Environment Minis

Advice

Hi, I think that i have seen a thread addressing this before but I cant seem to dig it up.

I am looking to invest in some environment enhancing miniatures like treasure chests, barrels, tables, etc. The only mini's that I can find on ebay are individually sold and I am really looking for a good set. I am sure that there is one out there I just cant seem to find it. Can anyone recommend anything?

Thanks!

LEGOs.

If Legos won't do and you've got some money to spend try Dwarven Forge.

yeah, Dwarven forge is the most recognizable of companies that sell these, you can also check out some of the Warhammer Fantasy stuff... they may have a pack of environmental stuff (I've seen an environmental pack for 40K) and they have some interesting looking buildings

Shadow Lodge

You could check craft stores. I got some 1" diameter "pickle barrels" as well as some about 1/2 - 1/3 the size from Michaels. They also had 1" cubes and 1/2" cubes good for crates. They're unfinished wood for diarama/doll houses. You might be able to find chests with them

Craft stores and stores similar to Walmart are also a good place for some trees/bushes, grass, street paving. This time of year they're putting out stock for Christmas villages. A couple of years ago after Christmas I got some pine tree miniatures and 6" wide strips of grass.

Rocks are cheap, go outside, look around on the ground. ;)

I had made some chests using clay or model magic a while back if you're into making things for herself.

Grand Lodge

Check out some of the 3-d paper minis at a place like RPGNow.com. Easy to print and make your own, and they let you customize or have as many as you need.

Sovereign Court

Armorcast has everything you could ever need, and lots you never knew you needed until you see them.

Liberty's Edge

Hirstarts has molds that work well these are what I use for terrain, but I have mold #85 which makes some great chests, barrels, crates, buckets, kegs and more.

Cavern Accessory Mold

Plaster of Paris is pretty darn cheap and the mold has lasted through many uses and is still in great shape. A little paint and some spray coat and you are good to go.

reaper miniatures does a few if you are willing to paint. I second checking out the local craft store and seeing what will work. If you are interested in outdoor terrain you could check out a model train shop.

If you really want to get ambitious check out some issues of No Quarter Magazine by Privateer Press. They almost always have an article on creating terrain for their Warmachine and Hordes lines but lots of it is applicable to regular old rpgs.

+1.

Legos ftw. Quick customization with minifigs is nice, too. They're cheaper, but you have to have a better imagination, I guess. Personally, I love em. I'd still prefer a nice, painted cast-[metal] mini, but legos are great alternatives for a smaller budget.
