Ask A Succubus Journalist |
Dear PaizoCon UK attendees,
Posting as a journalist of CE inclinations (and I would like to commend here some UK journalists who have made some rather pathetic attempts to live up to Abyssal standards in recent years - still, it's the thought which counts) it would of course be utterly irresponsible and shamelessly chaotic of me NOT to post a reminder to check the PaizoCon UK website for any mentions of last minute plagues of locusts, volcanic eruptions, details of bloody stupid idiots who think it's funny to say 'Hastur' three times in a row...
So I won't post a reminder like that.
Yours,
Ask A Succubus Journalist.

Well, everyone looked to be having a good time at the balti house last night when I left. Packed upper room, Rob Silk and Richard Pett on good form, gamers going back to the buffet for seconds (and possibly thirds - at any rate the restaurant had to order more rice up from the kitchens down below) and some opening craziness involving kazoos, much to the initial bewilderment of some venture captains who had never apparently encountered the instrument before but were required at short notice to master it...

Saturday going well when I had to take my leave and make a mad dash for the station. Many thanks to Richard Pett for the awesome 'We be Goblins' game he ran earlier in a universe in which Jade Regent almost couldn't have happened (other goblins... room with box full of fireworks... sooo tempting a target for a goblin with an unused burning hands spell) and with a bugbear that wandered round randomly saying 'mnar'.
I think we must have mustered about ten tables for the Grand Melee, and the bodies of enemies and of Pathfinders were starting to rack up when I left as critical hits were cheered or produced those 'uh-oh' moments as players checked how many hit points their characters had left.
Lots of pictures, hopefully, from the balti and the Grand Melee for the website at some point when the excellent Mr. Rob Silk has the time to update it... :)

The Grand Melee was eventually won by the last group playing, by just a single point giving them 175!
Our table made it to the final round, but we jumped out after or healing batteries finally ran out. Posted a respectable mid table 120ish though...
All in all a great weekend!

Indeed, my Tier 10-11 lot took the Grand Melee by a single point from the plucky Tier 8-9 table nipping at their heels - all despite my best efforts to murder them all and take their stuff. Only finished half an hour over time, which I thought quite respectable for that level of play. I was expecting to run over by an hour or more.

Yeah, props to the 10-11s, what little I saw of the final round looked hideous, to the point I'm kind of glad I played my level 7 Magus on the 8-9 table instead of my 10 cleric with them :)
Awesome weekend, better than even the previous years, wonderful roleplay and wonderful company as always :).

Highlight of Sunday was watching the fast playing team who had to leave early..both parts of Shadow's Last Stand finished before our beloved VC had managed to finish DM'ing the first..
At times it looked like some people would finish before I even got to start DMing!
A big thank you to all of you who came along - as I've said, if you didn't then I'd just be sitting in a room talking to myself ;)
Seriously though, thank you all for making it a thoroughly enjoyable weekend. Thank you to everybody who ran a game; thank you to our guests Richard Pett, Diego and Auke; huge thanks to Charles Evans, Rob Silk and Pete Pollard for your behind the scenes help and everything you did at the weekend too and thanks to Paizo for allowing us to do this and run the Grand Melee!

I gather that the Grand Melee also saw one of those incidents which comes up in a game every once in a while where characters wearing necklaces of fireballs happen to be standing in close vicinity to one another and, umm..... :D
Yes, I believe that was the halfling suicide squad. I'm afraid that reports are that only 50% of their number were successful in their mission - the others survived their death or glory charge!

I missed it this year. Some pretty crappy personal stuff bit all my family in the neck.
But I hope you had a load of fun and the photos look great!
Snorter - I won't be at Lee's this week - yet more family medical issues have happened (not Tom this time, but hey, he might yet get worse... again).
It's all so bloody horrible.
Sorry. Should post to 'Things in life that suck' instead I suppose.

Welcome back on the boards.
Some people did ask after you (the critical fumble deck felt lonely).
Don't worry about tonight; we voted to put my game on hold for a few weeks, while Lee runs something of his own. And by God, I'm glad we did, since apart from preparing updated stats and figures for Paizocon, I've been painting the back room, and replacing the tiles that fell off the shower. Guuuuuuh.
I do think the 'Suck' thread may be helpful to you.

Whilst on the thread, could someone point me at the magic item, spell, special ability etc etc that is the beard that 1) Brought my Pre-Gen Alchemist back to life, and 2) Won an arm wrestle, to provide us with our second PA.....
If we're discussing Szallus's Mighty Taldan Beard (which was also the name of his Grand Melee team!), you're looking for the Strangling Hair spell, in Ultimate Magic.

We are indeed. Thank You!

I'm doing my best to arrange it..struggling against my wifes bosses and their stupid policy of determining her shifts 8 weeks in advance but not telling her till 4 weeks in advance which means I can't plan anything until she knows her duty hours

PaizoCon UK 2012 dates announced:
PaizoCon UK 2012 will run from 21-22 July with a pre-event Balti Night on Friday 20 July. So get those dates in your diary. Once again we will limit numbers for the comfort and sanity of players and GMs and we expect to sell out. Watch out for further announcements in the New Year.

Oh you cryptic tease, you! Depending on whether I get more sessions under my hat prior to the con, I might well throw my hat into the DM ring although I'll defer to those with seniority and act more as an emergency.
Doing First Steps online just now with some of the regulars, but I'm probably going to look into running regular weekend sessions in Fraserburgh and Peterhead. Both towns have venues that could easily cater to having full day sessions which could feasibly give me 4 sessions per month, at least.

Excellent. I like to make sure we have a number of stand-by GMs so that offer is much appreciated.

How long will the con last? Just asking, if it's feasible to catch a flight back to Aberdeen on Sunday? And when is the special - Saturday?
If it fits with the schedule of last year, there will be a 9-2 session and a 3-8 session, plus the special Saturday Evening.

Yep, that's probably how it will be.
Saturday: 9-2, 3-8, 8-12Sunday: 9-2, 3-8
But individual GMs may choose to have a shorter break in order to finish earlier on the Sunday if people have to be off.

CrazyHedgehog and I will be taking the bus down and back, so you could come along with us? It took us approximately 10 hours last time and there is a McDonalds open in Glasgow for food at the change over ;)
