you can email me at xanatos_grey@yahoo.com and I can get you a PDF copy. I don't expect you to go out and buy it just for a single campaign. Following is a list of how character creation will go and some of the rules for the game itself. In this thread, I'll let you guys talk amongst yourselves throughout character creation and figure out how you want to go about things. This will also be the thread where you can discuss in-game events OOC and decide from there how you want to continue through the campaign.

Character Creation
» All characters start at 1st level
» 32 point buy for stats
» Starting gold = Max for class
» Books to use = PFRPG Core Books, Advanced Players Guide, Bestiary
» Feats = Whatever’s in the books
» Max HP at first level.
» If you want something that goes against these “rules,” ask.

Rules of Play
» At minimum, please post once per day during weekdays and at least one time on a weekend (I realize people have lives.)
» If you must make OOC comments in game, make sure you designate them as such. We'll work on a given set for posting once we're good to go.
» For spellcasters: Each day in-game, please mark on your profile which spells you have chosen to memorize.
» I will not give out XP. I will keep track of your XP and I will simply tell you when you level up.

Email sent. Two other character creation questions, will you allow character traits? If so, two? and after 1st level, will HP's be rolled or half of the hit die?

Tordek

Would you allow the varisian tattoo feat?

Sorry about that. Yes, Character traits are allowed. You may have three traits, and one of them must be a Campaign Trait from the Legacy of Fire Players Guide. The others are your choosing.

Havoc, as for the Varisian Tattoo feat, I don't have a problem with you taking it as long as you specify in your background how it is you managed to get ahold of the tattoo.

Alright somewhere along the way I made a mistake and missed a few of the fine print details in the campaign. I knew you'd be facing quite a few Fire Resistant monsters, but looking closer, quite a few of them are also immune to fire. Between my job and newborn son, I must have been facing serious sleep deprivation and failed to note some of the most important aspects of the campaign. I realize that Havoc was wanting to play a Fire Elemental Wizard and because of the campaign stipulations I am leaving it up to the group to decide whether we continue to run it as is or if you would prefer to run a different adventure path. Sorry again for my mistake.

I've got Talahel retooled pretty well in into Katapesh, but if Havoc has his heart set on a fire elemental wizard, I'm fine with changing. Otherwise, perhaps another type of wizard could be played (maybe one that hates trolls, hint hint). I would like to know soon before I put much more work into Talahel's backstory.

I have Talahel tentatively built pending the final determination of which AP we are running. All I have left is his back story.

For DM Ronin, My traits:

Campaign Trait - Reclaiming your roots - chose MW Cold Iron Longsword
Armor Expert
Vagabond Child (Urban) - Disable device

For the remainder of the group, I can adjust my story to enhance connections between our characters if need be.

I don't want to mess up any one else's character designs so I'm going to come up with a different plan.

Dragonborn3 here.

Since this is a Legacy of Fire game, I'd like to submit Azten, the magic-curious paladin! I believe the only thing I'd need to change to fit the creation rules are the number of traits he has. I either need to add one more or change my Extra Traits feat into something else...

Half Elven Witch/1

Congratulations on your newborn!

Okay, I'm not sure about the direction my character will take until I read the Player's guide, but I'd like to try an oracle. Will review the mysteries and curses while waiting.

So far that leaves a party of

Paladin
Ranger
Oracle

So we'd still need an arcane user and a rogue/skill monkey.

Elven Barbarian is my new choice.

Talahel Zstelian is complete, with back story, and ready for review.

Thank you.

I reviewed your character and as much as I tried to DM peruse my way through it, I couldn't find any fault in it. Hero Lab, a program I use as well, is always very thorough when it comes to making sure I can't nitpick at my players. The only thing I have to ask about that I'm sure is probably already covered and I'm just not seeing is whether or not you chose a Favored Class. If so, please annotate on your sheet which one it was in because if you chose Ranger, I'm probably missing either the extra Skill Point or the extra Hit Point that you chose. Just give your skills another lookover because my Hero Lab build of your character is showing your skills slightly different. That being said, I commend you on pushing the Reclaiming your Roots trait to its limits of 330 GP and on being extremely thorough. Lol.

Thanks for the review. I double checked. Yes, I selected Ranger as my favored class. I chose the extra hit point so my hits points are 10 + 1 (con) + 1 (extra hp) = 12

I always push a limit, just not always in a power gamer way. Let me tell you about my Dwarven Oracle...

I'm looking forward to the adventure.

Half Elven Witch/1

Well, I've been having a very difficult time settling on oracular mysteries. I was looking for something along the lines of illusion/mystery, but there don't seem to be any.

But I have this idea for an elven Nightstalker alchemist/poison merchant with a crisis of conscience, so I think I'll go with that instead.

Lot of elves in this group it seems.

Yes we do - so far we have:

Talahel (Tordek) - Half-Elf Ranger
(Havoc) - Elven Barbarian
Azten (Dragonborn3) - half elf Paladin
(Alexi) - elven Nightstalker alchemist/poison merchant

Still need to hear from Havoc's fiance and Jelloarm who indicated that he was interested in a Wizard

I like the Poison Merchant flavor. Perfect for Katapesh.

Male Elven Alchemist/1

Okay, here's a character sheet in progress for the poison merchant. Open for suggestions and criticism. Seeking advice about bonus languages to learn.

A Paladin and a Poison Merchant.. things could get interesting.

Instead of choosing a different feat(to replace Extra Traits), I took Flame of the Dawnflower, which can be found in the APG and my profile.

Ronin, how much would a book about the creation and use of magic items cost? Think of it like a "For Dummies" book.

I'll get to work on a backstory, but other than that I should be good to go.

P.S: Favored Classes are Paladin and Cleric

Shadow Lodge

Male Husband/10 Dad/10 Gamer/5 RPGer/2

Gnolls seem to be common in Katapesh and they do come to town so you may have learned how to speak Gnoll. Although, I'm not sure how many gnolls will be buying poisons so you may not have any direct contact with them. Also, I suspect any outsider languages may be helpful in the future.

Male Elven Alchemist/1

Gnoll is on my list to learn, but I don't think I have access to any outsider languages except Celestial, which I'm not really sure makes sense for my concept. I'm not familiar with Golarion, so I'm not really aware of any local languages that I could learn beyond what's in the Core book.

I think a paladin would have an interesting time in Katapesh to begin with. Variel's trade is perfectly legal. Might be fun to debate the point in Celestial, come to think of it.

Shadow Lodge

Male Husband/10 Dad/10 Gamer/5 RPGer/2

Looking in the campaign setting...

The main languages in Katapesh are Kelish, Osiriani (which Talahel knows), Common, Tien, and Vudrani.

I hope this helps.

This does help, but now I need to know what Kelish, Osiriani, Tien, and Vudrani are. :)

Shadow Lodge

Male Husband/10 Dad/10 Gamer/5 RPGer/2

They are variations of Human Languages in Golarion. Below is some more description from the campaign setting.

Kelish derives from the tribal tongues of the Padishah Empire of Kelesh in the distant east.

Osiriani The most widespread language of Garund - modern Osiriani readers can decipher Ancient Osiriani.

Tien A more oriental flavored language from Tian.

Vudrani adapts words from Kelesh and Tien but its basis lies in a number of ancient tribal tongues from the Dhavala River basin (which I have no idea where its located.)

Sorry I can't provide any more info. Perhaps this Pathfinder Wiki link may provide more background info.

Male Elven Alchemist/1

I suspect that Ignan would be a good language to know, but I don't really think Variel would have access to it. Sounds like my bonus languages would be Celestial and Gnoll (options from race), Kelish, Tien, and Vudrani (due to profession).

Male Elven Alchemist/1

Azten, looking over your character sheet I found a couple things that really struck me as odd. First of all, a paladin as a Duskwalker agent? Do you know what they sell in the Nightstalls?

Secondly, a paladin with a wisdom of 8? with Cleric as your other favored class? You do realize that you won't be able to cast any divine spells at all, right?

Maybe you have a really good backstory or something, or maybe just a couple of strategic typos.

Alright, I'm back. Sorry about the wait everyone. Had some stuff going on. First things first:

Azten: Variel has pretty much hit the nail on the head. Not sure what you have planned for your paladin, but a Wisdom of 8 is probably not the best idea when it comes to a Paladin. Other than that, your character is looking good.

Variel: Nice touch on the background. I like the down and dirty bits you threw in there for your Duskwalker Agent trait. Currently nothing is jumping out at me with your character, so I'll just say good job. As for bonus languages, you're welcome to take whichever ones are available to your character - to include Ignan if you want.

Havoc: Same as above. I didn't notice anything vastly wrong with it, but I'll keep double-checking to make sure none of you are getting shorted on anything. Also, is your fiance still going to play? If so, let us know. If not, we'll look for a few replacements.

Seeing as how Jelloarm hasn't responded yet, I'll give him another 24 hours to post in this thread before dropping him and searching for a replacement. I have a few people on the waiting list already that would like in.

She is making an oracle of life, we have just been swamped with cleaning the house before her mom got home from a trip. Everything will be back to normal tomorrow. Also my history will be done tomorrow. And here's my barbarian for the most part, goods and items coming soon.

Male Elven Alchemist/1

Havoc, I'm glad that I switched to Alchemist, then, so your fiance can create her oracle.

Tordek, thank you for your help, especially for the link to the Pathfinder wiki. I have a better idea what's going on in the region now.

Ronin, okay, switched around my languages, again, subject to your approval. The bonus languages are Celestial, Draconic, Gnoll, Gnome (professional interest, since gnomes are enthusiastic alchemists) and Ignan (I'm trying to justify it as professional interest). My build really needs Weapon Finesse, but the Scorpion whip just adds so much to his image and flexibility in combat.

Also, do you anticipate any down time in the adventure? Variel has a craft to maintain, after all. I really wanted for him to start off with poisoned darts, but couldn't afford it. But you can 'create' poison using craft alchemy checks.

Even without down time, his perfect idea of treasure would be encountering local flora and fauna useful to him in his craft.

All in all, glad that people are liking the concept and flavor, and I look forward to chatting with our paladin.

Glad I could help. Looking forward to playing with you. Also,

Paladins keep out :p:
I hope there is some downtime, Talahel could use a little of your poison on his arrow tips. Just don't tell the Paladin.

Oh! Uh, Hi Azten. nothing going on here.

Okay, I changed Duskwalker Agent to Blade of Mercy. I honestly didn't think Duskwalker had anything to do with shady businesses. I didn't think it meant "shadt" notorious when I made Azten for the first LoF game.

Getting rid of Duskwalker brought my gold back down to 900, so I removed the Wand of Cure Light and the scroll of Delay Poison.

Stats are changed. Wisdom isn't as important for Paladins, but I'm going to mix in some Cleric before going into Holy Windicator, so I moved Charisma to 14 to bump Wisdom to 13.

I'm really looking forward to this, I have an image of a very battle hungry elf wielding weapons normally seen in the hands of clumsy human now being wielded with a feral grace by my elf.

Guys, I have some bad news. I'm not going to be able to run the game. Due to circumstances that are going on here at the homefront, I'll be MIA for awhile. What I'm going to try to do is find a new GM for you guys. Many apologies but this matter is of great importance.

DM Ronin since you are probably busy with your home issues, I went ahead and created a post looking for a new GM. Here it is. Hopefully, things work out for the best for you and we see each other on the boards again in the future.

To the other players, I hope we can keep this group together. Feel free to chime in as you see fit. Don't give up hope!

Yeah, I was really looking forward to playing with you guys

Jelloarm reporting in - I have a gnome wizard almost made, so if a GM does surface, don't count me out. I'll keep an eye out on here - the weekend was just a super busy time for me.

I've been thinking that I may be willing to take over the GM duty. I was going to buy the AP anyway eventually. If I do, I want to tweak things slightly. I'd prefer a 20 point buy and 2 traits. I think it will be too hard for me to adjust the encounters for our current epic characters.

Finally, I may add 2 or 3 more people from the wait list to start the game. I have found in my short history of PBP's that a few players drop out early in the process.

I have some experience with larger groups as I gm a Runelords game that started off with 6 people.

Let me know your thoughts.

I'm ok with that, if that's what you decide. It won't be to hard to downsize Tahl's scores.

Edit: going over Tahl's ability scores with a 20 point buy would you allow the wild elf sub-race from 3.5 otherwise Tahl can't do barbarian with the negative to con.

I'm fine with it too. I'll drop a trait and change the stats tomorrow.

If you do allow it I say a conversion that has it at +2 dexterity +2 wisdom -2 intelligence. That is if you are ok with it I can work around the loss in con but this seems much better especially, since he is a dessert dweller and a -2 constitution just seems off to me.

Which 3.5 book does it come from?

Monster Manual page 104. It starts as +2 dex -2 int I just think +2 wis would be the best additional +2.

How about if you let us keep the 32 point buy and don't adjust the traits for our epicness? :P At the least, perhaps wait until you have the AP and see what kind of encounters we're up against, and what our party consists of.

That's just nitpicking, though. I can drop stats if I have to. Better than losing out on playing.

I must have missed something, because I only had two traits already.

One other thought. Prefer to discuss it in email, though, if you don't mind.

I think yes - but I am waiting for some feedback from Torolf (Alexi) and jelloarm before making any changes. I don't want to presume too much.

I can't post from work so I will get back to you this evening.

Grand Lodge

20 points sounds good to me - but I may change my gnome from a wizard to a sorcerer, to double-up on charisma abilities and gnome abilities.
