:eager to start play: :)
Me too!
Hopefully, we can get started tomorrow night or Tuesday morning, if all goes well with Jelloarm's and Chris' characters!
Arrrrgh, had my background finished and then had it eaten by the Paizo Messageboard Demons! I'm going to stat Grent first, then rewrite the background.
Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C, my friend. Learn it, live it, love it.

Derrian Thews |

Derrian Thews, Sable Company Marine, checking in. Neighbor's family were in last night and kept us out late. Just waking up.
Derrian Thews has a little bit of a problem with drugs. Gaedran supplied Derrian with some bad stuff which lead to Derrian almost dying. While he is still an addict, he wants to break the habit, and wants to get back at Lamm for what he has done.
Derrian is a good man in a bad situation.
Not thinking to clearly this morning. I'll fill in the background information, as well as a stat block ASAP, but didn't want to hold things up any more.

Full hit points at first? Is that just assumed?
Here's my character - a widowed blacksmith out for revenge and looking to come to peace with himself after his wife's death.
Anything I'm missing, beyond finishing up the background?
A few things... skills, feats, traits, equipment and making sure your Dex and Str are actually the right numbers (you have them listed as Str 18/Dex 20 in the side column, but Str 20/Dex 18 in the text box). I'm also a little confused - are you using your shield as your primary weapon and your kukri in your off-hand?
EDIT: No, wait, I see now, you've got a character sheet linked through. (headscratch) I think I would prefer to have everything listed on your profile, rather than having to click through to a second page, but that's not something that has to happen right away; we have time yet.
I should point out, though, that Widowed does something slightly different than what you have listed (see my post toward the first part of the thread). Of course, you have it right on your actual skill total, so maybe you already know that.

I will be ready!

the background stuff
errian was born in Korvosa to Chelish parents. His father was an accomplished swordsman in the Chelaxian military, while his mother kept up all the airs of a nobleman’s wife. For reasons unbeknownst to Derrian, his parents moved to Korvosa when his mother was with child. Derrian grew up in a modest home, being taught both the Chelaxian ways as well as those of Korvosa and the Varisans.
Derrian’s father, Andorjan Lucianus, was astrict man, who didn’t take to Derrian’s shenanigans. He instructed his son in the art of swordplay from a young age, and when the boy was of age, apprenticed him to the Sable Company Marines.
Derrian’s apprenticeship under the marines was not an easy one. His early teens were spent mucking hippogriff stalls, grooming the beasts and caring for their tack. After a few years, he started training in swordplay and armored maneuvers, and soon enough he was training to ride the beasts he took care of for so long. Recently, he has been allowed to bond with a hippogriff, a female named Aditi, and his father has bequeathed to him his family's ancestral sword, Zannadiavolo, in honor of his accomplishment.
Over the course of his apprenticeship, Derrian developed an addiction to Shiver. The man who supplies him with the drug is Gaedran Lamm. A month ago, the dose supplied by Lamm sent Derrian into a trip that landed him at death’s door. Even after the four weeks intervening, Derrian is not fully recovered from the experience. Lately, it has come to his attenting that more and more of the commoners are having similar experiences, and he is resolved to break his addiction, and confront Lamm.

Recently, he has been allowed to bond with a hippogriff, a female named Aditi, and his father has bequeathed to him his family's ancestral sword, Zannadiavolo, in honor of his accomplishment.
Okay, here's how we're going to handle the bond with your hippogriff. You will have to take the following feat (I'd suggest swapping it for Animal Affinity):
SABLE COMPANY MARINE
You graduated from the elite hippogriff-riding school of the Endrin Military Academy. Not only can you ride a hippogriff with great skill, but you may also bond with one.
Prerequisite: Ride 1 rank, hunter's bond or bonded mount class feature.
Benefit: You may add hippogriff to the list of animals with which you may bond. You gain a +2 bonus to ride checks made while riding your hippogriff mount. Whenever you are within 20 feet of your hippogriff, it gains +2 morale bonus on saving throws made against fear effects.
Here are the stats for your hippogriff companion:
HIPPOGRIFF
Starting Statistics: Size Large; Speed 50 ft.; AC +2 natural armor; Attack bite (1d6), 2 claws (1d4); Ability Scores Str 16, Dex 13, Con 15, Int 2, Wis 12, Cha 6; Special Qualities low-light vision, scent.7th-Level Advancement: Speed fly 100 ft (average); Attack bite (1d8); Ability Scores Str +2, Con +2; Special Qualities darkvision.

Okay, let's do this!
If anyone objects to the liberties I took in setting up the scene, please let me know and we can retcon as appropriate.

+1
Come on in, it's a party!!

For the player: I think you pretty much have to come in to be included in the game. I'm not sure that whomever invited us isn't waiting for all of us to be inside the house before showing themselves.
For the character: You've watched the house for a while and nothing more suspicious than a few folks entering has happened. You may even be able to see us moving about. Finally, the letter did make mention of others who share your dislike of Gaedrin Lamm. If you want to know what's going on, you have to come inside.

Grent Ungol |

Cutthroat 1: "Ok, there they all are. Now we go in and kill 'em?"
Cutthroat 2: "Whoah, hold on there. Who's that?"
Cutthroat 1: "Who's what?"
Cutthroat 2: "Over there, watching the house."
Cutthroat 1: "Behind the oak tree?"
Cutthroat 2: "Oak tree? There's no oak tree over there."
Cutthroat 1: "HOLY S*** THAT GUY'S HUGE!!"
Cutthroat 1 rolled a one on his perception check.

Derrian Thews |

so Grent's idea of stealth is leaning against the wall of the building across the street, out in the open, loudly saying "I AM NOT WATCHING THE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET!"
I should talk...I have botched so many stealth rolls in my roleplaying life....and it usually makes for GREAT fun...

Hey Folks, yesterday was a busy day. I will TRY to post more than once a day, but it won't always happen. This weekend, I will definitely be challenged to post, but will endeavor to check in in the morning, if at all possible.
I'll be on fall break this weekend--will try to post at least once daily, probably won't be any more frequent than that though.
Don't worry about it - once a day is plenty, and I do understand that real life comes first. Do me a favor though, if you can - go ahead and use the dice roller here to roll 1d9, just in case I need that roll before you get back.

Woo! Vague foreshadowing and prophecies of DOOOOOOOOM FTW!
(The best part: that was an actual Harrow reading, randomly shuffled cards and all, but I'm not sure I could have planned the last three cards better if I had tried.)
Okay. In addition to containing various hints about what is going on and what may yet be going on, Zellara's magic trick act actually has some solid mechanical consequences. For the duration of this chapter of the Adventure Path (i.e., while we remain in the "Edge of Anarchy" game thread - and yes, that's why I specified the current thread is for EoA only), each of you has three (3) Harrow Points, which may be spent in the following ways:
Dexterity Rerolls: By spending a Harrow Point, you may reroll any one Initiative check, Reflex save, attack roll modified by Dexterity (i.e., a ranged attack or an attack made with Weapon Finesse), or Dexterity-based Skill check. You must abide by the new result (but if you have Harrow Points remaining, you can spend them to reroll again). This may be done after the result of the roll is known.
Dodge Bonus: You can spend one Harrow Point to gain a +1 dodge bonus to your Armor Class for the duration of the current encounter. You can spend up to 3 Harrow Points this way during a given encounter, and their effects (as with any other dodge bonuses) stack.
Speed Increase: You can also spend a Harrow Point to increase your base speed by 10 feet for one encounter. You can only spend one Harrow Point this way per encounter, however.
Also, there will be other consequences related to the specific Harrow card each of you drew during the choosing. I'd appreciate it if you'd make a note of which card you acquired in your character sheets/profiles.
To make finding these rules easier, I'm going to stick them into my profile, so you will know where to look for them later.
