Mission: To build a wannabe ruler-of-the-land

Parameters: Pathfinder core/APG 25 point buy

Which combination of class, skills and feats would you combine to make a wannabe ruler-of-the-land.

Or if you prefer, Hitlerbot v2.0

Things to consider:

- The character must be able to maintain power/rule rather than simply acquire it.

- The character cannot be assumed to have X item by Y level

Godwin's Law

We hit Hitler on the first line - deal with it, breath and let's go go go! :)

Convert Blackguard into pathfinder?
It's your best bet.

Act stereotypical, done.

I tought PF had a blackguard, in advanced players guide page 118, called the anti-paladin, altough I could be wrong.

My suggestion would the conversion of an Illithid who demands offerings of brains.

Or a very intelligent monkey with a hitler-moustache who has an aura of idiocy (functions same as touch of idiocy) that spreads around it and followers who then also emit that aura. Oh, and he is immune to it, very intelligent and flings poisonous poo on attackers.

On a more serious note, an enchanter-wizard with a puppet-government would also do the trick.

Do a halfling bard with specialization in Performance Oratory to mimic Hitler's distinctive speaking style, then give him Dazzling Display with slung rocks. He can use this to impress people with King David type feats of giant abuse or just beaning people who interrupt him at political rallies. Give him Iron Will for flavor as well as to make him extremely resistant to manipulation.

Eventually he'll need Leadership because you can't run a country by yourself.

The Anti-Paladin would be the worst possible person for this, as he's Chaotic Evil. He's a rabid dog that needs to be put down. It's why Devils fight Demons.

The Blackguard could be Lawful Evil (although I don't think it restricted to only this). Probably the best alignment to pick for this situation.

Honestly... if it weren't for the alignment issues, a Bard would be hideously good at this.
Otherwise, I'm going with an Enchanter Wizard. Smart, Lawful Evil allowed, and thus capable and willing to bend everyone to his will.

I like this.

Weapon Focus: Spiked Gauntlet + Dazzling Display = Much Fist Shaking.

..and the smaller race means it's easier to hide behind human-sized body guards!

For the consideration of all:

- A bard seems better suited for the role than a sorcerer/wizard/misc. I'd argue that Fascinate + Suggestion every round (with Extra Performance if needs) could really wreak havoc in the right (wrong?) hands - use small steps/requests to set BIG PLANS into action. Let's not forget, Suggestion lasts 1 hour/level.

- Alignment. Lawful Good for me wins hands down - while you could create the appropriate environmental conditions with Lawful Evil (desperation/fear etc) a Lawful Good ruler could have the support of Lawful Good types. Personally, I'd want Lawful Good friends watching my back/enforcing my rule.

{..or perhaps the best of both worlds - an evil Bard with Undetectable Alignment, equipped with an item that radiate a Good Alignment, posing as a Lawful Good ruler?}

- Religion. Perhaps a charismatic cleric is the answer, or at least a character with ties to a faith/faiths. As we know, religions can have immense power/influence of huge numbers of people and persons of power.

Only applies in a debate, this is advice. Of course this could always turn into a debate.

;-)

How about a LN ruler, who's surprisingly good at bureaucracy, and charms LG allies. Possibly with a constant Disguise Self spell up to prevent us from seeing he's a goblin.

Level 1 - Aristocrat...nothing like being of Noble blood to give you legitimacy. Everything thereafter is flexible :)

I would recommend an enchanter with a fondness for simulacrum clones. A small army of clone simulacrum enforcers will be absolutely obedient to you, can become a symbol of fear throughout the land, and can stand in as body doubles should someone try to assassinate you.

You can also create simulacrums of others in order to plant spies, or to replace key city representatives with loyal copies.

What's better than dominating a bunch of people? Multiplyng the number of people you can dominate by having your simulacrums use their spell slots for the dirty work.

Between the guardian monster simulacrums you can create, the body doubles, and the spies, you will be really difficult to take out of office.

Per "The Prince" it's better to be feared than loved. If they're too afraid of you to be near you, much less likely you'll be killed for your power.

Ok, so after absorbing (through the power of osmosis) your advice/opinions I trundled over to chat.dmtools.org and plucked their brains for some additional information..

So far we have this:

1 - A Bard with lots of friends in the right places who makes liberal use of Fascinate/Suggestion (oratory performance) to set big plans in motion through clever small steps. Suggestions lasts 1 hour/level and the Bard can try again next round if the target fails their save - and assuming it's not the kind of suggestion that's going to offend/anger the target they should be able to keep trying - tho it could be annoying..

Spoiler:
''Hey, why don't you sign the forms?''

''Hmm... nah.''

*SUGGESTION*

*Pleeeeease sign the forms* *.* <-- battering of eyelids

''Hmm... nah.''

*SUGGESTION*

*Preeeeetty Pleeeeease sign the forms.*

''Hmm... nah.''

*SUGGESTION*

*Aaaaaaah go on!*

''No.''

*SUGGESTION*

''Ah go on, go on, go on!''

''Look, no, ok?''

*SUGGESTION''

*Aaaah yer will!*'

''I will not. Go away.'

*SUGGESTION*

*Ok ok, how about a nice cup of tea?*

**Failed Save**''Oh all right...''

2 - A paladin -- saving people, healing the sick and wounded, being a general hero to the people nets you a lot of love. People do a lot for love! With some bard spies/eyes in the land and the support of the church a paladin could quickly rise to the top and stay there with minimal enforcement.

3 - A wizard. Ideally a Diviner specialist - average charisma. Hides behind a ring of charismatic representatives, uses spells to gather secrets and trades with information. Possible simulacrum madness as suggested by RavingDork at high levels.

More things to consider:

- Lawful Neutral could work well (as suggested by SmiloDan) ThornDJL7 presents a case for ruling with fear. Personally I feel that, while fear will help you rise to the top/achieve your goals quicker, maintaining a regime/keeping control through fear is less efficient than using love.

I reckon that fear tends to make the populace desperate, create martyrs and breed freedom fighters. A ruler who actually wins the hearts of his people can focus on other matters outside of enforcing his/her/misc rule.
